Norton 360 provides a firewall so windows firewall should be turned off, Local Area Connection and Wireless Connection should be checked for those options to work, leave them as they are, on the laptop with 512 MB Ram, I would consider adding more ram Norton will need it, Norton Anti Virus are big programs and use plenty of ram, it is also a known fact Norton products do not run well on SOME machines if you should experience odd behavior and slowness and Norton is installed that is the first thing to consider as a problem area, when uninstalling Norton products always use the Norton removal tool that can be downloaded on line, Remember use only 1 Anti Virus, 1 Firewall, and 1 Anti Spyware program running at the same time. If you do not want to upgrade the Laptop with more ram, consider a free Anti Virus for that machine also available for download. I am not sure what you mean by Router coverage and you need not worry about it the router with proper settings will take care of it self..

Thanks zep for the fast reply...but I am aware of firewall conflicts (as mikie and Jane NY may vaguely remember)...and these aren't my computers, they are my bosses.

I want to know specifically if Norton 360 Version 2 covers 1394 connections...and if it does...should I turn off Windows coverage under the Advanced Tab. This is quite a slick program for Norton (compared to its previous offerings)and I'm not familiar with it.

I was a big supporter for 2GB of Ram for even little ol' XP, on this forum about a year ago. I understand about the 512...its not the best, but they aren't my computers and I work for a non-profit organization at United Way...and I doubt seriously if they are going to spring for more RAM...especially since the floods.

So, does anybody know if this program handles router connections or was Symantec advertizing something else on the flash promo during the install?

The 360-V2 disks were through a donation program that Norton participates in for non-profit participants.

When I went to support and did a search ... they told me to click on "Tasks & Settings" and then on 'Advanced something or other' and my menu had only "Tasks" or "Settings" and 'Advanced something or other' was nowhere to be found under either category. So I dunno.

Hey Sandy...did not mean to overlook you.

Its getting near quitting time, but - while having huge difficulty with the desktop (an AT&T support tool set-up request screwed up the first attempt) the flash player said something on the order of 'Helps secure router something or other signals'. "Helps" isn't quite enough...so the Windows Firewall Advanced 1394 coverage is remaining checked along with the other checked boxes on that menu.

I don't know if I made a mistake or not, but watching grass grow would be faster than the 'backup files' feature. The transfer for 1GB of files has been almost 2 hours.

I selected the 'turn off computer upon completion' button and am heading for home.

Tomorrow I will ask about another subject...my boss got a bill from an internet provider for dial-up service that she doesn't have...the company has a site ...but I'm not sure what to do. I don't know if its legitimate and/or if responding will only make things worse. No one around here has ever heard of this company.
