who are you with and who have you been with? do you happen to know who is available in your area?

It could be your isp connection that is dropping or it could be something in your settings that is dropping.
If it started happening right after the change it would seem like it might be the new isp, do you know if they have settings that only allow you to be online for a specific amount of time before it will disconnect you? I know some used to do that. I have not had dial up in so long I am probably not the best one to help you.

I think one place I would look is in your event viewer to see if you have any thing showing up there that might give a clue what is happening. Go to start, adminsitrative tools, event viewer, there you have 3 options click on each one individually and maximize the screen if you see any alerts or warnings you can double click on it to get an info box to tell you what is happening.

If you haven't changed any of the system failure settings, you should be able to see the error by looking in the Event Log. But a better long-term solution is to turn off the automatic reboot so you can actually see the error when it happensÂchances are it will tell you enough about itself to let you troubleshoot further. To change the recovery settings to disable automatic rebooting:

1.Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.Click the Advanced tab.
3.Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
4.Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
5.Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Now when you go to shut down and a fatal error occurs, you'll at least see it and it won't cause an automatic reboot. You still have to sort out what's causing the problem, paste the exact error in a post here..

I have windows vista and when it happens, and I finally get the computer back up, it says that my computer has recovered from an unexpected shut down.

I know about isp knocking you off after a peroid of time but this happens when I first log on. I log on and I'll be in the middle of opening my e-mail and another site and a blue screen comes up and than the whole system reboots.

I'm not good with computer problems but I'll go look and see what I can find that you mentioned.

Ok, I went and looked. It says audit failure. It says:

'Windows firewall was unable to notify user that it blocked an application from accepting incomming connections on the network."

Every time it happened it says that the event id is 5032 and it says it is other system events.

I don't really know what all of that means but it is on there quite a few times.

I had recently gotten the isp with my local phone co. They use yahoo mail. Do you think the problem could be with the yahoo instant messanger?

I hope someone can help me.

Sorry those instructions are for windows xp, please see the link and scroll to the Vista Instructions, I if I'm right you are experiencing a blue screen error.. We want to stop the computer from rebooting and read the error that will display on the screen..

I have no idea at all. It can happen at anytime I'm on here without notice. I can be on here for hours with no proplem at all or I can get on here and it boot me off a couple of times. It's only done it twice though cause I gave up after that. Anyone who is on dial-up knows what a pain in the who who that is.

zep, I tried to do that but there wasn't an advanced tab under properties so I didn't get anywhere there.

Since I've been on here this evening it happened when I first got on here but after it rebooted and I got back on, it's been fine, but I'd like to figure out if it is my computer or the isp. I have already canceled them but I am paid till the 24th so if I can't get it figured out before then, than maybe it will be fixed when they are gone. I can't wait to get rid of them.

See the link for envent id information Jane was right it seems to be a firewall issue, still see if you can follow the vista instructions in the Vista link I gave you that may tell us even more if we could produce a blue screen error..

ah ok good I was hoping we could find something in the event viewer logs.
When this happens or just prior to do you get any pop up from the firewall asking if you want to allow something to access the internet?
On this new ISP is there by any chance one of those programs that is supposed to increase/boost (accelerator) speed? if so disable that program.

do you have another firewall on your pc besides the windows vista firewall? do you have any type of security suite that might have a firewall included in it? if so only one should be running, if you do then you should go to the windows security center and turn off the windows firewall and only have the one in the security suite enabled.

I just happen to get off the phone with my out-of-state son. He is far more advanced than myself in computers as having supervised a data processing center of a large company in Chicago for several years.

Having said that, he by coincidence reported to me that his personal computer had contracted a virus over the weekend that Corporate Edition Norton caught. It displayed as you reported and was called something like BSOD which in itself is a common acronym for "blue screen of death". Perhaps your concern is similar. For now I would recommend a full virus and spyware scan until an alternative explanation is found.

I just wanted to give an update to my origional post. Since I have changed internet providers the problem has not happened even one time.
