I have something for you to look at very similar color scheme. This tile store is very upscale and in my area. They have the ladies restroom done in glass orangey reds and accented with SS tiles. The counter is a clear red glass which cast a red glow on the stainless tile below. I didn't care for that part of it. I think they even did the ceiling but it's been a long time since I have been there, not 100% sure about that. IMHO you will need to use more lighting cause this room felt like it could have been brighter. But this photo will give you a good idea of the overall look. Thanks jjazzy. That is a bit too red for me! My 'vision' was a lot brighter/lighter with more orange. Great pics at Rainbow Tile! I am now thinking only the red silestone and red backsplash though?

You had me except for the red counter. I'd rather you used the bold mosaics and wall color but go more mellow on the counter/fixtures.

I like it, actually! In fact, I'd love to know what kind of orange tile that is in the pic. I'm doing my youngest son's bath in colors that are reminiscent of LEGO, but am having the darndest time finding a solid surface countertop in a solid primary color! But that orange tile is the perfect color ...

Back to OP: this opinion is coming from someone who had bridesmaids in bright, poppy red dresses, and lots of color - plenty of orange! - in their bouquets.

I love that you're challenging yourself, and the powder is such a perfect space in which to do that. Everyone expects a little drama there, right? I get angry with myself when I wimp out on my decorating decisions because I love color so much, but you'd never know it from the pictures of my last house.

This house, tho ... I'm a sucker for those glass mosaics!

I love your idea. I think when you look at tiles and things, keep a couple things in mind... one, there are warm reds and oranges, and there are cool reds and oranges. I like the latter... just make sure you're not getting one cool and one hot.

I do not like mixing substances a lot ... like a tile with some pattern, and then some glass, and then some stone. I prefer a couple coordinating substances.

I do love the sheer look that a glass tile would give you in the orange or red, sort of a watercolor effect. That with a ceramic plain but beautifully colored tile would look gorgeous, I think.

Although I have to say that on a small scale at least, the pic you have looks nice to me in terms of surfaces you chose.

Cinnamonsworld, I appreciate your points. Novice that I am though, I am not sure if I can tell which are cool/warm. The orange tile reminds me of a creamy orange sorbet though. I think the mosaic would be cool, and maybe the silestone warm?? I do know that they all look good together (IMHO lol!) and I love each one! The proximity of each piece to each other in my snapshot intensifies the effect, I think it will be less dramatic in real scale. My problem is that is it so permanent though...no way to modify if I got tired of it...maybe I could just tile up half way on the wall behind the toilet/sink - not so much to replace if need be!

IMO I would pick one wall and make it a focal before I did half way up the wall. I found that if you LOVE what your working with and build the room around it you will be happy with it for a long time. I know that rainbow room is too much of a good thing. It is like you just need a relief wall there was a toilet room with even more of a similar tile. Yikes.

I have a small powder room that I use red with. It's really tiny, so a little color makes a big impact. The walls are medium gray, the toilet and pedestal sink are white and the curtains, mirror, hand towel, soap dispenser and little rug are all red. I also have a framed print on one wall that has a lot of red and other bright colors in it. It works well.

You should check Houzz for some inspirations. I saw a bathroom on there that was white with red and orange tile and it was amazing.

Fantastic tile choices! Have you thought about grout yet? I can't imagine anything but white?

What about a white pedestal sink instead of a vanity? If you must have a vanity with the red countertop, stick with white. I personally wouldn't add another color (dark brown) to the mix.

The red counter is nice but I love the orange tiles and I think one would compete with the other for attention. Does the red have a silver fleck in it? That would make it cool to me and I wouldn't mix it with the warm oranges.

p.s. I also really like the orange glass tile above the one pictured. It would also go with your large orange tiles.

Thanks for the input guys! So now I am thinking white wainscoting, mosaic up the wall, mirror (I won't have to buy so much mosaic lol!). Either white pedestal or white vanity with red silestone. No orange tile unfortunately...

Update: I nixed the larger orange wall tile...but still want to incorporate the red/orange glass. So, thought about wainscoting. The attached pic is exactly what I had in mind, with the red/orange glass tile making the frame of the mirror. White wood, pale orange walls. I have already ordered a toto carrolton toilet and would get the pedestal sink to match with this single faucet

My builder says the glass tile mirror frame is too modern for the pedestal and the two cannot mix...HELP!!!!!!

tell your builder to stick to building. There is nothing wrong with what you're proposing, it's going to look great!

Many glass tile mirrors don't look 'modern' at all and besides, it's perfectly acceptable to mix things up!

Let me say I enjoy your choice of a bold color palette. But my first reaction was negative towards the orange tile, so it comforts me to see you've stepped away from that. I like the countertop color and the glass tile, but the orange tile just doesn't do it for me.

I understand what your builder is saying. Perhaps a way to relate the two would be to construct a somewhat traditional wood mirror frame with an inset middle strip of your red glass to jazz it up a bit.

The mirror below isn't at all what I'm thinking style-wise, it just had the inner, middle, and outer bands that I wanted to describe.

What I'll try to describe may not fit your design ideas...which is perfectly fine, It's your bathroom.

But take this mirror below which again, I'm just using for reference because it has three "delineations" to the frame:

Replace the inner black and silver decoration with your red glass tile.

Replace the inner and outer "gold" detail with inner and outer runs of painted wood trim, painted the same color as the wainscotting.

Have the outer wood trim wider than the inner wood trim, and have the outer trim relate in detail in some way to the other trim in the room...the wainscot, the toilet/sink detal, etc. The inner wood rim can be a little more basic, is should be minor to the more major run of outer trim.

Thanks Just Julie! Mongoct - exactly what I was thinking - traditional frame- 'modern' glass would work. I found this pic the other day - the exact glass tile and color scheme!!!!! The pic is a little darker than I envisioned, I would use a white vessel sink and lighter paint I think.

But guess what????? I never actually ordered the toilet! Somehow the plumber and I talked about it but I never actually said go ahead! So now I can rethink and order a 'modern' toilet if I want!

So, now I am back to white toilet, white vessel, mirror with tiles and maybe the red silestone, though that is definitely cool red and the glass is warm red...I think they have a solid red too though which would work...
