Some example of use would be:

1) Internet Banking, you will want to clear the traces after using.
2) Online purchases
3) Porn surfing and you don't want others to know. :D

This happens to me all the time.... when I clicked on something interesting to see more or when I visited a site to order something. I don't think there's much we can do about these annoyances. Once you figure out one avoidance technique, advertisers come at you from another direction. I don't want to fiddle around with the settings, so the way I "defeat" this advertising technique is by just ignoring all the sidebar ads. Eventually they disappear. Others replace them.... and I ignore those, too. Molie This post was edited by mjc_molie on Sat, Mar 8, 14 at 17:21

where is the 'new tab ' or 'safety' button?

Hi ilmbg, They are in IE. Look at the top right of your IE browser. The safety tab should be there. Left click on the safety tab. This should create a drop down box. Within that drop down box, click on In Private Browsing. Should be 2nd choice down. This will bring up a full page that explains In Private Browsing. Also, here is a link that I find very educational! bbbluz Here is a link that might be useful: In Private Browsing Tutorial

I agree about the Private Browsing. If your screentop border is Charcoal/blackish, you are in Private Browsing. Otherwise you have light gray. I use the Photon app available at the App Store. There are others. In fact, if you Google the phrase "to get flash for iPad" you will be able to access some YouTube directions on how to get flash on your iPad. I have been using my iPad since the first one came out. I gave my original to my granddaughter and currently have the newest version (iPad 4 which is basically a slightly updated iPad 3) Another good app is "Tips and Tricks for using an iPad". Try the free version to see what it's like.. The 99 cent one has even more tips. I also recommend an app called AppStart. There are many good recommendations for excellent free apps on that one. It won't be long before you'll wonder what you did without it! If you have any other Apple products, you'll love how they seamlessly flow together.

You will need to turn on the inprivate browsing features in IE, look at the top of the browser bar there's a tab called safety click that select inprivate filtering settings, select automatically block, click OK. This turns it on it will take care of some ads, and helps you to avoid tracking cookies. But it has to be turned on every time you open IE. Or you could follow the link and instructions I posted above to create a short cut for it. Install the IEPro 7 I posted the link to above it has a built in blocker. As I said if you only have IE on this computer you seriously need to install another browser because when IE decides to break you will have no way to get back online to get help. Even if you never use it you want to have it there. I posted links on the other thread for using what is built in on IE, look at those links please, they apply to IE8 also and have step by step instructions with pictures.

Would this be a good 'mode' to use when using a computer in, say, a public library and you want to check your webmail ? Perhaps you wouldn't have to manually tell FF to delete everything (cookies, passwords, etc.) when you close the browser at the end of your session, if the Private Browsing is designed to do such erasing automatically.

I've only been into a few (5 or so) libraries and/or cyber cafes, and none had FF and they looked at me all screwy eyed when I suggested they maybe consider getting it. I guess those folks just don't make a habit of thinking outside of the bun.

IE8 has it also. Unfortunately many public entities are not too quick in obtaining/maintaining the most current and secure computer technology.
