Please help us narrow down our house search!
Comments (9)My thoughts... Mulholland: I would probably do away with the sitting area of the master and increase the closet/utility area - maybe even make a door connecting those two. No entry closet unless you count the one inside the bathroom which seems a bit weird. Garage is too small. 24x24 is about the minimum we would go with. I think visually it would be nice, but I might be concerned with the upstairs being open to the foyer and great room with only railing separating it. This might depend on the age of your children. CLS-3219: Will laundry being on a separate floor from master bother you? Will you like all the bedroom doors being that close together? Nothing bad really jumps out at me in this plan, but nothing about it really speaks to me either. Global House Plan: I don't think you need a hearth room, family room, and den. Maybe have the den as your office, keep the family room as is, and reconfigure the hearth/kitchen/morning into just a kitchen and breakfast area. Laudry area is pretty small. Overall, most rooms are just too small, especially the garage. Since there isn't a hangout spot separate from the living area for the kids, I would want to increase the sizes of their rooms as well. It wouldn't have to be a lot, but play around with furniture and maybe add in things like a tv/computer/desk/chair/etc. in addition to their normal bed and dresser. Building Science: Overall I like the plan. The laundry seems a bit weird, but don't know a better place for it. No front closet. Actually, not really any closet by a door for coats....See MoreNarrowing down range choices
Comments (5)I would tend to echo the comments above. As a Lacanche buyer, I'd tend to agree that if what you're looking for is a "commercial style" range that Lacances don't really fit into this crowd. Wolf, Viking, BlueStar, Five Star, etc are all similar enough in appearance (SS, big cast grills, etc) that most non-GW obsessives could not tell them apart without looking at the logo. Anyone could pick a Lacanche out of a lineup with the others. If that all-stainless, "all I care about is functionality" restaurant look is what you're going for then the Lacanche is definitely wrong. My Lacanche bias does prompt me to ask, what was it about the burners that you "half way dismissed because of the burner sizes?" The Cluny 1400 which we ordered (which admittedly is 55'' wide, not 48'') can be configured with two 18K Classique open burners plus four smaller burners (two 15K and two 11K is the standard). Custom configurations can be chosen if that's not what you want, such as four 15K burners plus the two 18K Classiques. That compares favorably with the array of 15K burners with the closed, or 16K open burners on the Wolf, though it certainly falls short of the 22K BS burners. Perhaps the concern is the desire to have all burners the same so there is no confusion over which one to choose. I'd argue that the array of burners is more efficient and allows better utilization of different sized pans, but certainly understand some folks preference for "equality."...See Morenarrowed down to 2 fridges...I think...help please
Comments (6)I have the elux but not the icon. Love it. I have saved so much because food lasts so long without spoiling. The freezer is amazing as it keeps ice cream solidly frozen. I did not go with water or ice through the door for 2 reasons. ( even though I was used to this since I was in high school) 1, took up too much real estate in the fridge. 2, at that time 2.5 years ago) Elux was having some issues with the ice through the door. Make it 3 reasons- DH uses ice on his injuries and the ice resivoir was too small. I keep water in the fridge in the summer. In the winter, the water enters our house at 37 degrees so decided I could live without ice/water through the door Usual iPhone text errors....See MorePlease, help me narrow down my long list of island pendants!
Comments (31)Thank you all so much! Seems like #1 is the clear winner. That's good, because it was the one I was leaning towards! I think it works perfectly with the urchin. Glad you all like the chandelier. Can't wait to share finished photos with you all. Justterrilynn, thanks for the suggestions -- #3 is the exact one we are using in our den, which will be about 20 feet away from the pendants. I think we are doing it in black though, like this (which will pick up on the black cord of the pendant): As for the others, I really love the delicate simplicity of #6, so we may use it as a pendant in my daughter's bathroom. And I think the Tom Dixon beat lights might show up elsewhere in the house too. I just visited the Tom Dixon showroom last weekend, and I was smitten: In other news, I just finished our lighting plan and turned it over to our contractor! So happy to have some decisions behind me. Many thanks to everyone for weighing in....See MoreMrs_Nyefnyef
