Not happy- new computer old scanner not

I am finally finding time to download my software for varius things to the new computer. I use my scanner a LOT. It is a CanoScan N1220U. I've had it for years. It works great. It's not compatable with Windows 7 or with Vista. If it was at least compatable with Vista, I could install it on DH's computer and still be ok. NOT! I couldn't be that lucky! Yes, I have been to Canon's web site, there is no updated drivers available. Now, I guess I will have to go buy a new scanner.

On the other hand, it did accept the software I use for my camera program!

We can't get the wireless printer to work wirelessly, either. We installed it on my old XP, DH's Vista, and this new one. I even took it back to Staples where we bought it. They spent 2 hours trying and even tried a different printer, same make & model. Now I get to spend time with HP trying to make it work without the usb cable.

OK rant over! Hope you all had a great Christmas. I know we did.

My old scanner and separate printer (both HP) are no longer compatible with either my husband or my new laptops. I don't know what to do with either. Both work perfectly but are old. I got the scanner when we bought our first Windows 98 10 gig computer. But now we both have Windows 7 250 gig laptops.

I found a way to get my old scanner to work with Vista but it didn't work right when I first tried it. Decided not to mess with it anymore. I got my XP notebook going and it was fine so I just used that when I had to scan. Then bought the 7 notebook and found a 3in1 on clearance and figured or $39 it wasn't messing with the old one. This works, and I have an inkjet if I should need one occasionally. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle. Older units often don't work with the new OSs and I can't expect them to make them work. Plus my 7 unit is 64 bit so that throws another monkey wrench into things. And I had just gotten faxing to work on the Vista unit. The XP unit's drive died so I had to replace it. Missed not having fax capability. I still do some faxing on occasion.

Computers can be frustrating and become quite the crutch too!

Shelley, did you get a Mac or is iTunes now available for a PC? What is limewire like to use? I use Acquisition which I'm quite happy with. They let you know when the new one is available to download plus it is easy to navigate. My house needs cleaning too but I don't know if I'll get it done. Went to emerge last night since my abdominal pain is back. It has been for a couple of months now. Turns out I have an infection of some type some where. So lots of antibiotics and I'm to go back if anything changes. Not good. I'd just like to know where the infection is. Syreeta (Who is in a lot of pain right now.)

Thank you so much for the ideas. Donating was my only thought and will check around and see who would want it, for parts or practice or whatever. The hard drive was my concern. Also, never thought about just removing the hard drive! Duh, that would be so much better than trying to erase! From my google searches erasing didn't seem as easy as it sounds. And besides, I would have to hook it back up and reconnect to be able to do that. Far easier to just remove it. As far as installing a new operating system. I will let the next new owner do that! I have more hobbies now than I have time to get to. My new years resolution is: DO NOT START ANY MORE NEW HOBBIES, NO MATTER HOW APPEALING THEY SEEM! Thanks again. I was going to state that you can make it appear almost like XP, so it is much easier. My sister that is VERY computer illiterate went from ME to Vista!! After about an hour on the phone, we got it set up to just about the way it looked before. I didn't have her take off the authorization pop ups tho...I wanted her to make sure she knew what she was doing! If she can get through that, I believe ANYONE can!! My first Vista was at the office and that was a year ago last month. I go between my office puter, and laptop both on Vista to my main desktop that is XP. I honestly don't understand what all the griping is about! There isn't really that much different! Except for that pop up...and you can take that off. The biggest difference on it is My Pictures...there are some wonderful bonus' in that tho! I guess I have been very lucky too, as I have had no problems with any drivers! And at the office I have ALL ages of printers/scanners.

I recently bought a new HP Pavillion 500 from Costco....thank goodness they have a 90 day, no questions asked, return policy. It came with Windows 7. I set it up and almost immediately got the blue screen of death. I called HP tech support.....in India. I had a difficult time understanding the woman. I called Costco Concierge service the next morning and things when better. I had to go a complete factory restore. It still didn't work. Finally had to send it to be repaired....Fed Ex brought a shipping box....but someone at HP forgot to include the pre-paid mailing label. It took almost a week to get one, which was delivered by Fed Ex. I got the computer returned and it took about a week and when I set it up again, nothing had changed. Even the screen stating Windows had unexpectedly shut down. A new wireless card had been installed but it seems like no one checked to see if there were any other problems. I called the special tech support number and got someone in Indiana. The guy was excellent....it took about two hours to get things to work. And then the updates wouldn't upload. And then, once again I got the blue screen of death. I took the computer back to Costco Tuesday. Now I will wait to decide what I am going to buy and I will certainly buy it at Costco. I think I will probably go with Windows 8.1. The month I had it was a nightmare except for the tech in Indiana who had the patience of a saint.

Step-father had a Kodak all-in-one. It just quit printing black. Changed cartridges, still won't print. Colour prints fine.
Tried to install is HP that he had prior to the all-in-one.
Windows 7 doesn't recognize it. It works perfectly and nothing wrong with it.

He bought a Lexmark at a boxing day sale yesterday. Not sure how Lexmark's are. I've heard that the cartridges are expensive, but I'm not positive.

Making software obsolete is stupid. No wonder our landfills are full.

You might be able to use XP Compatibilty mode.

Tami, I have the same problem.. a Canoscan scanner and Windows 7. I didn't know it was a compatibility issue, but I should have figured since most of my favorite software doesn't work either.

I'll check out Iowagirls link too.

When I got my new computer with Windows 7, I had to download new drivers for my printer/scanner. Once I did that I installed it with no problems. I have an epson scanner/printer so just went to their website, selected my model and it told me what I needed to make it work.
