What do you use for shampoo etc. storage in shower?

Love this site! Have found some great inspiration and ideas here...so thank you.

In a stand alone shower, what do you use to store the shampoo/conditioner/body wash/etc. bottles?

If you have pictures, I would love to see!

I think organization is at least as important as sheer storage space. Spread all your bathroom junk out on the floor or bed and pretend you're at a garage sale and that you have to 'buy' anything you want to keep (and not at a too-good-to-pass-ip price). If you don't care enough about it to buy it back now, then throw it away! TOSS those 10-year old lotions and potions! Failed make-up experiments? Throw 'em away! Perfumes and after shaves that aren't your style? Toss 'em! Curlers, straighteners and personal appliances that are no longer being used -- Goodwill 'em. The sheer volume of 'bathroom garbage' may dismay you; but you may also be pleasantly surprised by the 'good stuff' you rediscover simply by tossing the carp. Then sort and group the rest into baskets and bins that are just large enough for what's in them. Storage containers that can be stacked to fully utilize the vertical space will make the most of shelves, and see-through containers and big labels are wonderful! Then put the seldom-used stuff on the hard-to-reach shelves and the used-everyday stuff in the easiest-to-access areas. How much storage space do I have? One small medicine cabinet and an 18" wide by full-height closet. Between those two spaces, I have everything I use plus soap, shampoo, toothcare and deoderant for the entire family.

I have been working with a carpenter to get my house in shape and he told me his mother sold her house a few years ago. She had him retiling, refinishing floors, refacing cabinets - drove him crazy! The house sold in a month for $540,000. Her neighbor put her house on later that year. Her house was disgusting (his words). Never did a thing to it. Sold in a week for the same amount. He keeps telling me 'just put the dam thing on the market...stop fixing things!' I'm thinking that this is a tough time to sell. There are over 100 houses on the market in my area. Many are newer construction (last 5 years). Huge homes, everything looks new. Then there are the older houses which haven't done much updating. The larger houses are all priced over 1M and are sitting. I have been watching and the houses which are selling are the mid-range houses 5-800,000. Majority are in the 6's. I think staging will help. It seems to me that many of the houses appear staged. They look very cleaned up, neat and sort of generic. All the wood floors are shining and the bathrooms look updated. Some kitchens are older but look clean with updated appliances. Xamsx I like your idea. It would be so helpful to know. Jane

I hate disappearing lids! For that reason I use the Rubbermaid that the lid snaps to the bottom, and the set as advertised on TV that all fits inside each other and have the lids attached. They are great. I too have glass Pyrex but the red lids keep splitting and I wash by hand. I keep a supply of the cheap ziplock in the cabinet too. Those I don't mind giving away.

I want to find out what the actual exact BTUs of the current burners I have are, to figure out how much extra I actually NEED. It's easy to be tempted by the super powerful options but maybe something that just isn't awful would be enough. :) Although I'm also intrigued by the cleaning on an open burner - I don't like cleaning around sealed burners, it's just one of those things I find generally annoying. Our fridge is a full-fridge Miele so it goes nearly right to the ceiling, no room for storage above it. Eventually I do hope to replace the cabinets and when I do that we might add a built-in microwave and that would give a space for that sort of storage above. (The ceiling in our kitchen is also a bit low compared to the rest of the house - it was the porch at some point and got closed in for the kitchen. So that loses a little space also.) I LOVE the Super Susan. Not sure we have a place to put that but that's so much nicer than with a pole in the middle. One thing I am thinking for more storage - not for pots and pans but for smaller pantry stuff - is to have shallow storage with a sliding door set INTO the wall to make use of the space near the backdoor that is too narrow for proper cabinets. But that's for when we redo the cabinets and right now we're just replacing the range. (Luckily the old cabinets were set up for a wider range than the normal 30" so I can go to 36" no problem.)

I used to hate shower caddies. I mean detest beyond detest. Then we found the Simple Human shower caddy. It works. the leg and suction cup at the bottom keep it stable even with several large bottles of shampoo and conditioner in there. It has a 5-year warranty and ours, after probably three or so, is showing no signs of discoloration or weear.

Do a search for niches.... best thing I did in our shower. We've got one niche with a shelf across the center. Plenty of room for everything and just makes the look of the shower.

We are just now in the construction phase, but we have a 41" tall knee wall between the shower and vanity and we're having an 18" wide niche put in the knee wall. I want to hide the bottles from view so we can focus on the new beautiful tile. The bottom of the niche will be at about 18" off the shower floor, but the bottles will be about 12" tall, so it won't be a problem to grab them.

we have niche in master bath that is on wall to right facing one shower head and under the shower head on that wall--
just make sure your niche is either behind the water flow or higher than most of where the water will fall--it should have about a 5 degree slope for water run off

our niche is not that large--2 big shampoo/conditioner bottles plus smaller one
but we have a ORB wire corner stand from BBB with tiers that we keep in corner of shower---it has finish that is not supposed to tarnish/fade and so far (a year) that seems to be still true--not lot of soap scum on it either

if you put something like that in your shower--use car wax on it or some type of sealer--makes it easier to wash off

we have a Simply Human caddy in two our showers and the tile has lot to do with how well it sticks--irregularity in the surface means the suction cup can't make a tight seal--and the shower head can be too close to the wall to allow for it to hang right--that happened with one of ours...
Simply Human also makes a shower caddy that is a stand model and it has hooks like you use to hang a razor on in the shower

one thing I wish we had put in and we still can add I guess are couple of knobs to hang washcloths on--we reuse ours vs getting new ones each time
it would be nice to have something to hand them on--just like bath brush...

Since we did not have wall depth for niches we chose a chrome mesh basketby Ginger. It looks nice and has a system where the basket is a bit away from the wall to facilitate cleaning. Our glass doors are going in today so will post pics later in the gallery of our small bathroom remodel.

I had my contractor install these shower baskets right into the tile.

Baskets were purchased at Home Depot - about $50 each - not supposed to rust.

What do you use for shampoo etc. storage in shower?
