New Computer being considered

17 years ago

Back in May, our computer friends here helped me get my 2001 machine with Win 2K back into shape. However, I commented then, I was considering getting a new machine.

At first our son and his wife were going to build me one, as he had built this current one.

Then, they told us of a special Fry's is having. He's in Atlanta where such stores are available while we enjoy the wilds of North Florida.

Anyway, we discovered Fry's is offering this online as well. See the link below.

Here are specifications they list:

Acer Slimline PC featuring AMD Athlon X2 7450 Processor $349.99

Eligible for free Windows 7 Upgrade

FRYS.com #: 5940094

Specifications :

* Processor : AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core 7450 Processor (Operates at 2.4GHz : 512KB x 2 L2 cache)

* Operating System : Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1

* Chipset : NVIDIA® GeForce® 8200 Chipset

* Memory : 3072MB DDR2 Memory

* Graphics : Integrated NVIDIA® GeForce® 8200 Graphics

* Hard Drive : 320GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)

* Card Reader : Multi-in-One Digital Media Card Reader

* Modem : 56K ITU V.92 ready Fax/Modem (RJ-11 port)

* External Ports : 9 - USB 2.0 Ports (5 Front, 4 Rear), 1 - HDMIÂ Port,

* Key board and Mouse : Acer Keyboard and Mouse

Speakers : USB Speakers

Personally, I've had some thoughts about it's small size, but our son assures us it will meet our requirements nicely and probably for less money than building one. Then, I thought, look at the size of a lap-top.

I'm aware this is for the CPU, OS, keyboard, mouse, and speakers but no monitor.

I'd appreciate thoughts from the group, good, bad, and otherwise.

Many thanks,

Tom
