Building a Home

Not sure if this is good news or bad!

The GC just told my DH that we should be able to close by the end of the month.

I am no where ready!!! I was thinking the end of September. GC told DH plumbers to finish up today; floors (stained concrete) will be done Monday, insulation on Wednesday and sheetrock the following Monday. Then it will be time to paint.

I haven't narrowed down my light fixtures or paint colors. I just don't see how it will be finished by the end of the month. There is still alot left to do. After painting, trim work, cabinets, lights and faucets insulation. Did I leave anything out?

WOW! You are about where we are, maybe a bit further ahead. I was guessing we would be in by mid October. If our GC told us we would be in by the end of this month I would feel the same as you! Happy and freaked out at the same time! LOL!

Good luck and try not to get to stressed out...easier said then done!!!

Wow..... I'd be totally shell shocked too.

We should be to your stage by beginning of Sept. If they told me we'd be done a few weeks later, I'd be totally blown away.

I'm impressed with your builder. If you are indeed done when he guesstimates, send him my way. :o) LOL!

Now, get off of GW and start shopping for lights.... just teasing. Have fun. Let us know how it all goes. :o)

Yea, that's kind of what I thought, and I don't really have time right now to sit down and research what his Rx is. I did move some soil away from the trunk of that one tree, and in the next couple weeks I'll "cage" the trunks just to be on the safe side in case it is varmit damage. He was really informative and a pleasure to talk to, don't mind spending money on that kind of treatment. I really would like another small red laceleaf for the particular spot the deadwood is in (it really is perfect for the design) but he suggested not planting another one there but said I could go the plant-it-in-a-decorative-pot route. I may to that and haul it in the garage over the winter. English Gardens has 50% their pottery this weekend, they've got some really nice pots (and BIG ones), so I'll see what I can come up with.

Sharon, two of the first recipes I used from this forum were your cheese spread and your Boursin, and I'm still using them five plus years later. Like Linda, I think the Blue had a lot to do with the great taste in your soup, and I think the Brie played a staring role too! Hmm, I have a head of cauliflower in the veggie drawer - maybe it will become soup a la Chase! It sounds yummy. Lee

OMG, we're supposed to close @ the end of this month, we're a lot further ahead than you guys are & I'm thinking,"There's no way we're gonna close @ the end of this month!" But it just may happen! I thought they were rushing to get ours done, but they really seem to be rushing to get yours done! Our builder has pretty much had everything & the subs all lined up tho'.

Let me tell you where we are: House is 2900 sq. ft., we broke ground around May 1st, 2 days for drywall & that was completed ~ 3rd week of July, painters began primer & 1st coat of interior paint ~ last week of July, trim guys started 3rd week of July (is probably 95% done), cabinets went in on this past Monday (cab. guy messed-up the order has to reorder a couple), outside of house was painted yest., concrete for driveway should be poured today, granite countertops should be installed on or by the 15th, most light fixtures went in on Mon. (I chose those in early July), ceramic tile for bath's floors & tub surrounds completed 2 days ago - now that was all a mouthful! So what's left to do: Kitchen tile backsplash, carpet to bedrooms, hardwood everywhere else, remaining outside trim, paint rest of inside, small amt. of interior trim, install Central Vac. (rough-in done), drywall the garage, get hot water heaters in, go up under the house & drill a 4th hole into Master Bath Tub (the plumber didn't get that done before the tube was tiled so that I can have the pull-out shower head that I want for the tub), clean & landscape yard.

Do you think we'll be done @ the end of the month? It looks like it (weather has been wonderful, but brutally hot here in NC too)! I hope it makes you feel better, but I don't think you'll be done @ the end of the month......
