want advice: dble oven replace w/: steam? speed? micro combo?
Comments (2)We have a Gaggenau plumbed Combi-steam oven stacked over a Gagg convection oven. This setup provides a lot of versatility & we use one or both of them almost daily. The Gagg Combi is plumbed & can be used as a small convection oven, not just steam, and it can gently warm plates of food without drying them out. Neither of these have a microwave function, so that must be a separate unit. We have a wall Advantium speed cooker that can also function as a microwave. If we didn't want the speed cooker, we'd likely have a countertop microwave in the pantry. Because we entertain large groups, we chose a 36" range rather than a rangetop. Since its oven is so large, we can fit full size sheet pans in it, or we sometimes use it as a warming oven. Because we have several ovens, we did not install a dedicated warming drawer. We had one in our previous home & it was too small....See MoreMiele Speed Oven or Miele Steam Oven
Comments (15)Fortunately, I have a relatively large pantry (vs. a much smaller kitchen). So when I got the Miele Speed oven, I just moved my old Sharp microwave and my ancient, beloved, toaster oven into the pantry. Now, about 8 months after the remodel, I still use the toaster oven for toast, having never even tried to toast in the Miele. And the pantry's microwave gets used to do something quick (like melt butter) while the Miele is pre-heating, or baking, or whatever. Though these things only happen occasionally, its been often enough that I haven't seen my way to tossing out either old oven. The drawback, of course, is that there are 5 ovens in my little kitchen/pantry area, which seems excessive. And I suppose the pantry has less counter space for canned beans or whatever... As for the Miele's combination mode, I've only begun to explore this by using it to reheat things like casseroles -- Alton Brown's "Cauliflower Say Cheese", last night. Master Chef expects me to know how much these things weigh, which is a struggle, but last night's guess turned out just fine. Oh yeah, if you select Defrost mode, the Miele speed oven will heat in the range of 75 to 125 degrees. This setting is useful for cooking "raw" foods at 104. I did think about a steam oven as well, but there really was no way to fit it in there....See MoreMiele Chef Speed Oven Owners (24inch)..need your help
Comments (2)Here are the interior dimensions (W x D x H) for my H4082BM: 18" x 15.5" x 8.25" Because the upper broiling element intrudes into that height space, the highest usable vertical height is 7.5" (from oven bottom) or ~7" (on the glass tray), or less. Certainly no problem for a 9" x 13" casserole dish....See MoreHelp choosing appliances: Can we manage with a Steam oven & speed oven
Comments (8)Would like to add that it will also depends on the type of cooking that you do. Half the time or more, I cook Asian food, which traditionally is not calling for oven usage. There are many dishes that I now use the oven instead of stovetop though, all those steaming dishes for example. Another is the combi oven capacity, if it is a larger combi like Wolf or Miele, there will be plenty of room. For a smaller combi, it might be a bit tight having just one oven. I have a Miele which has broiler element, so it is as complete as a normal oven, except that capacity is a smaller (48l vs 76l for Miele 60cm), it can't do as high heat (225˚C vs 300˚C), and there is no self-cleaning....See Morehomeimprovementmom
