shower rod issues!

Hi. We redid our masterbath and used the sturdiest tension rod shower curtain that I could find. Unfortunately, if 2 or 3 people take showers in a row, the tiles get so moist that the rod slides down and off (with a crash!) Yesterday it happened as I was showering before work, my husband was shaving in there too. He reached over to help, hit the train shelf towel holder off the wall, knocking the towels off and the lovely glass q-tip holder (I shopped forever for) which shattered and spread glass shards everywhere. if i weren't so crabby about it and in a hurry, it would've been very funny.

Anyway, does anyone know of a foolproof shower rod? I'd like to avoid drilling into my new tiled walls, if possible. Any ideas??? thanks! we're desperate!

We used a tension rod while we were waiting for our permanent rod to arrive and I hated the thing. I have no qualms about drilling into the tile. It is up there forever so why do I care if there are holes there? They're covered by the rod mounts. I don't think you are going to get a tension rod to stay put no matter what. I also like having it mounted so I sling the occasional wet towel or clothes over it and not worry about it falling.

We re-did our guest bath and used a curved shower rod. It's great! Makes the shower feel much larger, less claustrophobic. I,too, worried about cutting into our new subway tile, but it turned out beautifully.

I bought an 'adjustable' curved shower rod, online. It's composed of 2 curved pieces, one slides inside the other. It's terrible - the diameters of the 2 pipes/rods are very different. There is enough room for the rod to move, and the rings don't slide over the junction. I'm guessing you can buy a solid piece, and cut it to fit. I doubt 43" will be a problem. Look for some curved shower rods online, and then research the manufacturers. Most will have details about installation, more than retailers' sites. Pick up the phone and call the manufacturer if you still have probs.

What do you mean by "a 48-inch shower?" I assume not 48 square, since that's a huge shower with no possible elbow room problem. We put in a shower that is about 48x32. We went with glass doors, not a curtain, but I can say that at 32 inches there is still no elbow room problem.

nosoccermon, that's a good deal. The guy who put the rod up says the tile cut like butter. Then he couldn't figure out why the screw anchors wouldn't go into the wall and realized he had hit a stud, on both sides. Yay! Before the rod was installed, while I was still all a-dither, I put the rings on it and hung a curtain so I could hold it up and gauge the correct height. I noticed yesterday that there are some scratches on the rod from putting the rings on ONCE. Ridiculous for a $40 from Moen. They really don't show unless you stand on the edge of the tub which, once the workers are gone, will be forbidden. Why do the ring/hook things have such sharp points anyway?

all the neo-angle showers i've seen have the head pointing towards the door hinge/door, which would fall right where it sounds like you'd put a curtain. maybe if you had only a rain head on the ceiling, or somehow curved a shower head to point towards a wall, it would work. maybe do a google image search?

Sorry sharon, do you mean shower curtain rod? That's what we were waitng on. We just ordered it from Moen and are quite happy with it. I didn't realize i couldn't just pick up a rod anywhere until the bathrm was almost done, hence the wait.

Others on this forum suggested Ginger's as a high end rod, but in the end we liked the Moen and it was a good price (about $50 I think).

Our shower curtain turned out to be a lovely quilted cotton that I found on sale in a bright yellow. I dyed it too match our Silver Sage paint - total cost about $25.

Thanks all! ok, so Budge1, are you telling me there are places to get shower curtain rods other than Home Depot/Lowes/BB&B?? I honestly never thought to look at real plumbing places. I bought what seemed the best available, but I think you and Lindaz are right and I need to just bite the bullet & screw it to the wall! so where should I look to buy this rod?

Oh, and I absolutely love the curved rod and had planned on using one, but our bathroom is really, really tiny and when we bought our new tub, it was wider than the one from 1969 and is now freakishly close to the toilet. It doesn't bother us, but even expanding the curtain out a little would mean it would just about touch us when we use the potty.

thanks for the input and any on-line shopping sites for the rod would be great.

But the cool thing about the curved rods is that when the curtain is open, it only sticks out half an inch or so further than on a straight rod.

But it makes a HUGE difference when you are in the shower, with it closed.

Course, some people keep the curtain closed pretty much all the time. If you do, kindly disregard.

We had exactly the same issue, bigger tub than original and pushed up close to the toilet. I know what everyone says about the curved rods but I just couldn't picture it in our tiny space.

I ordered our rod from the same place I ordered our toilet, tub, etc. Our HD and other home improvement places only had either cheap builder rods or curved ones.

Thanks budge, I did mean to say shower curtain rod. Using a regular rod with metal curtain rings hasn't worked very well for us as the rings scratch the rod, leading to unsightly rust! I'm looking for a really good quality, possibly stainless steel, rod so that I don't have this problem again. I'll check out the ginger and maybe the moen too.

Renovators supply has brass rods with good plating.

Oruboris, I do like to close the shower curtain every morning, so I don't think the curved rod would work, but thanks!

So I think I'll check out Renovators, Ginger (?), and Moen. Do you think I can buy online?
