One of my favorite previous PRs, also window-less, was a beautiful dark red wallpaper with simple vertical pleats balanced by an off-white marble rose beyaz floor. Most loved it! Given your selections, I'd opt for your DH's choice in sinks and go for it.

No to the copper. It needs brass with that mix. Moroccan brass maybe for the light fixture too.

I love the copper faucets, but I don't think they look very good with the wall color. The red paint is beautiful- I love it with the dark wood. I think I would go with a white sink if you are going to go with that mirror. The talavera sink is beautiful, though.

I think you need a lot of sparkly light as greendesigns suggested to make the space come alive.

I LOVE that mirror.

Don't kill the room with morrocon. I love the paint color, and the faucets will work but only if you light the room up with a crystal chandelier. Leave the primary color pendants for another venue. You need a jewel box. You have the right elements but DON'T overdo it.

I think it's awful to paint a dramatic color in the powder room...I've seen people use it as a place to put colors they'd never dream of putting anywhere else in the house. For example, this powder room:

I call it my wild a$$ bathroom. In fact, the first paint I selected was too light and I had to pay to repaint it an even deeper shade. Now I find people either love it or are polite enough to say nothing. Matters not to me as I love it. The colors all came out of this print, which I fell in love with.

It doesn't show up with the flash, but the shadows on the wall from the light fixture when you're in there are fab.

My powder room is black, so I have no problem with dark colors. I like the mirror quite a bit, but not with the Talavera sink. I think you should take a risk and enjoy the color, but I would probably use a different sink and I would paint the ceiling the same color as the walls.

I agree that the sink and mirror aren't the best fit, and on my monitor the sink looks very terracotta-orange compared to the other elements. You could *possibly* use it all but then everything would have to be eclectic and different from each other and then a little "offness" could work.

If you want a "tighter" look, I would keep the mirror and look for another sink, maybe metal, or something dark, not white porcelain. Dark will have more maintenance issues but in a guest powder room it should be workable. You probably won't be spitting toothpaste in that sink every day.

I think it depends on the reds of each and having adequate lighting beyond the chandelier. I've never been to the real Morocco but piling on bright colors and patterns is what comes to mind. They undoubtedly use a mix of reds (or colors) we would typically consider discordant in the States so depends how far you want to take it and how much red you like!

Whatever shade you choose, opt for one that shamelessly flatters a complexion. No matter how one actually looks, the essential job of a powder room isn't why you went in there in the first place, it's to re-launch you in society feeling that you look your best.

So, the lighting and wall color should leave you with the impression that yoooo look fabuluss. My fave powder rooms actually have trick, ever-so-slightly concave, mirrors that shave a few pounds off.

One's own bathroom, while not being dismal, should flatter but offer enough truth-telling to allow you to cope intelligently.

But powder rooms should lie without a qualm since there's nothing really to be done at that point. If you leave there with the notion that you look great, you'll feel better and be less self-critical/conscious and you, and everyone you encounter, will benefit.

Be careful with your reds. On my monitor the sink looks better with the red paint than the mirror. Remember, the mirror will be red-on-red; the mirror has a pinkish undertone and the paint chip more orange/rust undertone.

It's really hard to tell from the photos. The mirror looks blue-red on the left but lower left out of the glare does not.

YES to the red! But maybe give it some depth and interest by doing floor to ceiling all red talavera tile instead of a flat paint treatment. Or doing a wallpaper with some texture or pattern.

No to the copper without it being aged a great deal and having some of that green patina.

Yes to the brass.

No to the Moroccan light fixtures with all of the color. Maybe plain aged brass though. But, I think it will be difficult to avoid kitsch with that.

Yes to a bright and colorful sink. Just not that one. Maybe glass, to keep the look a "modern Eastern" inspiration.

Bright blue tones for the sink would work incredibly well with the red. For the ceiling too. And maybe some hot pink and mustard yellow in a framed print somewhere. Or even a fabric for a skirt for a vanity. Or a small rug. Vibrant color works really well in a small space.

Think India, not just Morocco. But, 21st century. Sleek. But with hints of the old world peeking through.

I love the Talavera sink! Not so much with the mirror, but I like the sink better than the mirror. Love the second sink down in live_wire's post: blue that looks like the bottom is on fire. So cool!

Yes to the red - love red. And the PR is somewhere you can have a bit of fun IMO.

Wouldn't floor to ceiling tile create quite the echo in a powder room, in a not so good way! ;) Guys make enough of a racket as it is, lol. I would die with amplification at someone else's house. Don't like using bathrooms publicly as it is! I like the idea of wallpaper or sound absorbing (?) fabric maybe.

Could you mount that nice mirror on a piece of something else to set it off a bit more from the red wall color?

I am somewhat relieved that the initial reaction is that red paint could work! The faucets may be a problem as it is a single handle wall mount and there are not that many of them. Not one I could find in aged brass. The same manufacturer (Danze) has my faucet in "polished" brass but it does not seem right. I will take pictures of the actual faucet in the room and repost.

