I'd make the front porch deeper and the mudroom, too. I'd not have a separate area called 'Pantry', but would have a nice big closet in the back hall/mudroom area. It's just as close to the kitchen an the space can be utilized as you need it -- not all 'foodstuffs'. (My back hall closet holds coats, drying laundry, the central vac hose, mops, all the junk from Costco, etc.) You might have a kitchen desk in the current 'Pantry' area -- and open the Foyer more.

Interested to hear the comments about your kitchen because ours is set up exactly the same. How long is the run where your rangetop and ovens are? We only have 8 feet and I am not sure we have room for all that (haven't seen a KD yet).

Thanks, Chisue. We are planning some type of cubby/cabinets in the mudroom. Kids are out of the house and we like to cook/entertain, so we wanted a pantry to store all the toys and goodies.

anthensmomof3 - great minds think alike, no? The kitchen is 13.5' wall to wall and that run is also 8 ft for us. That leaves 15" of landing between the oven and cooktop and on the other side of the cooktop. While not luxurious, I think with the additional counter to the corner (and around the corner) and the island, that should work.

Anybody think that is not enough space?

OK, I'm just saying that you could store it all in a slightly larger 'mudroom' -- same distance from the kitchen -- and you'd have space off the kitchen for a desk or just a larger foyer.

Of course I like your master suite! It's very similar to ours, except we have a window in the toilet room. Our sinks back to the closets with recessed medicine cabinets over them (6" deep w/electrical outlets). Our carpenter built them for us.

You might want a place to sit inside your closets.

Good plan - but might be a bit short of kitchen cabinet space. Have you considered putting ceiling-hung cabinets over the island? Just make sure they are high enough off the countertop to keep sightlines open for folks standing across from each other around the island. I've seen some for glassware storage that are all glass doors all the way around, so you still get some interesting sightlines through the cabinets.

Why 2x6 interior walls around the pantry and the walk-in closets? Not needed there for sound-deadening. And finally, most successful plans with two walk-in closets ALWAYS have a larger one (for the wife - of course!)

I'm not sure an island prep sink is needed here. It just takes up room since all you have to do is turn around and you are at the main sink.

Nice layout. I'd keep the prep sink in the island., especially if you expect to have more than one person prepping at a time.
I think the front porch is deep enough, unless you expect to have people sitting out front. In my neighborhood, the front porch isn't used; the back is where people hang out.
Are you going to have a central vac? If so, then you won't need much for a broom closeet, just a couple of hooks to hold a broom and mop in the mudroom should suffice. If not, then a storage area for broom, mop, vac and cleaning supplies - behind a door - is good to have handy.
I'm not a fan of a computer in the kitchen. We have computers all over the house, but not in the kitchen, and the desk in the kitchen is a catchall for all sorts of junk.
As for walk-in closets, my DH has such a nice closet that all the construction workers were envious of him, and did a better job than they might have done because they thought that I was such a good wife to let him have such a great closet. ;-)

Chicago Bob - good eye for detail! We modified the original plan and converted that space from the mechanical room, which will now be in the basement.

Betaiota - we did change the prep sink location to the other side of the island.

Suero - no central vac, so your idea on brooms and vac storage is a good one. I'm with you on desks/computers in the kitchen.

where did you get your floor plan? Or is it custom?

suero -- I have very little junk on my kitchen desk because we have cabinets and a countertop in the back hall that takes most things. The shredder is there. The phone chargers are there. It's where the incoming/outgoing mail and library books go, along with the car keys.

I LOVE a big 'back hall'. (Not so crazy about one that's main function appears to be 'laundry'.)

Think about where you will store extra towels in your ensuite bath...you could probably create a small closet or even just a wall niche with shelving by cutting into the left side closet.

Also consider a cabinet depth refrigerator ... panels to match your cabinets is a nice finish...so it doesn't jut out as much.

Looks like a great floor plan overall...love the screened porch off the master but note that sliding doors will give you more room in the porch...they make some really nice ones now with the look of french doors.

I like the plan, but I would change the powder room door from a pocket door to a regular door.

Pocket doors don't seem to close as reassuringly and for a bathroom that is right in the middle of the house, that would really bother me.
