Plugin Errors

Running Windows XP.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Every once in a while I will try to get on a website ( has happened on different ones)and I will get these errors. I click ok on the first, then second, then it tries to open the page I want but then goes to IE must shut down. I have also tried just closing the error boxes and the same thing happens. Is there a remedy to this?

Sorry I forgot to add IE 7 and XP service pack 3. Not sure if that makes a difference.

there are a couple different reasons some could be legit, you could possibly not have the plugin in your IE browser that is needed for the application to run or it could be a bad plugin.
But recently some rogue websites have started using that method to get people to click ok thinking it is something legit they need and then find they just allowed a bad virus/trojan to be installed on their pc.

I would try getting firefox browser and using it, I bet you will not have that problem, it is safer and personally I love it and never use IE anymore except on the occasion I have to go to the windows update site.

I have no experience with Avast, but as long as there is a way to disable the plugin, and it doesn't conflict with your WOT why not give it a try. I don't see where it could hurt anything. I have my AVG's Web Browsing module enabled along with WOT installed on two of my five browsers. Everything works fine. In fact, yesterday while Googling I was prepared to open a previously not visited WOT approved hyperlink. When I clicked on the hyperlink AVG popped up and advised not to. It's likely one of the browser plug-ins conflicts. Might goto IE Tools drop down menu and click 'Manage Add-Ons' and then the recomended method is to select 'Disable All' add ons. Then add them back one at a time and surf for a while until you hopefully discover the problem one.

it sounds to me like everything is downloading properly and is showing the download completed dialog box pop up but you just do not know where to find where the items have been sent to on your pc. As zep stated go to the zip file you saved and double click on it to extract the file simple as that. YOU must find the location of where you have your pc set to save your downloads. IE will give you the run or save dialog box Firefox will not it only gives you the save file dialog box and you must have it set up where to save your files to. To find out where you have yours set to go do this in firefox: Tool>options>MAIN tab> under downloads area make sure you have a check mark in Show the download window when downloading a file: Next is the option to select where the file goes, this is where your files will be going if you have a selection there in that box. You can change that to desktop or where ever you want the files to go to. OR you can put a check mark in the next item which is Always ASK ME WHERE TO SAVE FILES. Always hit OK when changing any items. This is what I choose to do that way each time I can tell it exactly where I want that file to go. I have a my downloads folder and in there I have individual folders for what every program I am downloading. If you go to the above and find what it lists as your current location for where it is set to store the downloaded files you will find there all these files you have been downloading. If you do not know how to open a zip file then you need to familiarize yourself with that. but if you are using windows xp it has a built in zip opener just double click on the zip file! "Opening a Zip file If you're using Windows XP, then your operating system has built-in support for Zip files. They are described as "Compressed (zipped) folders." Just double-click on a Zip file and it will open in Explorer, just like a folder. Double-click on a file inside the compressed folder and you may be able to open that too (but really, Windows has extracted a copy of the file to another location and is opening that, as described above.) But if you right-click on items in a compressed (zipped) folder, you'll notice that the same options don't appear on the pop-up menu. This shows that it is not a real folder." Opening a Zip file you do not need any other application to open a zip file no need to download any thing since windows already has one built in.

Here is a link to Firefox and pages not loading properly. One of the many possible problems cited may be the add-ons and plug-ins but suggest you take the steps from the top. In your statement of your problem: 1-Error includes the word "chrome" and if that is Google's Chrome you might consider taking care of Chrome at least temporarily. (I avoid using Chrome because I am somewhat paranoid when it comes to Google and accusations of misuse of its data collection.) As to slowness of browsers, you might also look to make sure you do not have too many programs loading when you boot your computer. Thanks so much for your reply. When I click on them nothing tries to fix it and it doesn't tell me which plugin I need. So far so good with the trojan/ virus. I am faithful keeping up with my av, up to date and run it often including AVG, Spyware Blaster and AdAware. Sometimes I think it is over kill but I like to be safe. I had Firefox on my other computer just never installed it on this one. Would just as soon keep using IE for now. How could I find out what plugin it is that is not initializing properly?

It is imperative that you maintain at least two browsers on your system. They will not conflict and one, in your case IE can be set as the default.

The purpose is if your IE fails due to corruption or contamination you have a backup browser to assist you in remediating your IE concern. I for one am an ongoing IE7 user on this Vista system, However, I do have a current basic version of Firefox and Opera installed in case of need.

which specific plugin is the error for? I can not read that tiny print on the screen shot.

If you are going to continue with IE 7 you could really benefit from getting this IE7pro add-on, it does include some plugins also. It is a very neat add-on for IE7

when you did your install of sp3 did you uninstall your IE7 prior to adding the sp3 as was recommended by microsoft?

To make sure you have all the latest updates you might need for java and adobe and all those good things go to the secunia software inspector and have it scan your system, it will tell you if you have any that need updates and where to get them. Sometimes not having the very latest update can cause problems.

Also make sure you do not have a pop up blocker that may be conflicting on some sites.

Thanks DA, guess I should install Firefox again.
Ravencajun, Thanks so much for that site of Software Inspector. It did find that my Adobe Reader, Quick TimeReal Player, Win Zip, and Java needed updating. Apparently it was one of those plugins that need updating for the site I wanted to view, because now I can get on with no problem.
The errors were nothing specific: An error occured inside a plug-in contained on this page & The plugin did not initialize properly. Had they specified which plugin it was I could have fixed it by updating. Adobe, and the rest ask if I want to update, I have just chosen not to. But from now on when I get those update messages I will pay attention to them.

First, as always you are welcome.

Regarding the Acrobat Reader, if you are comfortable with it and wish to continue to use it please do. However, more and more users are finding AR to be bloated and resource hogging. Thus, many are turning to the alternative Foxit Reader with great success. If you have the space and the desire you can keep your current AR on your system and add FIR. They will not conflict. All you will have to do is set FIR as your default application for pdf files.
