Prayers for our pup.

Our dog Gretchen has been feeling under the weather the past few days...just not herself. I chalked it up to the oppresive heat we've been having.

Amy came home from work an hour ago and found her unresponsive so she called a neighbor kid to help lift her into her truck and they took her to the local pet ER (our vet is in Philly)

They are running test.

I am so proud of her that she had the presence of mind to see that Gretchen needed help ASAP and not wait till I got home.

I also want to give a shout out to FootBall Ed....the neighbor kid who is just about as strong as an ox and helped Amy lift her!!

I'll post more when I know more.

Gretch is our only pet now...Wendy passed 2 years ago next week, followed by Spice girl and Baby Blu....Timmie lived until we moved but heck she was 20 and was a fat happy cat all her life...if we lose Gretch it may be too much to bear right now.

Thanks

Susie and Family

Oh Susie, my heart hurts for you. My dog's recent passing is still fresh. Amy was very smart not to wait, and at least you know something is being done. I'll keep good thoughts and say a prayer.

And it's edible. At least for humans. I eat them occasionally: fairly mushy and bland, but something to do when walking around outside.

Runninginplace. Your post is RIGHT ON!!! It deals with the caregiver. Oakley, you can find a caregiver support group for yourself. Find one online with forums. Caregiver.org is one. Local hospitals have caregiver groups. Also, your county Office for the Aging or your state representative's office has contacts. All these posts are about DH, not YOU! You have to take care of yourself. Find people and info for what you are going through yourself, so you do not get sick, too. Do not make his illness yours. It takes a lot of practice to be able to do that. Yes, do some research and some chores. BUT...Make him be responsible for his illness. If you do it all, he will let you. Take care of you. Do something nice for yourself everyday, even if it's just sitting or listening to music. Keep up with your exercise. Eat right. Talk to friends and go out for fun. Do your hobbies for relaxation and creativity. Take off one day a week from all the research/doctors/worrying, etc. I have been caregiving a sick partner for 10 years. It's hard on the emotions, on your own stress levels, and on the relationship. Take care of yourself and allow (insist on) your DH to be responsible for himself in more ways. My best to you, Oakley. And thank you, Runninginplace, for all your fantastic words in support of the CAREGIVER.

Karen, You have a good heart. You Californians have enough sorrows to deal with wildfire wise, yet your heart goes out to fellow Americans thousands of miles away from you. I will join you and my fellow posters in prayer for the Hurricane Florence victims. Prayer changes outcomes. Moses

Susie, I hope all the best for your Gretchen. I know how hard it is to have a furry family member ill.

What a terrific person Amy is to immediately recognize the right thing to do. Kudos to her and your young neighbor.

Gretchen in is heaven with my mom.

They said she had some sort of infection which was causing her symptoms.
They offered surgery which alone may have killed her so we decided to do the humane thing.

I am just stunned with how fast this all was-my head is spinning.

I had her outside for a few minutes while I tended to some overgrown pots and she seemed ok. That was about 10 am.
Amy found her at 8 pm and she appeared to be having seizures and could not walk or lift her head.

This summer has been terrible!!

Rest in peace Gretchie Pooh!!

Oh Susie. (((Hugs))) I feel for you. There's still a hole in my heart from missing my dog, and hearing your news makes it fresh again. It's a hard thing to do, but you did what you felt best for Gretchen. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet pet.

Susie you have such a big heart full of so many people and fur babies that you love! And all these losses are the downside, but as my new SO says, it's still better to have loved . . .
