I am not 'into' such things, but just had the awful thought of what things will be like when they really do catch on. In the future you won't see folks walking around talking with something hanging on their ear, or driving and walking with a phone pasted to their ear...they will then be holding the device in front of them...YIKES!...even more dangerous for those that insist on using a cell phone when driving.

my guess is that it is still pretty new technology and many may be waiting for it to become the new in thing to have and for it to also improve in quality.
I am also not into any video chats, I do not want to see people in their various stages of dress or undress and they sure as heck do not want to see me LOL, but then I barely ever even use a cell phone anymore.
Droid is definitely making a big mark on the market and will be forcing the others to step it up! Great news for linux of course.

However, simply because it's abused by some does not take away its potential for great good! I'd think that all who are separated from loved ones( soldiers, business travelers, grandparents, etc) would be as excited about its advent as am I....but apparently not. And raven, I know you're joking and well aware the video function must be chosen for one to see you in your unmentionables:>) :>O

I lurk here a lot, trying to learn pic up some computer knowledge. I seldom ever have any beneficial input, as I still consider myself very computer challenged and 'real phone conversations' will always be 'in style' with me. I've always marched to the beat of a different drummer.

I am a very tech oriented person, not sure I would say a geeky guru LOL but the whole cell phone thing is just not something that excites me. If I was still doing a lot of work and traveling that would be different.
Now other new technology definitely grabs my attention, like the new pandigital novel ebook reader I just got, LOVE it, actually a mini pc tablet, love my netbook too.
When I say I use linux on a daily basis that is usually enough to get my geek stamp LOL

and I would darn sure hope there would be an option to NOT view I don't think anyone would get one with out that option.
I much prefer to actually speak to a person so just do not do texting period. Rheumatoid arthritis plays a part in that too.

For those with loved ones in the military or abroad I am sure they would be delighted with such an ability.

I really appreciate ravencajun and the help that has been give to me along with others. I do hope we will always have plain telephones and plain email for those who cannot or choose not to go ""high tech"". We should always be able to choose. I really do not want all my grandkids pictures on the internet/phone/viedo what ever. Too many people have access.

mariend, I know exactly what you mean about kids pics on the internet, but I think my email is pretty safe, and expect the phone to be, as well. With 3,000 miles separating us, I live for the videos my kids send of our babes, and do look forward to chat phones, for them alone. Please don't think I was disrespecting anyone's knowledge on here...most of what I wrote was tongue in cheek. In truth, I was a bit afraid to come here, and did expect everyone to be under 35 and perhaps a little impatient with a non- techs requests for help. And, I have no idea what raven means by :"... LOL no problem no worries I definitely did not hear any disrespect at all, the I use linux daily was just letting my geekiness show, I don't use windows much these days use linux OS instead, anytime I say that people always say oh yea she is a geek LOL.
I am way way past my 30's these days, man wish I could feel like I did back then again! This getting old is not fun.
You are welcome to hang around we have a wide variety here and all ages too, we all tend to learn from what happens, which is a good thing. My grandkids are several hundred miles from us too and seeing a video is nice.;-)

Just one more thing to drag the battery down. Daughter works for a cell phone company and she says she's had very few people show interest in this. With most of the cell phone companys going to do away with the unlimited data it may make it harder to push some of these extras.
