It took a while to understand and I also have a friend who announces new threats that FB has put upon our safety. I have not changed to messenger and know others have used it for awhile and wanted me to. Why? My bank credit card was used by an owner of a restaurant who had my receipt from the week before. The man wiped me out without swiping it or getting my signature. Yeah, I have gone after him. My bank investigators got him right away - when I notified them. It is disturbing in many ways. I caught him also swiping it twice and one of those swipes had no signature. It went thru my bank. Scary. Privacy is uncertain anywhere. Pay with cash some say. Need documentation for some things like overcharging. Thanks, Mary for the adblocker info. No, I didn't know I could do that. It is great news to know the site online I looked at shoes yesterday won't show up on FB the next day. I am a student to all of you and do listen. I come back here to just read. Also on FB there are come-ons within the postings. One yesterday shouted "Would you like to know more about your neighbor?" and a link. There were hundreds of people who responded with a resounding NO. FB lets us learn hard lessons on our own while counting the cash they made off of the deceitful people. I detest it but use it to keep up with friends - like everyone else. Next up I will ask u all how to get my "downloaded to PC" IOS pics and videos landing in the right direction and do I have the right software and other hard stuff to easily send them to FB and other places. I think most of you are Android users. But I will wait and let you digest the conundrums I have place on you so far.

It is permitted to sell fabric/yarn/thread, etc. on Etsy. It now costs .20 for each listing, but you could sell the fabric in lots of say, three pieces. Etsy gets a small percentage when you make a sale as does PayPal, but it really isn't a lot. Look at some examples of shops on Etsy selling fabric. I have linked to the results of a search on "quilting cotton fabrics." You do need to be able to upload images from a digital camera so buyers can see your fabrics. Houzz tracks you pretty nearly as much as facebook, you know. That's one of the main reasons so many old gardenwebbers didn't come over. And just like facebook, merely going to a page on the site even if you don't sign up gives you the tracking cookies. I suspect for some of you, you might have read a thread about things here rather on facebook. ETA And google does, too. Most of you may not realize that even if you don't do a google search for something, if you go to a page with any google feature embedded in it, like a page that uses google analytics, or has a google searchbox for the site itself, or has any youtube embedded content, even if you don't click on the google stuff, you get tracked by google ever after unless you remove the cookies. As a matter of fact, in many browsers, even if you don't actually go to a site like that and have removed the cookies, you will still get them back if you start to type a similar URL. You know the convenient way your browser remembers the URL and starts to autocomplete it for you? The site is being pre-loaded in the background even if you're actually going to a different site with a similar name. To avoid that, in safari on a mac, go to the preferences>privacy and turn on "Do not load the top hit in the background." Not sure where it is in chrome and safari. If you don't like this, use ghostery, delete your cookies after visiting sites, use any private browsing function available, and check out disconnect.me for your phone. However, if you are using Windows 10, as a system it tracks every move you make on its own and there's not much you can do about that. Earlier versions of windows give the option to turn things off.

My spouse works for our city's water department, and we live in the frozen tundra of New York. I have so many stories..... A few years ago, some people from a very warm climate were new residents here. They left around Christmas time to spend a few weeks in their home country. (India maybe?) It had been unseasonably warm here that season too. They turned the heat OFF in their home, I guess not realizing that it gets pretty freaking cold here in January. So while they were gone, the unseasonable warmth turned into the predictable subzero temps. And their home, now with no heat.....had hot water baseboard heating. Ooopsie. So the lines froze throughout the entire house. Then it would warm up, and the frozen pipes burst and started running. Then it would refreeze, and so the pipes would refreeze. Rinse and repeat. For six weeks. The house was build on a slope, with the walk-out basement in the back and downhill from there was a creek. So water ran out the back door of the basement, unchecked, for weeks. No one saw it. Inside the house, there were literally icicles 6 feet tall hanging from the ceilings that looks like stalactites throughout the entire house. The kitchen looked like something out of a Disney Frozen movie set. There were speed bumps of ice all over the floors. The house had to be gutted to the studs. Probably would have been cheaper to burn it down and start over.
