Just don't expect perfect results with any of them. You will still get spam sneaking through the filter into your inbox, and you will have some legitimate emails in the junk mail folder.

That was once true, but no longer. Now, not only do you need to be careful, but everybody who has your email address has to be careful. And there are bots that harvest domain names, then generate email addresses from them. I've got some domain names that I've never used for email (or anything else for that matter). All emails go to one bucket. I have to go in periodically and clear SPAM from these emails and I see an awful lot of email addresses that are being tried when I do that.

No software, no protocol and no activity is 100% effective. Helpful, but not absolute. And yes, address generators and miners are a spammer's best friend. However, focusing on the word "best" the adage is still absolutely true. Unfortunately users are still their own worst enemy, particularly newbies and the those with limited experience.

Through their zealousness to enjoy, and learn on the Internet they register on sites without proper research. They use forwards. They CC. They publish their e-mail address in plain view. They fill in the line on product registration cards. They register on-line for newsletters and free product coupons. And, all this are just examples.

We as users sit at home and pay our ISP money for the privilege to connect to the Internet. Site commerce is what drives the Internet. Even legitimate spam though annoying is perhaps useful. It is quite similar to the bulk mail we all get in our mailbox at home. A user's biggest concern is the malicious, false or unwanted, by subject, spam.

My personal remedy has been being security minded with my addresses, and multiple e-mail addresses for dedicated use.

I sometimes feel neglected. Yesterday I got no spam, none!

I have there email addresses. One for registrations and logins like here on GW, one for occasional business transactions and one for friends and family. Usually the one for registrations and logins gets at least a little spam. Yesterday, none.

Fortunately many on-line e-mail providers, and users' ISPs are using logic filters to stem the flow of spam. However, I don't see how it will never be totally stopped, just controlled.

I think I got a spam message on one of my five Hotmail accounts last Monday. I'm not real sure though of the day.

I cannot remember the last time I received a spam message on my ISP account.
