My advice was to get superantispywear instead because it is now the top free product. AdAware used to be a good program but has not kept up in my opinion. but if you do a search through a few pages you should find the topic.

For superantispyware you download the blue free version, update it make sure it shows your C drive as selected for scan then do full scan, you can let it clean anything it finds. I update and run mine once a week.

I too got rid of AdAware after they abandoned the SE version and brought in 2008. Replaced with the free Superantispyware.

I have been using the software suggested in here for years and found it to be excellent. Recently I added Super anti spyware and it has never found anything, neither does spybot or my AVG anti spyware. I am assuming it is because I run CC first???? Can one simple little thing like CC do that well or is it just a fluke?

I would say it means you are using very good surfing practices. You want it to find nothing in the perfect world but usually there are some cookies left to take care of but if you used ccleaner you likely had it take care of the cookies.

If you did ever get one of those nasty malware infections like that antivirus 2008 that is going around you would be very happy to see superantispyware wipes it out immediately but not such good results with the other 2.

As we say if you practice safe HEX you should not need any protection. But just in case.... better to be safe than sorry.
I personally have never had an infection, way back when the blaster worm first hit I had one pc that got it because I had not done my windows update for that yet. I don't click on things, I don't open attachments, I don't go to questionable sites, I use and pay attention to McAfee site advisor, I keep updated on everything. Being educated and staying updated is your best protection.

raven, I have had infections from the web and learned how to deal with it from people like you in places like this. As far as safe surfing goes, I just install and set the software and haven't had a problem in a long time but haven't been any graphics sites lately. LOL I love the web, mainly for researching any and everything. I wonder if World Book has gone out of business? LOL

Oh and I do update the protection software every time I use it.

I just did a search and found out that I asked this question on July 23, 2008. I have been so busy I had forgotten I had posted this very same question.

I downloaded the Superantispyware a couple of days ago and I like how it is set up.

Will my using the uninstall in Programs remove everything of AdAware 2008, or will I have to do a search to get rid of everything?

I just installed Spybot with the download file spybotsd160.exe. When Spybot loads, I see the following:

-- Slugmeter labeled "Loading Spybot"
-- "Legal stuff" message box: "If you remove advertisement robots with this program, you may not be allowed..."
-- "Confirm" message box: "Spybot - Search & Destroy has detected that you have the following products installed: Lavasoft AdAware. This may cause incompatibilites; for more information, click Yes to visit our website, Ignore to no longer show this warning, or just Cancel."

Here's the text from the website: "Compatibility: If you have the AdAware option to scan inside archives enabled, AdAware may find files in the Spybot-S&D folder. Spybot-S&D does not contain any spyware, but it creates backups of everything you fix (until you remove those backups from the Recovery list), and AdAware complains about these backups. You can safely ignore these backups found by AdAware."
