Google Search-anyone else having problems?

I just had my computer "cleaned up" about 6 weeks ago. But this past week every time I type something in to do a google search, it brings up my options, but when I click on any of them I get directed to an ad site, not the site of the company listed.

Don't tell me I have another virus???

Linda, I just checked on a search on Google I made the other day and everything was fine.

The GW Computer Forum can be very helpful. They keep up on all the gliches and viruses. They have helped me on several occasions.

Sure sounds like a virus or something to me. Run a virus scan and see what happens.

You simply have to decide for yourself. I will tell you that these butterflies, though beautiful, are not rare or endangered. Their habitats are, however, which explains why everyone ends up with a batch when they plant parsley, dill, fennel, carrots, and other members of this plant family (Apiaceae/Umbelliferae). Another reason why we often end up with so darned many of them is that birds won't eat them, and I doubt that other predators will either. They taste awful, apparently. Parasitoids are about the only control. I believe that you have the right to enjoy your parsley. Personally, I would probably remove them from some of my plants while letting them have others. Next year, consider planting for the whole crowd. Or exclude them from your plants entirely by placing a cage around your plants (like a tomato cage), and covering it with tulle.

I'm adding to this thread because it seems like many folks who are posting comments here don't have a thorough background in the toxicity of a wide variety of home remodeling materials. Unless you buy your flooring (wood, bamboo, cork, etc.) from a well-known, long-running green housing material distributor, it is likely that your flooring is filled with toxic glues, sealers, and other chemicals that produce VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Bamboo in particular has a lot of glue because bamboo stalks are so thin (look at a bamboo cutting board to fully appreciate how much glue is needed). I have a MPH degree (Master of Public Health) and one of my areas of expertise is environmental health. I'm currently renovating a new condo apartment and for every material, I had to buy it from a specialty distributor that carefully vetted their product portfolio. The benefit of buying from green supply companies -- living in a healthy home. The challenge of purchasing green, healthy building materials -- cost. Green materials are more expensive. But, if you add up all the costs related to adverse health reactions and getting medical treatment to address them...then cheaper, less healthy building materials aren't so cheap, are they? A good place to start is Green Building Supply (based in Illinois, they have a great website), which ships all over the U.S. I bought cork flooring from them, they're great. Can't recommend them enough. They carry a wide array of building materials including safe paints, safe caulks and sealers, safe flooring, etc. If you want to get advice before a purchase, check out the website, 'My Chemical Free House.' I've been experiencing this issue (the need to refresh, don't recall seeing a question mark) on my iPad, not on my iPhone (both access the site via Safari). Nor have I been having this problem on my laptop (an HP running Google Chrome). i thought it was just my iPad having trouble with the site, but an iPad at a local Apple Store exhibited the same issue the other day.

I can't believe I am venturing to say anything in this area, but: I think it can also be a hidden "script" on the web page.
There is an add-on called "NoScript" that blocks them. But I stopped using it because I had to intervene on almost every page.

I know nothing, zip, nada about computers DH takes care of it all. I do know I donÂt like Google by its self. I use dogpile.com itÂs a combination of Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask and I usual can find anything I want pretty quickly.

Give it a try.

Thanks. I tried dogpile and got the same thing. I guess I'll have to call the computer people and let them know that whatever they did made my problem worse!

I'm running into the same thing on my computer. I thought I had pretty good protection on my computer and I somehow got this thing. I noodled around and found lots of recent talk about hiss exact problem. Gurus seemed to keep recommending the anti-malware I have linked below. I downloaded the free version, seemed to clear up most of the problem. I still have the problem...but only on the very first item in the list of whatever I've Googled. If I choose any other hit other than the first, I can get right to it. If I really want to choose the first hit, I have to select it, hit go back, select it again, and go back, until I get it. Sometimes I can get to the site after the second or third try.

I've got my computer guy working on it again now. [He thinks it happened as the result of clicking on an ad that came up on a website where malware was scripted onto what appeared to be a legitimate ad. Huh? Oh well...I don't remember clicking...but the kids might have. :( !!] If I find out anything else, I'll let you know! He's really good and was stumped by this! He's like a dog with a bone...he'll figure it out! Good luck! Hope this helped!

When it happened to me ( a few months ago ) my tech said he found a Root Kit Virus ( Win31/Alureon.H )... He cleaned up the virus, installed Malwarebytes, as well as Microsoft Security Essentials ( at my request ) and updated Internet Explorer to version 8... Two days later, when I ran another scan, Microsoft Security Essentials found a disabled file for the virus, in the Quarantine folder for Malwarebytes, and showed me where it was and told me to delete it.
