GE profile double oven gas range vs. GE cafe double oven range
Comments (5)I went with the Profile double-oven gas: here are my reasons. I like the smaller-size top oven for daily use, and the lower oven will only be used on occasion, so I'm ok with its location. (There's no room for a wall oven in my tiny kitchen -- and I have no plans to tear out cabinets and rearrange.) I'm a good cook, and I honed my skills on low-end domestic ranges because that's what was available: I don't need a commercial range to cook what I like, and I'm too busy with other aspects of my life to change my cooking style now. I also prefer not to deal with "pro" level BTUS and the ventilation complications they might add. I also am not willing to give up self-cleaning ovens -- which puts many pro-style ranges out of contention. I liked the slide-in setup and the angled control-knob location on the Profile, so that, and the price advantage, led me to choose it over the Cafe. Re: price, I bought mine from a local dealer, and I got the price down a bit by asking them to meet the ajmadison.com price. They didn't quite get there, but I was willing to pay a little extra for local sales/delivery/service reliability. Everyone's situation is a little different, but I found that the Profile slide-in fits best with my kitchen and the way I use it....See MoreGE profile gas range boils everything
Comments (6)First thing I thought of -- and maybe the GE repair guy checked this --- but are you sure that GE or the dealer properly installed a propane conversion kit? Around here, the GE stoves arrive with natural gas fittings and they supply a kit for the conversion. Sometimes dealers install them, sometimes they just send you the kit in the box with the stove and expect you to diy or hire somebody to do it for you. Running propane though a natural gas burners is dangerous. Natural gas burners have larger orifices than propane burners and natural gas runs at lower pressure than propane. Running propane though a natural gas burner will give you way too much gas and too big a flame. Which seems to be what you are seeing. That means somebody may not have installed the conversion kit. That should have been the first thing the GE repair guy checked. But, these days, you never know who is going to overlook the obvious. Comments (6)The short answer - No The long answer....here's what I just posted on another thread about OTR MWs...in particular, item 3! They're too high for safe use unless you're well over 6' tall (I'd say closer to 6'6" or more) - you're removing hot food/fluids at a height that if it spills, it will spill on your face, arms, chest, etc. (Plus, you can't see inside to check the food b/c it's too high) They're located such that: If someone wants to use the MW while someone else is cooking, the cook must get out of the way at least 2x (once for putting the food in and again to take it out; if you need to stir or check the food, the cook needs to get out of the way a third or more times) If you have any food cooking on the range, you will be using the MW over the intense heat as well as things like splattering grease or clouds of steam from boiling liquids - all of it bathing your arms, hands, and face. Oh, and beware loose clothing if you use flame to cook - more than one person here has described a sweater or shirt catching fire when reaching up into an OTR MW with a gas range. They're lousy hoods - loud and inefficient. They don't cover the front burners so they're pretty useless for any cooking on the front burners. Even for the back burners, they don't work well. They're generally the most expensive MW out there! Post your layout - let the gurus here see what they can come up with - you may be pleasantly surprised at the results!...See MoreReview on GE Profile Electric Induction Range
Comments (9)Update on our range. I have had this for over 6 months. I’ve never gotten used to the steps on the induction cooktop. There really needs to be a step in between the current 2 and 3, 3 and 4 and maybe 4 and 5. Our bigger issue is that I have had trouble with the convection fan. After a period of time, it warps and begins to hit the side of the oven. I’ve had the fan replaced twice. Two of the service calls resulted in a new fan. The third service call resulted in the repair person hooking up the range to the computer, and telling me nothing was wrong. The reason this was an issue was because the problem is often intermittent and during this service call, the fan was playing nicely. I am glad I purchased an extended warranty, as I will probably have to use it....See Morecuffs054
