Fixing damage between tiled bathtub & wall

Any suggestions? I don't know what to do or where to look for answers. I had the ceramic tile redone in the bath surround. The old tile & backer board was removed and new cement board & ceramic tile installed where the old tile had been. Now the junction between the finished wall and the tiled walls need to be ...filled? ...patched? ...or what? I need to get the areas of the finished (painted) wall to meet up SMOOTHLY to the tiled parts so I can repaint that area and complete the job. I hope this makes sense and that someone can help me come up with an idea. I have been searching for other posts to see if anyone has discussed this before but I haven't found anything. Other people MUST have had this problem before. Thanks ahead of time for ANY advice you may have!

This just came up in another thread, too. That joint should have been placed UNDER the last tile, so that you wouldn't have this problem. I'm almost afraid of the answer, but let me ask you a question-- if you push in on the finished wall next to the tile, do you see it move independent of the tiled part?

Yes (if you could push it) it would move independent of the tiled parts. The old wall (tiled shower surround only) was cut out and replaced with new. I've been asking around and someone suggested I get a drywall person to 'smooth out' the wall above the tile to the ceiling and that person should be able to fill and smooth out the vertical side wall. At least the wall could then be repainted and appear smooth again.

However, I now have another problem. The new plumbing pipe that was installed inside the wall for the hot cold handles...doesn't stick out far enough to actually put the new handles on. I can't believe it! I am meeting a plumber there tomorrow to find out if he can make some type of ajustments to what is already there so I can use the handles that I bought.

I wonder how much this will cost. I already fired the first guy I had who made all these problems. and Paid a second guy to do the tile job. He wanted $450. I hope that wasn't too much, I just don't know and HAVE to get this thing done. It's the only bath.

The tub reglazer returned and fixed the problems using denatured alcohol. Whew! Lessons learned: (1) If you are considering a tub reglaze, be sure that the reglazer covers everything in the bathroom. My reglazer did not cover the light fixture or the top of the shower curtain rod (he covered the bottom) and the spray collected on these surfaces. (2) Check carefully the taped area where the tub meets the floor. My reglazer glazed the grout in places and the glaze line was uneven. The second reglazer had to use a razor blade and alcohol to clean up the line. (3) Be sure to get this done last in a remodel or new construction. I had the painter come after the reglaze thinking that the tub would be cured but my painter was nervous about scratching it and the surface is more delicate than before. He covered the tub with towels and then plywood, and was careful to step lightly on the tub during the painting process. If he was not that careful, the tub would have been damaged. I'll post a picture of the tub when I post pictures of the finished bathroom.

My eyes are closed and am holding my breath for you... NO... there is no possible way at this time for this to be fixed. If you hired a professional I would demand them to re-do it ALL... First off, the tub appears no not be level which if this tub was existing the tile setter should have installed a proper tiling flange at the bottom to prevent this from happening. Why are your walls "built up"??? It looks like they added another 1/2" to all sides for the tile... but why!!! Why is the shower arm still installed and now back in the wall? no, no, no, no, no!!!!! Did you select new fixtures or are you re-using the existing?

I'm convinced there are forces in the universe which have not yet been identified. For whatever reason, tubs seem to attract damage even when a builder goes to great lengths to prevent it. They get mysteriously damaged even when no trades are working in the bathroom--or even on the same end of a house. If you're thinking a future Twilight Zone episode....well, maybe. Minor damage can be repaired. Yours looks like a tub after destructive testing in a quality control lab on a day when the technician was especially ticked off. A replacement tub is certainly in order. Speaking of order--don't wait to ask them to replace it because tubs can be long lead time items.

Aftermarket tile flange on Victoria + Albert tub OR on cast iron tub?

Has anyone had any experience putting an aftermarket, field-installed tile flange on a Victoria + Albert limestone resin tub? Our situation is that back in 2008, we ignorantly had an old, cast iron, alcove tub put in, that does not have a flange on it, to be used as a tub/shower combo. The contractor told us that the tile setter would seal it so that it wouldn't be a problem. Unsurprisingly, now that I've learned more, it turns out that it was a problem and we ended up with significant water damage behind the wall and into our bedroom on the other side. We didn't have the resources at the time to redo the whole tub/shower, so we fixed the water damage as best we could from the other side and just put up a second shower curtain against the wall to keep water off it. Then, a couple of months ago, we had another leak from corroded plumbing, which led to more water damage, so we're finally looking at pulling out the whole thing to repair the damage and finally replace the tub with one that has a flange. I thought I wanted another cast iron tub, but I just got introduced to the Victoria + Albert limestone tubs, and I really like them. But they only have one alcove option with an integral flange, the Kaldera 2, and it's 60x32, whereas our space is 60x30. They do have a 60x30 Kaldera 1, and the costumer service person at Victoria + Albert told me it's not available with an integral flange, but that I could buy an aftermarket flange to put on it. She did not have any recommendation for what kind of aftermarket flange. I'm a little nervous about more water damage at this point and really don't want to put something else in that's going to end up being a problem again. Do any of you know if putting an aftermarket flange on the Kaldera 1 would really be a viable solution? And if so, what kind of flange we should look at? OR, could we just put an aftermarket tile flange on our existing cast iron tub? Would that be waterproof? Thank you!

In the other thread, I asked if the ends of the durock and sheetrock fall on a stud. This is why I was asking:

That's going to give you problems. But atleast for now, you can say the hell with it, and use the shower until you can afford to get someone in there to fix it for you.

As for your plumbing, that's a little trickier. I doubt that there's any other way, other than opening one side or the other, of the wall, to adjust the mixing valve out. What's on the other side of this wall? (so you don't have to tear out the tile)

I do have an access panel for the plumber to work in. I've already pulled one part of the tile project out and hired another sub to lay the tile properly. I sure hope that nothing else has to come down.
