Update on our found Siamese cat (pics)

The skinny, hungry little girl who came to our garden is developing into a beautiful child and she's becoming a real mummy's girl. She follows me around everywhere and insists on lying with her head on my computer keyboard. When I get up to go in the kitchen she sits on my computer chair until I get back. But she's also curious about things that go on in the garden.

Today when I was filling the bird feeder she sat on the grass nearby and was quite interested in the flurry of wings overhead. I will definitely have to watch that and put some plastic funnel guards on the tree trunk to be sure she doesn't try to climb up.

However I think she's a little frightened by the dove who comes daily to dine as it makes wing flapping noises when it alights in the tree.

I can't get over how beautiful and well behaved she is.

Oh yes and her name is Bibi, and she's putting on some weight now.

We're so lucky that she chose our garden to enter as her new home! We really love her.

Oh she is gorgeous! I love her eyes. Isn't if funny how cats will adopt people? My parents currently have 3 cats and a stray cat has recently adopted them. So it looks like come winter if he sticks around, they will have 4. He was coming in through the back door they leave open for their cats. He would sneak around the house and visit my dad during the day, and eat the cat food in the pantry. At first Dad didn't want anything to do with him, now he is leaving food outside for him. I was the first to pet this friendly fellow, and he definatly picked a good home to stay in. If we could get another cat I would take him in, but our little house is full with 2 plus the dog. Looks like Bibi found a happy home too!

Your new cat sounds wonderful. The most recent stray who adopted us is an Oriental mix. My husband was 100% against taking in yet another one, but now, 3 years later, they are best buddies. My husband is his human and he sleeps next to him every night, tucked into his arm. He sleeps on his desk while he is on the computer. He greets us at the door, fetches toys, talks a lot and is as playful as a kitten, a total clown. We call him the puppy-cat. :o)

We went to see Paul Newman today and met an amazing person who rescues cats and dogs from city pounds where they face certain death. She and a small group of foster home volunteers take care of them until they can find them homes. She screens people very carefully. I had to provide references and she called them - my vet and my cat sitter. He was a sweet cat but not overwhelmingly all over you and in your face. He's seriously overweight (20 lbs) which may be the reason he's kind of lethargic for a three year old cat. We'd have to be sure we could address the weight problem with our multiple cat household - including one IBD cat whose dietary needs are high priority. He doesn't look as much like a Siamese cat as I was originally hoping for - really just his face and shoulders. Otherwise his lower two thirds are all dark brown. I noticed quite a few older Siamese cats are darker like this. Do they just get darker with age? The young ones are always light with the distinctive markings on face and feet which I love. He also seemed to have a bit of abdominal sensitivity which we're wondering about. He is vet checked, shots, feline leukemia negative, etc. but we're investigating just how thorough his exam was. Since I have one old cat with special needs I do really want to get a younger cat that is at least healthy to start with. Anyway, Paul Newman wasn't the "perfect" Siamese cat I have been dreaming of but he is very sweet and needs a good, permanent home. So at this point I'm kind of wondering if I should be giving him that home or continuing to search.

I had heard that it's a good idea to get a kitten when your cat gets older--supposedly the older cat will train the kitten and discipline them and you will never be without a cat. I thought about doing it but I couldn't see my cat ever accepting another cat in the house since she went nuts if she ever saw another cat on our property. She would sometimes sit at the glass doors let out blood chilling screams during the night when she spotted a cat in the yard. When my beloved cat passed away, I got a new kitten right away. What shock it was just for me! I had gotten so used to my calm, loving mature cat that the kitten seemed like a little ping-pong ball who always wanted me to play. She is curious about EVERYTHING. I skipped making cookies and gingerbread houses this year because I knew it would be hard for her to resist "getting involved". At times, I wondered if I made a mistake and should have adopted one of the many adult cats instead of this frisky little kitten. But every month she gets a bit calmer and more loving and I'm glad I adjusted to her. I am no expert on cats. In the early days, my kitten would use the box and not cover. I read up on it and found it was because I was keeping the level of litter in the box too low for her. It said that kittens like to dig around in the litter more than older cats and will stop if there are already "lumps" in it. I got a box with higher sides and put more litter in it & try to make sure I clean out the box twice a day (especially before she eats) and she always covers when I do this. I noticed the kitten drinks much more water and uses the box to wet much more often than my mature cat did. I am surprised how much more use the litter box gets with the kitten. I sure do hope your kitties can learn to tolerate each other for all of your sakes. It was hard enough on me to have my kids bickering, I would feel very torn to have an annoyed mature cat and a cute frisky kitten going at it. Your experiences makes me glad I didn't get a kitten any sooner. It does sound like a good idea to have more litter boxes on different levels of the house. Best wishes to your family & felines.

She is beautiful - does she "talk" like the Siamese cats like to do? My friend's Siamese could have a conversation with you, I swear, LOL. And I once had an all black cat named Henry who had Siamese features and he talked constantly - I'm sure he had some Siamese cousins in his bloodline.

Sharon, she is just beautiful, and looks so much better than she did when she found you.

My Aunt Midge has always had Siamese cats and as Woodie mentioned, they "talk" a LOT. They also tend to be "one person" cats, they tolerate everyone else, but only really love her.

Bibi has the most beautiful eyes, what a lucky girl to find your place.

Woodie yes she does talk, especially if I pick her up and hold her in my arms. I think she's quite surprised at that, as it's something new for her, but she loves to jump up on my lap as well. She also tells me very clearly when she's hungry!

Annie interesting about them being 'one person' cats. She does follow me around the house everywhere and even outside to my car. This morning I had to bring her back inside the house and have Wolf hold her until I had driven out and closed the garage door.

What a gorgeous cat! How wonderful you found each other.

Seems she has become a "house" cat. Can't recall if you have any other cats that "live in". If so how is that all working out?

Chase we have one cat left who is a house cat.
(her photo) who is about 14 years old and who was blinded in an accident years ago.
She has her sleeping place in the garden during the day and in the evening she sits on her blanket beside me (or on my lap) while I watch TV and stays there inside for the rest of the night, unless it's very hot when she sleeps outdoors.

Bibi has just noticed her and is curious but they haven't touched noses yet LOL.

The
(his photo) wanders around the garden, sleeps under a bush and just shows up for meals.
Bibi has seen but ignores him and he just watches her from a distance, but no aggression from either side.

What a beauty! I had a siamese mix who was quite a talker too and overall great cat. I loved him to bits.

Do you hear an echo? What a beauty! I adore my Siamese. Very sweet girl. And a jealous one, too. It's less that she wants just one person as much as she doesn't want any competition from the other two.

Yep, you're both lucky! I love their blue eyes and coloring.

Miss Bibi is stunning! She is very lucky to have found you and for you to have found her too. I still cannot believe that anyone would just dump her. There is special place in h*ll for them, but she has found her heaven.

I love talking cats. You can have a conversation on any subject and they always agree with you.

Sharon, I'm so glad you beautiful girl found you! She looks so happy!

On a very light note, however, does anyone else get a chuckle at the thought of a canary bird owning a cat? Sort of brings up Twitty Bird and Sylvester thoughts. Or is my brain just strange???
