FireFox - How to keep a backup of the Scrapbook add-on?

It has bothered me for some time that I don't know exactly which files (in Documents and Settings>[user name]> Application data>Mozilla Firefox>Profile>Scrapbook) to save to a zip disk or DVD to guard against losing them in the event of a crash or my having to reinstall the OS--which may soon be necessary. I have saved "Backup" to a zip disk, but would I also need the Data file and/or something else?

there are programs like xmarks which sync and save your bookmarks/favorites I have no idea if there is a way to also back up the files for that add on.

Thanks, Ravencajun, I can see that I'll have to spend some time on the first site, and I'm glad to have the URL. If that doesn't give me an answer, I'll contact Gomita.

Right now, it looks as if I can export individual items from Bookmarks. I booted up this morning to find, individually displayed on my desktop, a hundred or more of them that I had been fiddling around with last night in export/import. However, I am hoping there is a way to do a backup on an external disk by just moving one folder, for example. Call me lazy, ha ha.

I have two external hard drives, both Western Digital. One has its own power source; the other is powered by USB. Both are 1 TB and I have never had a problem. There are photos and videos that were on some of them that I cannot replace:-( So, I made an account at an online file storage site to save my precious files to the cloud to help save from disc deterioration. As I was looking around to see what my options were for storing my sensitive data I came across this site and found it interesting. The discs are pricey (about ~$3 a disc) but they are known as the '1000 year disc.' It takes a special burner to burn them. The DVD Burner is like $40 at Best Buy so you can probably find it even cheaper somewhere else if you shop around. Not sure if there are any retail sellers for the M-Discs though. I didn't dig too deep trying to find anything. Check out the site because it is interesting. They say it is like burning the data into a rock, lol! Anyway, I found this a while back and thought I would share it with you real quick while I had the time:-) M-DISC, Write Once and Read Forever. You might feel like you're making a "permanent" backup of your files when you copy them onto a DVD or backup to a computer hard-drive, but the truth is these devices suffer from natural decay and degradation. Current DVD technology uses organic dyes and low laser power to make marks on the data layer of a standard recordable DVD. Over time, these marks become unreadable because organic dyes degrade when exposed to minimal levels of light, heat, and humidity. This means all the data you thought was safely stored could be lost because the discs you used have an average lifespan of only about 3 to 5 years! Why would you risk your data based on an average; hundreds of discs taken into account in that average were corrupt and unreadable after only a few months. With Millenniata, we don't subject you to the possibility of losing your data. When we say "Write Once and Read Forever", we mean it. Pam: Ah, if only it were! *History* I get by clicking on the cat icon with the clock, and the history menu drops down on the *left* side of the screen. You can see where this one is, and I get this menu by clicking on the thing like double parentheses next to the star in the address window. Besides, as I said, I have had History turned off for a long time and that side bar is empty. The items in this menu happen to be mostly things I have only visited once or twice and are by no means representative of my browsing history. If they were, it might be of some use. Owbist: Thanks. I wasn't looking for speed or accessibility. I just don't like having something whose method of working and management I don't know. It bothers me! It even bothers me that I don't know its name, so I am hampered in looking for a solution. Linesman: Your message just came in. That seemed to do the trick, and I was thinking Yippee! But, alas, the sites didn't stay deleted. They disappeared when I highlighted them and clicked Delete, but the minute I clicked on the "parentheses" mark that brings up that menu, there they all were again. Closing and reopening FF didn't make a speck of difference. I have found that clicking on the star in the URL window adds a new site. So half of the mystery is solved, but the half that most interests me is the deleting part! LOL I think I'm going to have to uninstall and reinstall FF, but even that may not help.

Dream-- the word is they have absolutely no money. They wanted the seller to pay for tests that were required for their loan, and when the seller refused things went south since they just don't have cash to pay for it themselves. Due to this I don't feel bad helping to 'kick them off' anyway, since honestly if you don't even have cash to pay for some inspection tests you really aren't in the position to be homeowners. I have a feeling not getting this house will likely save them from a foreclosure.

Jasdip, on Chrome you can do that. Click the "wrench" options button, then under Basics, On startup, select Reopen the pages that were open last. Opera allows this too. I can't understand why more people don't just use Opera. They're really missing out. I just updated to v4 of Firefox. Looks to me like they're trying to make it Internet Explorer Jr. Firefox's biggest problem is you need to add about 20 extensions to make it a practical browser and give it some basic features that are standard on other browsers. However there are a few cool extensions, or "add-ons" as they want to call them now but Chrome is rapidly getting them. I can't believe it's taken them this long for Firefox to finally make paste-and-go a part of the browser. Talk about behind the times. (Sigh) There is a control for the tabs so the last ones open will open upon restart. Session Manager allows you to do this. It took a while to go through all the add-ons to find which one. And with v4, many of the add-ons aren't compatible so it'll take a while to catch up. Another of Firefox's shortcomings. But for certain things it's an acceptable browser. But for use, Chrome has overtaken it for my use. And now the Firefox lovers are going to jump all over this! LOL

I totally understand! I have never used that add on so am not familiar with it. If you just backed up your bookmarks would that also take care of those? Are they included in your bookmarks or separate?

Bookmarks and Scrapbook are different. I can back up Bookmarks easily following the path I gave in my first post. There is a file for Bookmarks inside the next stop after Profiles, which is v20fqq3t.default. I forgot to mention that last one. There is also a folder for Scrapbook inside v20fqq3t.default, but that folder contains a number of files, including "Backup" and several RDF files that appear to be individual backups but are just a meaningless list of figures when I click them, as well as a folder for "Data." "Backup" itself is also full of lines like the following:

So I don't see how saving Backup would give me something to use in the event of a crash. Groan. Come to think of it, Roxio appears to insist on individual files rather than folders when I want to burn a disk, so maybe I'll have to export everything to the desktop and then laboriously transfer it to Roxio as a "project" and burn that. What gets me is that previously--maybe a long time ago--there was just one folder that I could transfer to a zip disk and from it open up FF again with all the scrapbook entries. Somewhere along the line that changed. I do find Scrapbook very useful because any Web page saved there is always there, along with its clickable links, even if the original page has been taken down.
