Thanks everyone. Mikie - I will try that link soon. I sort of agree that if everything's fine, don't go borrowing trouble. But my laptop isn't quite fine - and I don't know what's wrong with it. The past month it's been weird. When I unplug it (to move it to another room), it just shuts down. The battery was staying at 87% all day yesterday - while plugged in. Then it sometimes takes many, many minutes to boot up after it's suddenly shut down because it was unplugged. Sometimes I have to reboot a few times til it functions properly. I updated and ran Avast, superantispyware, malwarebyte and spywareblaster. All were fine - so I don't think I'm infected. I sometimes keep a lot of tabs open at once(I'm embarassed to say how many - but since it's relevant - perhaps 2-3 dozen). I'm comparison shopping and keeping open the tabs for whatever I'm currently researching or shopping for. I know this taxes the resources. When I shut the computer down, I run ccleaner to get all that stuff cleared up. Lately it's done something else weird. Sometimes when I click to open something up in a new tab (Firefox - which was like version 5 - but they recently sprung 9 on my which I never authorized - Windows XP). So I click open a new tab. And the tabs just keep scrolling across the top. As I try to click on a particular tab, the tabs keep scrolling to the left. This happens even if only a dozen tabs are open. And this doesn't happen every time but has become frequent. I have to let it scroll for 5-20 seconds before the tabs stay still - and I can click on one. I have no idea what's going on. At first I thought I had too many tabs open - and overtaxed my system. But since it's happened with closer to 10-12 tabs (and no other programs open), I'm not sure that's the problem. Is it Firefox? My laptop? driver? Thanks. Lynn. PS damccoy - they wouldn't let me print out the page. It kept disappearing - bc. of course they want me to spend money for their program to update - they don't want to hand me the list to do it on my own.

This is the Uniblue.com scanner? As far as safety, it is a safe site. However, in order to update your drivers that it finds outdated, you must purchase the program. There are other, similar programs available also. I would not pay for something like this. It will run the scan for free, so that part is helpful. Then you can go to the manufacturer's sites to actually download and install the latest drivers. Unless you are having a problem with a particular item such as sound, etc., be very careful about updating drivers. The old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" might apply here. Just my opinion.

sorry Lynn we were posting at the same time and I did not see your question about open it online, I did get that add on to check it out but have not found it helpful for me, I also do not like to open anything with out scanning it so I am in the habit of downloading it to my pc then scanning with a right click using AV and malwarebytes. the advantage to open it online is if someone is using a pc that does not have any type of office programs on it or photo programs, with open it online you can use the options in it to for example open a document file using google apps there by not needing office or open office to view it. with pictures you can select to use their option of picnik to open the picture and do any editing you may need to do. So in those situations it can be very helpful. I have office programs on all of my computers so really don't need it for that and I have the picnik addon already in firefox and use it often so I have that base covered also. To find the options for that add on when you click on the tools list it is listed right there and if you put your cursor on it the options button is shown.

I found a way to get my old scanner to work with Vista but it didn't work right when I first tried it. Decided not to mess with it anymore. I got my XP notebook going and it was fine so I just used that when I had to scan. Then bought the 7 notebook and found a 3in1 on clearance and figured or $39 it wasn't messing with the old one. This works, and I have an inkjet if I should need one occasionally. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle. Older units often don't work with the new OSs and I can't expect them to make them work. Plus my 7 unit is 64 bit so that throws another monkey wrench into things. And I had just gotten faxing to work on the Vista unit. The XP unit's drive died so I had to replace it. Missed not having fax capability. I still do some faxing on occasion. Computers can be frustrating and become quite the crutch too!
