DH and I just upgraded to an iPhone, and I mean just, we've only had them since last Saturday lol. I had a razr and loved it, now I'm trying to get used to the iPhone...I thin I'm gonna like it Lucy... but I have a lot to learn before I'm totally in love with it. We do have AT&T so I can't tell you about other services.

The one thing I've learned is you don't need a laptop this sucker does it all. ;o) I hope that is some help Flamey but, I'm not sure I have enough info to give you somebody else will come along with better information for you I'm sure.

p.s. I know for sure my fingers are way too big for typing on my new phone. I make a bunch of mistakes and learned where that x backup thingy was really fast ;o)

Hubby and I upgraded too...to QWERTY's ..He got the LG Envy, I got the LG Voyager. We text all the time now and even use MSN chat on them with eachother..how cheesy is that?..LOL
If I could "rationalize" the extra internet fee..I'd hook that up too...I'd be in heaven then!

I was thinking all cell phones are service specific. Using the Motorolla RAZR as an example (I don't have one of these, just figured it was a familiar name), I think they make one version for use with Alltel (now Verizon of course), one for use with AT&T, one for T-Mobile and so on.

If that's the case, whatever phone you buy you should make sure it's for the service that you are using.

If I'm wrong and it's no longer that way, someone please tell me so, so I won't embarrass myself with incorrect statements about cell phones in other places.

I have Alltel now and love it I have a samsung phone The sound wasn't loud enough on the one before this. I'll have to look up the model you can take photos with this too it has a little gummy stick in it tht goes into the computer. haven't tried it yet.

I'll either be getting the new phone from Alltel online or at the Alltel store, so I know the new phone will work with the service.

Zipper, I hope you love your iPhone as much as everyone I know who has one, does. Give yourself a little time to learn it! And ask your friends to show you their tricks, if they have one. I can't get one, since I am not going to switch to AT&T.

Minnie, my phone is a Samsung, it's a great little camera phone and it's our home phone and our computer connection, it stays here with the dog-sitter when we go on vacation, etc. So I'd like Woody's phone to be a giant step better than the little piece of junk Motorola he has now, it was like the cheapest phone they had and since he was getting a cell phone reluctantly, he wanted to economize. It's a good phone, reception-wise, but it does NOTHING. You can't even download a ringtone into it, let along take a photo.

Terri, which LG do you prefer? I'll go look those up!

I love mine more than his..but..mines a touch screen on the face..so it takes some getting used to. Took me a few weeks. Although he LOVES his..LOL The Envy is a bit smaller than the Voyager.
Hmm I see that Alltel and Verizon have joined..so maybe they offer those phones as well?

I wanted a blackberry, but with Verizon they required you purchase the Blackberry service ontop of everything else we already paid. Just couldn't do it.

Okay I'm looking at a site that sells phones for Alltel.

I like the Scoop. I was looking at something close to the Motorola Hint when I was phone shopping.
If you text alot, or web surf..I'd get a phone with a Qwerty keyboard.
If you don't..then your choices are grander.
The Samsung Delve looks cool too.

Check on battery life. (each phone has different life spans) If you use it alot for texting, surfing or with a bluetooth, you'll want a longer battery life.

These are our 3rd LG's in 6 years(upgrade every 2). We are very happy with the LG product line.

If it is in the budget I absolutely love my blackberry. I really ever understood the 'crackberry' comments but once I got it and found an 8 year old to teach me how to use it (Kidding!!), I don't know what I would do without it. It downloads all my email, from both business accounts, can surf the net, keeps track of appointments and meetings...I love it. The cost is high but it has saved me more than once so it's worth it.

I have Alltell too & one of their service guys told me if my contract was about to expire to re-new quickly to get better deal before Verizon officially took over.

Good tip, Suzi, thanks.... that is a great idea. I think if we go trade in a phone, that'll lock me in for another 2 years. Do you think Verizon will be a lot higher priced once they finalize the merge?

Don't know about higher.
We have Verizon.

I pay just over $110(including taxes and carp) a month for 3 phones sharing 700 minutes and unlimited Text. Oh and that includes my husbands company discount.
