Bathroom pics and request for help/ideas for mirrors

We are just about to close on our new house (three weeks, yay!) and we need to find mirrors for our bathrooms. Our builder would have installed just the single piece of glass but we both don't really love that look so instead we are going to find something else. We are leaning towards a mirror in a frame, probably wood but not 100% committed to that idea - we just want the bathrooms to look finished.

I am posting pictures of three of our bathrooms each illustrating a different question I am dealing with. If it matters at all, this is not the final wall color. We will eventually paint each bathroom it's own color but for now we just had the builder do one color throughout. I would love to get your comments about any of these. And, if anyone wants to share pictures of mirror solutions in your bathrooms that would be fabulous!

Powder room downstairs. Here I am thinking of an oval shaped mirror but in this case a wood frame does not seem right. However, I am not sure what other style would look good. Wrought iron of some sort? This one is really stumping me

One of the secondary baths. Not much of the actual vanity is in this shot but the stain is a very dark espresso and everything else in the bathroom is very light. Here I am hesitant about a dark wood frame, but don't have any better ideas. If I do go that route, how careful should I be to match it to the vanity?

Master bath: Here I think we are leaning towards a wood framed mirror, and I assume it should match the vanity but I am really wondering what size mirror would look best? Should it take up the whole wall or should there be a border and if a border, how much?

Oi, for some reason this mirror thing is really making me stressed so thanks in advance for ideas!

What about a frameless mirror like at Pottery Barn? They have square or oval. The ones that tilt do have hardware,though and I only see chrome. I would definitely try to match your metal or just go with a frameless mirror flat against the wall.

When I was planning my new bathroom remodel to include my W/D, I really had some limitations. But I got it in there and love it. I got a Miele set because they are 24" deep and wide, or there abouts. I stacked mine and that might be an option, but I like side by side better myself. I incorporated a cabinet surround that included storage, open shelving, and a pull out ironing board. I love it. All very efficient for the most part. The stacking kit has a shelf that pulls out and is great for folding clothes. I use the vanity on the other side of the room to hold more folded clothes. I have a small valet rod that pulls out, mounted inside the middle cupboard and use it to hang a few shirts for ironing. If you go with a top loader and side by side installation go with a Speed Queen. SIMPLE to use for the girls and built like a tank, I hear. Over on the laundry forum they love their Speed Queens. Built like all machines used to be built. No nonsense cycles. No bells and whistles. If my 26 year old Maytag top loader that I have in the basement ever quits, I will replace it with a Speed Queen if I still need 2 washers. Another thing about washers on the second story. There could be a bouncy problem in the spin cycle. My Miele instructions said to place the set on a load bearing wall. You don't want the set in the middle of a joist span because it will act like a trampoline I hear. Front loaders have tremendous force when in the spin cycle something like 1100 or more RPM, whereas a top loader might be around 700 RPM. Don't quote those numbers please :) Outlets in my laundry cabinets allow me to store and use my iron above my ironing board pull out. I also have a false back to the cabinet, where I can pull apart all the shelving and have full access to the w/d shut off valves, electric plug ins, and the dryer venting for cleaning. Because my Miele dryer has side venting option, that is why I could fit it in a 24" depth space. Outlets in the medicine cabinet that I had made, and an outlet under my vanity to store my hair dryer for daily use. It is a little bit awkward, as the cord can hang up when I pull out the pullout that houses the dryer. They have systems that retract the cord I believe and might be tidier. I put LED strips in 2 cabinets with infrared on/off switches and I LOVE this feature. I have them in my vanity under the sink, and in my laundry cabinet. I also have a strip in my Medicine cabinet. On my go-to LED online source their infrared switches are expensive so I got them on sale for $16 each, still expensive but I knew I needed them for my plans. I ended up doing an extra LED install, with a plug in power, instead of hard wired by electrician, so I needed another switch. I did a search and there is an small auto LED light shop that sells the same switch for around $8.

