help have no pass port we are limited!!!

So were looking to fly out Weds the 30th return on the 3rd of Aug....original plan was Florida Key West which is becoming big $$$$...so we were thinking of the caribbean at an all inclusive found a great deal at Sandals Jamaica but we cant go because we dont have passports our travel agent says we can go to Puerto rico or the US Virgin islands with out one...so were looking to party a bit we wont have the kids we like action pack but not big on sports or hiking....Anyone have a suggestion...we are even open to something in the USA....just dont want to pay 2000.00 to sleep. TIA

Well if you don't have passports you will have to stay in the US...

If you are looking for something beachy you will have to go off season to southern US...unless youw ould want to go to some place like Vancouver Island...but the plane fare will cost and it will take a while to get there. ..as will any place in Californiz.
You could go to Maine, or Martha's Vinyard or Cape Cod but those will all be high season and lots of $$.
There's always the Alabama resorts and Florida resorts along the gulf...but it will be hot and some are still suffering from Katrina.
How about South Padre Island Texas?....should be cheapk, lots of Mexico influence without the need for a passport, water and always a sea breeze.

Hmmm.pondering my thoughts...Texas..riverwalk? is it called but probably sweltering...thought of The cape but we wanted tropical....looking at the Virgin islands ...gonna give a holler to Ginger

This is from my husband: My husband checked and there was no water coming out of the condensate drain of the heat pump. He also turned off the whole house air exchanger. Still the air was being sucked through the whole house air exchanger. He tested this by holding a piece of paper up to outside vent and the paper was sucked onto the vent. Since the humidity outside has been running between 60-75%, it has been pulling all this humid air through the entire house and nothing is going back out through the condensate drain. All this humid air is staying in the house. We have two dehumidifiers running full steam, that are pulling about 10-11 gallons of water out of the house per day, still the humidity won't go below 50%. What we did (on our own) was to turn the air exchanger off and tape the vents so that no air could be pulled in. We then called the technician and explained all of this to him. The technician came today. Before he came, we un-taped the vent. He checked the freon. It looked ok, but he added just a tiny bit, for good measure. He pulled the cover off the air handler and there was NO water coming off the coils into the condensation pan. The temperatures on the heat pump while running were normal. He says he is coming back tomorrow and is going to put a damper on the air exchanger so it will only open when the air exchanger comes on.Until then he suggested that we tape the vent to the air exchanger closed, so as not to allow any air to come into the house. The technician never said why water was not condensing into the drain pan. My husband did ask him, but he evaded the answer, possibly because he didn't know, but my husband feels like he will come back with an answer tomorrow. The air temperature setting in our home, which is 69 degrees, has served to keep the house @ 69 degrees. My husband's theory is that possibly the air in our home is not warm enough to condense on the coils, thus it just passes on though to our house because the fan speed is blowing so hard and fast. My husband raised the temperature on our thermostats (we have three zones) to 72 degrees. With the two humidifiers going (one in the basement and one on the second level) and no humid air being brought through the air exchanger, it is his hope that we will be able to bring our humidity down. This is what my husband who, honestly is not expert here, has figured on his own and if it quite possible that he is onto something. MY thinking is that we paid over 24,000 for this and we should be having NO problems. And I would like your opinions. My husband feels that after doing what he did, which included taking one humidifier from the basement to the upstairs, that he has possibly stabilized the air to 50%. I feel like something much worse is wrong with the system that we should not have to be doing this stuff. Please submit opinions, and God bless you for all your responses. The people we have dealt with are such jerks,the owner hanging up on my husband when he tries t discuss something with him, scheduling us for appointments and then never showing to help us with this problem...It has truly been a nightmare. Also a question from me....does this mean that we will never be able to have our temps set below 72 again? I suffocate at temps over 70.

The problem with cabinets over a pass-through or peninsula is not just the "view" when seated - it's also when standing. Most people are ripping out these cabinets when they remodel. To make it "user friendly", they have to be mounted high enough so the tallest person in your family (or among close friends/frequent visitors) can stand and look through the space w/o having to duck. If you try to talk to someone on the other side, you will also have to duck to talk to them. My advice: Don't do it! Oh, and I would make the counter all one height on both sides. If the counter will be 36" (counter-height) high on the kitchen side, make the entire counter 36" high so you have a large enough surface for that homework you mentioned and for extra workspace when needed for large projects. When counters are two levels, the usable surface depth on the higher level is usually too shallow to make it really usable for much more than leaning on arms or for placing a drink glass. If you plan for homework, I would want a surface at least 24" deep, maybe more. I know my kids take up more than 24" of depth when doing homework on our peninsula...closer to 30" or 36".

2 years ago we went on a kitchen tour. Saw lots of these lovely glazed cabinets. In fact those cabinets helped convince my dh that painting our dark oak cabinets would be a good idea. So we started the process of painting our cabinets ourselves. Then I began to experiment with the glazing. It just made them look dirty and I decided that I liked the look of the white alone, so we went with just white. I'm so glad now I didn't glaze them. I am tired of the glazed cabinet look, but not tired of white cabinets without the glaze. (Not just referring to my kitchen, but we just went on the kitchen tour again and were in different kitchens--didn't see too much of the glazed this go 'round, but did still see lots of the creamy white cabinets) I would be afraid that it might become the same thing as when my mother did that "antique-ing" thing on her cabinets way back in the 70's.

