Help, please...back and forward buttons won't work

I had the PC unplugged due to upcoming bad weather. When I came back on, I had lost the back and forward buttons. They are there, of course, but greyed out. When I click on an open space, everything is checked except Norton antivirus and norton Security and the customize button. When I went in to customize, both the back and forward buttons were green, and I could not do anything with them. So I come to you to tell me what to do.

What operating system? What browser? You may consider a system restore to a point on the pc where things were working correctly.

Thanks.....it is sometimes there now, and sometimes not, which is puzzling. I have windows XP, SP2, Version 2002, IE. I would do a system restore, but lost that capability some time ago, which is also a problem!

Rustyj14 thanks for your input. I got under the tractor and followed the rod back to the pulley in the back and it seems to be operating normally. What I did find is that the brake pedal seems not to be coming back to normal position after depressed. In other words, if I pull back on the brake pedal with the heal of my foot and press the accelerator pedal the tractor moves forward and reverse. As soon as I let go of the brake pedal the belt loses just enough tension so that the unit won't go forward. Is there some mechanism that is supposed to be on the brake pedal to keep the tension on the belt. It almost seems like a tension spring fell off or something but I can't tell if there is supposed to be one.

This may not be a true touch-sensitive (capacitive) panel but rather a soft-touch button panel. Not unusual that these panels fail or have buttons that get stuck. Find the model number from the tag on your machine, look it up at SearsPartsDirect.com, PartsTap.com, RepairClinic,com, AppliancePartsPros.com, or other online sources to check cost of the part. Some are reasonable, some are more expensive depending on the design ... only way to know is research your specific model. Most are easy for a DIYer to change. A friend did this repair on his mother's KitchenAid unit couple years ago (I helped him find the part). I did two for another friend within the last year, one at his home and the other at one of his rental properties.

Thanks for helping me get this figured out. We are going to use 14 x 3-1/4 rectangular duct, which as you guys pointed out is the same area as 8 inch round. It's going to come across the ceiling and make a 90 degree turn (actually going to use 2 45s as fits easier and better air flow) so that it exits over the shorter window to the left that you see in the pictures above. It won't fit through the mess of existing plumbing that is between the two big windows and can't go over one of the bigger windows as they have exterior trim that extends 18" above the window. Glad I noticed that one! So, ceiling is going to drop to 9 feet, which puts it 3-1/2 or 4 inches above the top of the window molding, which is the same distance as all the upstairs windows in the house, so should look fine. I'm very relieved not to have the ceiling sitting right on the windows, seems like it would be claustrophobic. Now I'm just hoping that I'm still going to like the pendant lights I ordered with the lower ceiling. Luckily they are chain, so we can shorten them.

Candles won't work

Just got back with fresh batteries - not the problem. moonie, the battery terminals are clean, just flat metal pieces on the battery case lid. And yeah, I tried putting batteries both upside down and right side up and switching. ha. Trying to will the candles to work I guess. I'm headed to Pat Catans tomorrow. morz8 - dang. Had the same problem, but not as critical, with a lighted garland. I knew it couldn't last forever and when it burned out eventually I wrapped it in new lights. Those worked through one holiday season, last year only half of the light strand lit up. The timers were new last season? What a bummer. I'd call the company and complain, you never know they might do right by you. I was amazed my Christmas tree lit up tonight for the third year in a row. I talked about my Alpine tree before and how many years I've had it. And I swear the original lights that came on it worked for the first 15yrs! They don't make 'em like they used to. When I wrapped the tree up for storage last year, I must have left some of those pine scented wooden sticks on it or something because when you walk into the library the scent is overwhelming. ha.

Hey, I actually got system restore to work, which earlier today said it was unable to restore to the date selected, so tried a different date and that worked. Still having a bit of trouble with the back and forward buttons, but they seem to correct themselves eventually, so am hoping it won't develop into a problem.

Hi Phyllis,

Can you tell me what version of IE you are using, to find out, in your Browser menu, you know where it says -file Edit View, well click on the help one the click about IE, It will tell you the version you are using, I would hope you are at IE 7..

Oh,hey, I just now saw the latter postings on this thread. All is well in my world of back and forward buttons, and I do have superantispyware, so ran that....it caught a bunch of stuff, so thanks again.