I can't believe it - I have the exact same bathroom you do, and was just getting ready to post my ideas this morning to get some feedback! Please, any and everyone, I would love your ideas and comments, you would be helping two posters for the price of one! So...here are my ideas for dealing with my miniscule master bath: - Remove tub and replace with a walk-in shower with sliding glass doors. - Replace almond square tiles with white subway tiles. The tiles would go up 6 or 7 feet in the shower area, and then 42" up the wall in the remaining bathroom, with a chair rail on top. (You might be able to see the 42" line I drew on the wall to show where the tile would go up to) - Replace vanity with Kohler Memoirs 24" pedestal sink and install matching Memoirs toilet (round, not elongated as the bathroom is too small) - Remove medicine cabinet on the side wall and remove large mirror and replace large mirror with 31'x21' recessed medicine cabinet with sliding mirror doors (that is the piece of paper taped to the wall) - Install either sconce lighting or lighting over the mirror. - Install custom built-in open shelving behind the door for storage, from floor-to-ceiling (where my necklaces are hanging now). You might be able to see the line I drew on the wall that shows where the shelving would be. - Install hex tile or perhaps basketweave on the floor of the bathroom and shower. They would be ceramic as that seems to be the lowest maintenance option. Here are my questions: - Any opinions on whether to tile up 6-7" or all the way to the ceiling in the shower area? - Opinions on the medicine cabinet? I was also thinking of a large mirror on that wall with a shelf running the length under the mirror at the 42" tile mark on the walls. Ideas on shelving material? - Opinions overall? Natebear and snookums2 thanks to you both for commenting. I like the oval and that was always going to be the mirror, the one with the frame #1. Then I found that frame material and it looks lovely with my paint choices and the marble. The vanity will be painted a semi sheen light med gray. The walls are a light gray. Both will have blue undertones that really pick up the hints of blue in the finish on the frame. The sconces may have to go. I really like them but they are bigger than I thought they would look. I bought them online. The vanity will take up some of the depth to help offset the size of the sconces I think. The location of the sconces are set, but the style may have to change. The #s1 and 2 seem safe to me. #8 I am liking now, but it changes moment by moment! HElp! I will not commit to the mirror until the vanity is in in a week or 2. But I want to get some input with what I am thinking, and you guys always come through with great feedback.

3dogs, Yes, I do have your email! (Sorry to post and run, I was on the phone with a friend.) I LOVE both of those mirrors! Wow! The current mirror is 28" (w) x 34" (h), which is about as big as I'd like to go. What I like about the Metro. mirror is the simple lines and the shelf. The one that's there now, which the previous owner never hung, is a fancy carved piece that's impossible to keep clean, especially since it sits on the sink.

I think an oval mirror for the first pic. would be nice in either a finish to match your fixtures, or wood to match the vanity.

In the second pic., I think a beautiful beveled, frameless mirror would be pretty and a towel rack over the toilet area.

In the third, it appears you may have an oil-rubbed bronze finish? If so, I think a dark, metal-work mirror would look awesome, or a wide-framed mirror in the same color as the vanity.

In the end, you need to like whatever you choose!

How about a nice big round one! I posted a site this week that had ton's of great photo's you might go thru that and find something that catches your eye. Seems that's all I do now is scour pictures. You know some stores like Target and such have large mirrors, you could go and purchase a few different shapes and give em a test run and what ever you don't like just return.

For your powder room, I like the idea of an oval mirror framed in satin nickel to match your sconces and faucet.

For the other two, I vote for rectangular mirrors framed in wood that matches the vanities.

Lowe's and Target both have decent, reasonably priced options. I agree with the idea of buy several and return the ones you don't like once you try them on.

for the top one I'd do the brushed metal to match faucet. is there black in the counter top? if so you could also do black. finding one with black and the brushed metal would be super!

the middle one - i'd do a wood framed one to match the vanity. everything else seems light and the vanity seems hung out all by itself!

mstrbath - are you going to have a medicine cabinet?

going on that you just want a mirror, I'd again go wood to match vanity. it's a light room again and you have dark below and dark up at the lights - and a light wall - the dark frame will tie them together vertically and cause the mirror to not fade into the wall.

I'd take it about half way between the end of the light globe and the end of the wall. hopefully the fixture is centered on the wall.

In one bath that I recently redid -- I got great frameless mirrors with beveled edges from Lowes.

Not too expensive -- for now I like the look, and if I decide to get wooden framed ones in the future -- I am sure I'll find a way to reuse in the future. (actually, I've also thought of just building a frame from scratch around a plain mirror, then it'll be easier to match the cherry wood of the vanity -- but that's a later project!)

interesting that none of your BR are the same, I have been told by the builders etc that i need to keep them all the same cabinets and hardware and of course you can do what you want but i assumed they knew best.. HA go figure..
