AVG Linkscanner question

on another post, someone mentioned the problem someone was having might be caused by a user disabling the Linkscanner.

Is it possible to do that without removing it? And would disabling it cause malfunctions or problems other than nagging to enable it again?

I hate that linkscanner and would really like to see it go away (without having to uninstall/reinstall)

That might have been my post. What I was referring to was if a user disables Link Scanner and/or the Automatic Update utility the AVG icon on the Notification/Taskbar icon turns grey and displays a red exclamation point. The disabling and the annoying icon have no effect on the remainder of the enabled features. There is no "nagging" to enable. Just an alert on the top of the interface when present which can be ignored.

How to disable the AVG add-on in my Internet Browser?

AVG 8.0 Free Edition contains a plugin for scanning of search results in Google, Yahoo and MSN search engines. This plugin (AVG SafeSearch) is designed for MS Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox Internet browsers. If you would like to disable it kindly proceed as follows:

1. Internet Explorer:

* Run Internet Explorer.
* Choose the Internet Options from the Tools menu.
* Switch on the Programs tab.
* Click on the Manage add-ons button.
* Select the AVG Safe Search add-on.
* Tick in the Disable option at the bottom of this window.
* Confirm changes by clicking on the OK button.
* Close Internet Explorer and run it again.

2. Mozilla Firefox:

* Run Mozilla Firefox.
* Choose the Add-ons option from the Tools menu.
* Select the AVG Safe Search add-on and click on the Disable button.
* Close Mozilla Firefox and run it again.

Note: AVG add-ons cannot be used with Mozilla Firefox 3 (beta) at the moment.

I had the same message, but reopened the AVG program and ran update again (10:28am EDT) and everything ran smoothly. If it was an AVG problem I think they fixed it.

You know what is interesting? I have Link Scanner disabled through the AVG application and the Internet Options shows it as enabled.

Wow! Is something really that easy for once?

I guess I'll get brave and give it a try--tomorrow.

Indeed it is a big mess Zep, I have seen articles where some webmasters are blocking users with AVG from their sites. I can not believe AVG did not foresee this problem and did not immediately take action to correct it.
