flashblock addon for firefox

i clicked on the "add flashblock to firefox" link but i then got a window that said "only install addons from authors you trust" and then it stated that the "author for flashblock was not verified".

is this addon safe to install? is anyone using it?

i'm tired of all the junk animation that dances around at many websites off to the side when i'm trying to read the content that i want to read. if i understand this addon it suppresses that.

Long Description

Flashblock is an extension for the Mozilla, Firefox, and Netscape browsers that takes a pessimistic approach to dealing with Macromedia Flash content on a webpage and blocks ALL Flash content from loading. It then leaves placeholders on the webpage that allow you to click to download and then view the Flash content.

Flashblock currently blocks the following content types:

* Macromedia Flash

* Macromedia Shockwave

* Macromedia Authorware

will this prevent me from watching youtube videos (i don't want to tell it that each time i want to watch a video that it is ok to display it.

Tom,

I've been using it for a couple of years with no problems. It puts a placeholder for every flash or shockwave and a simple mouse click will display whichever one you want to view. An example of what it looks like is at the link below. HTH.

that pretty much happens with most firefox add ons, the well known and highly used ones you can be assured will be fine since thousands of people use them. Any you find that are not listed on the firefox website you might question.

I use noscript, adblock and adblock filter set G, as well as IE tab (very, very rarely use it but it's handy when needed) and the FireFox Google toolbar. I have browster but sometimes it's annoying and I really have my doubts if it's any faster than loading a page. I never get flash ads, so there is no need for something like Remove it Permanently, although it's possible I have flash turned off. I also have Fasterfox. Is it? I have no idea. There are way, way too many add-ons for FireFox. I just use the bare minimum of extensions to make browsing less annoying.

with zone alarm you usually have the option to un check any of the add ons prior to the install. But it has been added to the hall of shame for now having a pre selected item in the install procedure. Installers Hall of Shame (Unwanted add-on) always a good place to check
