I have been thinking of our Texas friends, too. Can't think of anyone on or very near So. Padre, but I would guess the storms are still terrible for anyone near the coast at all.

May? Brenda? Karen? Who else is down that way?

Geez, thanks for checking in on us. Here, we haven't experienced anything but a couple of small showers from Dolly. We are supposed to start getting some rain from the outter bands in a few hours, but only a few inches, which is welcome. Dolly hit southwest of us, plus we are about 3 hours from the closest shoreline. They did bus alot of people here from the Brownsville & South Padre area.

I am sitting here trying to figure out what to do with a couple of boxes of cukes that I bought and are on day 5 of Linda Lou's Sweet Pickles. I had a procedure on my back yesterday which limits my lifting to 5 pounds adn limited activity, which is not very conducive to canning...lol. Doc made this decision post procedure :(.

I think Karen is far enough from us, but it looked on some of the radar that May might be experiencing alot of rain from the bands. Will hope to hear from them, too.

Thanks for thinking of us! Like Brenda, I'm far enough away from where it hit that it didn't affect us. We did get rain as well, yesterday a little and this morning more. But nothing out of the ordinary, just enough to be good for the trees.

Considering that it hit as a low category 2 storm, Dolly seems to have done a lot of damage unfortunately. We haven't had a hurricane hit the gulf coast since the horrific 2005 season till now. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. In any case, I'm prepared to "hunker down" at a moment's notice!!

I'm glad to see that May and Brenda are safe.

How about JimTex, I don't really know where he's from but he was talking about fishing and boats so I was only assuming the ocean. Have we heard from him at all?

We are getting plenty of needed rain from Ms. Dolly. I think Jim is probably ok too.

I know that Jim has the type of job that may keep him hunkered down on the job site if there is bad weather. I hope we hear from him soon.

Glad you're all doing OK. It was mentioned that Hurricane Dolly was a large storm, so I'm guessing the rain and wind coverage was pretty extensive. I hope we hear from Jim also. Where in Texas is he?

Brenda, sorry to hear about your back issues. I hope you feel better soon. Don't worry about the cukes:-)

I guess this time of year the storms tend to form nearer the Gulf Coast. It's been pretty active for July. May and Karen, glad to hear you're both safe. Sounds like the rain has been beneficial.

I hope it's not another bad trend either.

I seem to recall Jim being from the Galveston/Alvin/Texas City area. I could be wrong though. Maybe he'll check in soon.

I'm right where dlynn says, half way between Galveston and Alvin. We got some much needed rain out of Dolly. I haven't heard if there were any deaths or injuries down there. Hopefully they rode it out ok.

Glad Jimtex, May and Karen checked in. I cannot imagine what being on the coast is like during a hurricane, as we ended up getting some serious rain downpours, and sporadic damage due to either tornadoes and/or high winds; luckily, we didn't get any damage. It was interesting to watch the bands coming up from the coast on the NWS radar online and trying to dash outside during the breaks in them to cheer DH on for emptying the pooled water on a gazebo.

Glad to hear everyone is okay and out of harms way for the most part. I saw the damage in San Antonio on the news last night and though about you Brenda. Glad to hear that you are okay.