Greendesigns: I loved the drama of moroccan but DH did not like it.. felt too hookan-barish to him (not that there is anything wrong with that :)

livewireoak: I loved all the indian inspirarations you posted. Felt like home to me :) I can probably rustle up old indian brass pots and bathing pails.

Here is the sink my DH suggested. His argument is that it will work with the white toto toilet.

I was thinking more rustic option of either doing a wall mount live edge slab of wood (waterloxed). or else a rustic barnwood vanity like this. With an aged copper sink. Any sink ideas?

I agree about the light and the drama.. Does the light ceiling pendant I posted in the initial post work for the ceiling? What would I do over the mirror? I guess I am not sure what to decide first. My 'circle-the-cart' many times decision making is making the men (DH, GC, plumber and electrician) dizzy and annoyed.

I think I agree that a wall covering of some sort would help. I was thinking an oversized black and white poster of a long rural road (infinity point) would be great. Or else may a stencil that mimics the mirror art?

Annie, did you say that 'tongue in cheek' that it is awful to paint a powder room red or colors you would use nowhere else or was I misinterpreting it, because you seem to love your powder room. I had an eggplant powder room once and loved it and so did most of the guests who saw it. I would do one burnt orange today if I were single, but that man I live with has his own ideas.

Don't be afraid of the dark! And there's no better place to go bold and over-the-top than in a windowless powder room.

As to what goes with what -- Between photography and lighting and monitor settings, DON'T get your color advice from us here. Bring your stuff into the room and see what works, bearing in mind that your own lighting will have a heavy influence on what does and doesn't work, and that changing the bulb can make 'misses' good and 'near matches' perfect.

So don't worry about matching colors exactly. With the eclectic look you've got started, colors won't have to "match". What you should be more concerned about is MOOD consistency. For example, your mirror reads (to me) maybe Polish or Russian to eastern European to SW Asian. But your Talavera sink is clearly Mexican. Maybe something Tunisian or Moroccan might flow better? And I'd absolutely go copper over white. White will 'lessen' your theme and swing you strongly back to 'ordinary'. Don't chicken out now ;-)

Which single element is the one you fell in love with? Use that as a starting point and flex the others -- Or use the one that needs to be installed first.

As to what color your faucets should be -- Any of the warm-toned darker finishes will work. Shiny brass will be too shiny. But an ORB, aged copper, aged brass -- ALL will work. And DON'T obsess about having all of your metals match. In a bath as eclectic as yours, they wouldn't. Shouldn't even.

And do keep Liriodendron's excellent advice in mind about making sure the paint tones and lighting flatter. That's SO important!

I was not able to go in and take photos today as the tile guy was in there doing the baseboard. I will try again tomorrow. Tactically speaking, I need to get the lights purchased (1 ceiling and 1 wall above mirror) and the sink figured out. I did call the bar wood vanity guys today and the lead time is all 6 weeks. Do you think that is the correct direction to go with a copper sink instead of the Talavera sink? Personally, I like the mirror more than the sink...

Liriodendron- I just realized that I didn't say how much I enjoyed your post.. It is such a great philosophy for how to approach the powder room decor! Just brilliant. I do have to ask where you can get the slightly concave mirror.. I called a local mirror shop and there was a long pause when I asked and then the guy handed off the phone to a lady and walked away. They have promised to check and call back.. I am not expecting a call :)

Love the copper. Love your mirror. NOT loving the barnwood vanities -- TOO rustic, I think, and too plain-ole American. What about a 'Chinese altar table' instead? A quick Google will show you lots of options, any of which could work. (And they're budget friendly.)

Since you need to pick a light fixture, I'd go wild with the ceiling fixture and downplay the one by the mirror since it's the mirror you want to draw the eye. Personally, I really liked the Moroccan inspired lighting fixtures and think you've got the perfect spot for it. For the over-the-mirror fixture, go *functional* and simple. Aged bronze, ORB, dark brown, rust, black or near-black -- all would work. You're not looking for a fixture that will further your exotic, eclectic look -- just one that won't fight it.

For your wall, what about a tapestry? There are some fabulous embroidered Indian or Tibetan pieces. Or maybe an Oriental rug? Or an Indonesian carving or bamboo shutter? Even a porcelain platter or a collection of plates with an exotic flavor...

I hate orange...it's my least favorite color, yet I love my wild a$$ PR...I find the color combo stunning and what makes it work, IMO, is the room is too small for the color to become overwhelming....and no one is in there long enough for it to become overwhelming...instead it's just enough exposure to be energizing.

To the OP's question, I don't like the copper, I like the sink and the mirror, but I think a red mirror on a red wall is blah at best, serious clash at worst. Instead I'd go for a bright navy wall from the sink and the red mirror will look great on it.

