GE profile double oven gas range vs. GE cafe double oven range
Comments (5)I went with the Profile double-oven gas: here are my reasons. I like the smaller-size top oven for daily use, and the lower oven will only be used on occasion, so I'm ok with its location. (There's no room for a wall oven in my tiny kitchen -- and I have no plans to tear out cabinets and rearrange.) I'm a good cook, and I honed my skills on low-end domestic ranges because that's what was available: I don't need a commercial range to cook what I like, and I'm too busy with other aspects of my life to change my cooking style now. I also prefer not to deal with "pro" level BTUS and the ventilation complications they might add. I also am not willing to give up self-cleaning ovens -- which puts many pro-style ranges out of contention. I liked the slide-in setup and the angled control-knob location on the Profile, so that, and the price advantage, led me to choose it over the Cafe. Re: price, I bought mine from a local dealer, and I got the price down a bit by asking them to meet the ajmadison.com price. They didn't quite get there, but I was willing to pay a little extra for local sales/delivery/service reliability. Everyone's situation is a little different, but I found that the Profile slide-in fits best with my kitchen and the way I use it....See MoreQuestion for Owners of the GE Profile Induction Range
Comments (19)>>>"My name is Marcia btw not that it matters but with the line is the only way it would take it."And here I thought you were "Marc" from Iowa (IA). :>) Another thought on something thing that affect overbrowning, which is oven cycling. When temp drops below a certain point, the baking burner heats up until the temperature overshoots the set point. Then it shuts off until the temp falls low enough, at which point it comes back on again. On my late former stove, a GE Profile dual fuel, the swings were much wider during preheat. That is, the overshoot on the way up to a full preheat was much higher than after full preheating. On the way to a full preheat, the oven thermometers showed me that that the overshoot might be as much as 30F to 50F above and below the set point while the oven was preheating. However, after thirty or so minutes of preheating, the swing really settled down to around 20F or 30F (so, varying around 350F by going down to 340F or 335F and going up to about 360F). For at least the last decade, stoves have been well insulated so that many ovens hold heat pretty well once they have been fully preheated. On the subject of convection, here's a reason to consider trying out convection baking and roasting with your induction rnage. On my late GE Profile range, the temp settings tended to be very stable in a fully preheated oven when running convection. Assuming I had a relatively clean oven, of course. The third oven heating element (the one the rings the fan) helps maintain a set temp which the air flow distributes around the cavity. So, with the oven set to, say, 350F, and convection running, the oven thermometers showed me that a cookie sheet on the middle rack would stay within a few degrees of 350F. On my former GE Profile, I also found that preheating with convection bake took longer than preheating on standard bake, but the temperature was more stable when the pre-heat signal went off. So, you also might try that and see if makes any difference. This post was edited by JWVideo on Wed, Jun 19, 13 at 15:01...See MoreGE Profile Induction Range Oven Preheat Time
Comments (6)Oh, I have never believed those oven-beeps, LOL I know it takes 20 or 25 minutes for my ovens to preheat (depending on the set point, which is usually either 350 or 375) but I was wondering how much the hidden-element style adds to that timeframe (if at all, which logically I would think it does?). I mentioned the GE unit only because we are 90% sure that's the one we are going to choose, and wanted to know if others are seeing exceptionally long preheat times with it. Electricity is expensive in our area and so if it takes 45-60 minutes to preheat that particular oven to a true 350 degrees, that would give me pause ... especially if an alternative range would take less time to do the same thing....See MoreCafe “Modern” induction range vs Profile Induction range
Comments (18)@lynne3450 Which one did you ultimately get? If you go t the cafe, would you mind sharing your setup, I am curious as to how it looks in a non-showroom kitchen. I think the price difference is because of the material used and smaller production run. @katj461 There is a comprehensive thread on induction range if you search "induction range" that briefly talks about them. I've heard the kitchenaid takes 30 minutes to preheat because of the large oven size and has a weird control....See Moredan1888