hi first of all would like to thank you for any help you can give us and sorry about the mess..As you walk in my front door you are looking at my baby son Micky Mouse picture..so the TV is in the middle of the wall where my sofa is..as in picture 3..so as you walk in and sit down on my sofa you are facing my TV that why TV is where its at.. how i could change the TV and but it on the wall on the right in picture 6.. and move my fish tank and sofa so as you walk in my house you pass in front of my TV.. But i think the front door would hit the TV as you can see below...im up for ideas..when my wife bought the house she told them to paint it one color as you can see..mmmm.so this is a 4 bedroom with 2 bathrooms all one color..so I need colors about to buy this $1500 new Leather sofa so starting fresh. That will fit from inside my front door along the window and i need to move my fish tank...my floors are very cheap looking..but that will take a.lot of money..right now i need PAINT

St. Thomas is wonderful and you can take a ferry to St. John from there. Both places are beautiful. My DH and I pretty much do the same things you do. Love to sit at the bar and enjoy great appetizers while yakking with new people. I like a place with atmosphere. We've been to the best, fun bar in St. Thomas but we also greatly enjoyed having drinks with crabcakes and coconut shrimp at the absolutely gorgeous outdoor bar at the Ritz Carlton. The hotel and grounds are so beautiful. Worth the trip.
We've had chinese food at a restaurant right near the the cruise ship docks. It wasn't bad. It wasn't Boston chinese food but it was ok. Also, check out the outdoor bar in the Marriott Frenchmans Reef hotel...it has a beautiful view and if you look down and over the railing you will see 100's of iguanas. Actually, you won't see them at first.. and theen one of them movees and you realize what you are seeing is a wall of iguanas. There is a very big one that sometimes shows up at the bar. You can feed him fruit slices. His name is Spike. For another bar will a gorgeous view you can head up to Paradise Point. You take a tram to get up there. When we first went there, there was no tram and we had to spend a small fortune to get a cab driver to take us. It was a very scary ride. Very narrow winding road. At that time it was simply called The Bar and we had a blast once we got there! The bartender was from Boston and we drank all kinds of crazy drinks and he lit up a gas grill and cooked us huge grilled shrimp, on the house.
Anyway, I think you would love St. Thomas. Wish I was goin'! ;)

St Thomas or Puerto Rico sound like great choices. We have been to both and enjoyed them very much. Prices should be down a bit now, off season I would think, so you should be able to get a deal. Las Vegas could be another option ....but a whole different few days! The Phoenix area , specifically Scottsdale, have some amazing resorts as well.

Oh and just for the record, you don't need a passport to travel to Canada by land, only by air or sea. So all you Americans without passports drive on up to Canada......tropical it ain't but fun and friendly it is.

The exchange rate and the price of gas will kill you but we are so nice , it's worth it! LOL

Come to Philadelphia! It's pretty tropical here in the summer.

I have always wanted to visit the Vancouver area of Canada. Kind of a long drive from here, but my passport is still up-to-date.

but Pam , like I said, as long as you are driving there is no passport required. A very big misunderstanding in the US that hurts Canadian tourism.......

Cross by car = no passport required , either way between Canada and the US. Flying in requires one.

Having said that, we should all have passports it makes life so much easier!

DH took me to St. Croix for my birthday last year - no passport needed. The Buccaneer Hotel was beautiful. We took a sunset cruise, went to a music festival in town and visited a botanical garden. Driving on the wrong side of the road was an adventure. Mostly we sat on the beach and ate and drank too much! There weren't many tourists around because the cruise ships don't stop there.

If you do leave the U.S. without a passport, double check what kind of I.D. you need to return back to the U.S.

We booked!!! i called The Ocean key Resort and Spa direct and spoke with the manager of reservations..i guess she really liked me because she gave me a expired "Back to Paradise" package and threw in breakfast for 4 days free Momosas 8 free drink tickets and a Junior Suite Oceanfront for 1500.00...this room is usually 589.00 per night...the best my travel agent could do was 489.00 per night at the Hilton with no bells and whistles! Im so excited if you get the chance look at the Ocean Key resort website in key West its looks awesome...I will definately go to the spa! I did give her my NY charm and tale of woe...she was so nice this is supposedly a 4 star resort! Alot of the hotels were completly booked they said the off season is certainly not "off season" this year wonder if it has something to do with the economy.

Eileen, you will be going exactly when "mini lobster season" starts (last weekend in July)

That is why the hotels are booked up. It's going to be crowded down there!

You can travel to the Caribbean by land or sea, not flying without a passport, just a certified birth certificate. You could fly down to Florida then hop a short cruise to the islands. I am a certified passport acceptance agent.

Eileen, I am so glad that you got to go to KW. We have been going there since 97 and try to get back at least twice a year. It's a wonderful place. If you need any info or suggestions, just let me know. Everyones taste and ideas are different, but I'm sure you will have a blast! Just a few things off the top of my head, that for us are a must. The best ice cream is at KW Ice Cream at Schooners Wharf. The best outside bar, entertainment and bartenders and just plain fun is Hogs Breath on Front Street near Mallory Square. To get a good idea of all of Old Town take a Conch Train Tour, it is so worth it! And for a very special evening for dinner or just cocktails, Louie's BackYard is wonderful. Champagne Sunset Cruises by Sabago are also a blast, as is the dinner cruise, I forget which boat we took out last time, but the food was fabulous!Oh I need a trip back to the Keys! I'm so happy for you! Gina

Gardengrl THANK YOU!!!!! Im looking foward to a good crowd also we booked a sailboat sunset cruise that has a band and DH surprised me and rented a 2008 awesome canary yellow corvette with 400 something horespower YeHa!!!!!!! Im very psyched!! Thanks to all for the great info!