I have a tiny red PR that is painted in Benjamin Moore Moroccan Red. While I like the room with this color, I look hideous when I look at myself in the mirror. Maybe another color might be more complimentary to skin tones. I also think the era of the red room has been played out. Just my opinion of course.

A red framed mirror on a red wall is too much red IMO. It's a very unique mirror and should be showcased and made the center of attention in the space. With the sink, light fixture, and mirror all being so colorful, it would be enough to make your head spin on entering the space. I love the red walls, just not with that mirror, and I love the light fixture, just not with the sink. Delete the sink. It totally fights with the light fixture.

Is the black frame around the mirror not enough to make the mirror stand out? I love the idea of a navy wall but want to avoid repainting. Would I do the whole wall as navy or just above the sink line? Like a different color above the chair rail? Would I take the navy all around or just for the sink wall?

How about this wall mounted copper sink.

I have looked and I could not find any other options for dark colored bathroom sinks that will work with a wall mounted faucet (sinks without vanity holes). I do not like vessel sinks. Any ideas, please do post.

It is dull and dreary today and there is not enough light to take a picture of the copper faucet with the wall.

It works perfectly! They may *call* it ORB, but your 'antique copper' description is a much more accurate fit. And I like the wall-mount sink. Maybe a basket underneath for hand towels?

I tend to think the black frame *will* be enough to make the red mirror work on the red wall, but as someone mentioned, it *won't* stand out as much as it would against a different background. If necessary, you could also have a shallow-depth, wider frame set around the outside to give yourself more border.

So happy to hear the positive nods! Because everything else I have is the same color - the towel ring, the robe hook for hanging purses behind the door, the TPholder etc.

Help me with the ceiling light please. I am guessing that is the first light to decide. Another option I looked up. DH made a good point that in such a dark room with high ceilings and 'dramatic light', the light has to look good when looking up from below. Sme of the lantern style lights seem to have no bottom and so ou would stare up at a naked bulb. Any other suggestions?

Dh has a valid point~I hate looking up to a bare lightbulb. A person searches for the *right* light, and in the catalog, it's exactly what they've been looking for. Of course, the though it will be looked at from bottom to top hasn't even entered their mind, until it's UP. It's one of those disappointments you would never expect because you were not seeing it from the true vantage point.

Would you mind sharing where you found light fixture no. 2 above? or what the brand and model? (I can find out the price and I'm prepared to find out that it might be rather high but still would really like to know...)

Both the lights are from overstock.

I am not fond of the orb for personal reasons but that's just me,and I would have to change it out at my house as I have optic neuritis and I would never quit seeing the flashing lights. LOL.

The mirror and sink are beautiful. I had a deep red windowless powder room for years. It looked really dramatic and photographed well. However, the red made it pretty uncomfortable to actually be in the room. It made a small room feel even smaller than it was. The color wasn't flattering to anyone checking their appearance in the mirror, and as L said, that's important in a powder room! The biggest issue for me was that there is no heat register in my powder room and it's usually chilly -sometimes it's freezing. I found it really disconcerting to be in a red room that was cold. It was such an unsettling contrast. If you stick with the red, do make sure to use adequate lighting, the large art to counter that closed-in feeling, and be sure it's warm in there. :)

Great sink and faucet, mirror is ok. I don't like walls to be color of blood. Freaky and disturbing. I don't like green or red in a bathroom. Neither look good reflected in the mirror against the face. Don't mind a dark color in a bathroom just not blood or pea soup.

I love the sink, the faucet, and the orb light fixture. I also think the mirror will stand out fine with the black frame. Have you held it up in there?

Reflected light off of red walls can be perfect- depending on your complexion. For me, the most important thing in a powder room is NOT to have any direct lighting on my face, especially sconces right at head-level. Every wrinkle shows with that side-light from head-level sconces. I have lights behind and above my head so that the light bounces off the mirror, and I look twenty years younger in my bathroom mirror than I do in my hallway. Unless you are using the room to apply make-up, I think it's best to use lighting like a glamour photographer would.

I finally took some photos today after I cajoled a couple of volunteers to hold up the mirror on the wall.

What kind of a wall sconce I can use ths will not make it look weird ?

Or wall-mounted over-the-mirror fixture?

I'd go for something sort of 'generic' actually. Something in a dark finish (ORB maybe) where the fixture will get ignored by the eye. Maybe something with some curves to echo the mirror, amber or etched glass.

I Googled 'ORB bath bar' and looked for images. Almost any of them could work, though to complement your mirror, I'd select something with a curved shade rather than something square. The key for this particular element is to think 'background' not 'wow' -- so go for budget-friendly and 'that one's OK' here instead of agonizing to find the 'perfect' or 'best' fixture.

Your mirror? Wow! Your ceiling fixture? Wow! Over the mirror light bar? The kind of fixture you forget as soon as you leave the room.
