Perhaps the update and the concern are unrelated. However, a prudent person could conclude they are. Since this is a post-update concern have you thought about removing the focus update if you can? If you can get in Safe Mode, open Windows Update and then its history. The information for uninstalling an update will be available there. Not all updates can be removed. Not focusing on Amity, but for the benefit of those reading the thread, this is an example of why users are alerted against updating audio and video drivers when the system is operating properly without the update. In other words, please consider leaving well enough alone. Make note of what's available, what the change log is, and where it is located. Also, often hardware manufacturer drivers released through Microsoft are already obsolete due to lag time. If something needs to be updated a visit to the manufacturer's website first is advisable. I warned you I was computer rookie. Here is what I know: 1. I have two computers. One that is set up for wireless( laptop) and one that is an older computer no wireless and is hooked up to the router. 2. Both of them work connecting to the internet 3. My older one has issues and is very slow so I mostly use my laptop. Professor said something about his blackboard and wireless has problems time to time 4. I have the cable from the wall from the cable company that is hooked to their modem and then through an ethernet the older computer has a cable from router to it. 5. I wanted to do the same thing with my laptop. I tried disconnecting the olderr computer to the router and plugging the laptop in it's place but it still appears it is using wireless( because when I disenabled wireless) it wouldn't hook to internet I don't know how to check wireless settings to accept all like somebody recommended thanks

So there are 2 NIC cards and you cannot install drivers for either of them. At this point perhaps we should turn our attention to the motherboard. Have you tried using a different PCI slot? You might also try installing the video drivers to see if there is an issue there as well. Why did you decide to replace the CMOS battery? Nothing wrong with doing that but I was curious as to why you did it. Did you remove the power cord from the rear of the computer each time you went in making changes? As you had a PCI NIC card is this a home built computer? If so what motherboard is in there? If factory built give us a make and model of the computer.

My knowledge is limited so take the following with a grain of salt. I'm going to throw out some thoughts based on a hunch that could be wrong. Hopefully others will help direct the conversation. I think your issue is a router issue and not a Windows one. It's software question not a hardware one. Not all routers have the firmware to host a printer. Maybe the printer has it? I don't know for sure. If your router can handle the job, and if so it would need some installation steps and be unlikely to be plug and play, the printer becomes visible as a Network Printer to other PCs on the network. Just the same as if the printer were connected to a PC and you designate it as a Network Printer and not a Local Printer through the Printer Setup Wizard. The PC stations on a physical network need not be "networked" in a MS sharing system or group sense to use a Network Printer. If your connection (software setting wise) is effective, using the "Connect to Network Printer" option in the Printer Wizard on each PC will show this new printer as an option. Each PC may need to have printer drivers for it to work. A printer connected to a PC can always be shared, and the mix of Windows versions is a non-issue in my experience with the same setup. But, the PC the printer is connected to needs to be on for the printing to work. If it's off, the queue is held until it's turned on. Thoughts from others?
