2012 Color: A Splash of Orange for Kitchen and Bath
Bring the energetic colors of citrus and sun to tub, counter, floor and more
This 2012 Color Trends series is about five hot color trends projected for the year. In particular I'll be showing you how to incorporate them into your kitchen and bath in a way that makes sense for your taste and your home.
Pantone, one of the world's leading color authorities, has selected Tangerine Tango as its color of the year for 2012. Behr Paint and Yolo also incorporated light oranges into their 2012 forecast.

Orange can energize a quiet, classic bathroom by adding it to just one focal point fixture. The tub is a likely spot, especially considering how often these freestanding classics are salvaged for new bath projects. Rather than having a tub refinished in white, consider adding bold color, similar to this York Tub by Victoria + Albert.
Most homeowners won't opt for all-orange countertops in their kitchens or master baths, but a focal-point orange top can really enliven a space. Here it's shown in ultra-premium Pyrolave counters, created from volcanic rock.
Laminate Floor that Imitates Appearance of Saltillo Tile
Saltillo is a classic Southwestern and Spanish Revival flooring material, but is not necessarily a practical choice for modern American homes. If you love the orange look of these floors, particularly with creamy cabinets, you can get the look with durable porcelain tile or laminate, as shown here.
Other orange-flavored floors include honey oak (which I just ran through my own kitchen and living areas in a piano gloss laminate) and cork.

Wallpaper
Wallpaper has made a strong comeback, I'm happy to say. It's a convenient way to add pattern, fun and energy to a room. I can see this vibrant paper in a teen girl's bath or in a powder room. Just be aware that you might have to take it down when you're ready to sell your home.
If you like a trend color like orange, updating a cabinet with hardware in that color is an easy change. If you don't want to do an entire kitchen, consider it for a bar area or bathroom instead.
Orange and White Ceramic Garden Stool
Garden stools are ideal for bathrooms. They can serve as a tub-side table, an extra shelf when you lack storage or an occasional use seat. Given their fun shapes, why not add a fun color to them, as well? Chances are, your fixtures are white and could use a boost.
Greek Key Pillows by Anita Scasa
Fabrics are an excellent way to add the season's hot color to your kitchen. If you're the cautious type, consider neutrals for your larger pieces, like banquette cushions and draperies, and add punches of color with accent pillows and non-custom chair or stool cushions.
Tip: I highly recommend materials rated for outdoor use, as are more stain-resistant, low maintenance and durable.
