Collapsed section of I-95 reopens today. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/06/23/i-95-bridge-reopening-friday/70349844007/ Amazing what people can do when they want/need to. I'm very impressed they were able to do this so quickly. Yes, it's temporary while they build the permanent structure, but still. Now if only they could do the other work on I-95 so quickly! I've been going back and forth to Philly for the last 5 years while my son was in college there and the construction was never ending. Kudos to everyone involved in this.

I have some concerns for my cousin in Encinitas. Every report on the storm had indicated most of it would be north of her, not much lower than LA. They are close to the beach. Adding: *CNN was reporting last night the weather system was slowly moving south towards San Diego. About a year ago her two adult daughters relocated from Seattle and Portland and bought a house together in Cardiff making it possible for the whole family to be involved in raising her only grandchild, little boy just now 3 1/2. I know they are bright people so will just have to assume they are taking good care of each other unless I hear otherwise 😊

No real damage but a bit of a shocker. The real fear was in downtown Toronto which is hosting the G8 and G20 summits starting tomorrow.

The security is crazy, tons of demonstrators, security fences everywhere, they thought it was a bomb! Gave the Toronto security forces a chance to do a live practice! Not funny!

But everything is fine just a little "shaky".

At least it was only 5.0, which is smaller than a lot of aftershocks I've been in. Still, it can be startling because they are seldom expected. I was inside a Santa Monica restaurant near a huge plate glass window during a 5.0 quake, and the window bulged in and out like a bubble. Fortunately, it didn't break. From what I've read so far, there are no reports of damage from this, and I would expect them to be minor, if there are any.

Did anyone else feel it?

Sharon, I'm glad you're OK, and that Toronto got a quick security drill without really having a security issue! Wow, what timing...

I'm glad to hear all is cool with you to Sharon and all of our other friends north of the 49th.

I have to say I feel for those working and or living in downtown Toronto area with the summit meetings going on. I'm sure it will be a PIA for them more so than this quake. Not mocking or anything bad towards Toronto or their test of security today.

I know it's a big deal to host these events.... to me it would be easier to have them in a more remote area away from major poplulations/traffic areas. I would think security would be easier too. Maybe it's just me??? but it does make sense to me in so many ways.

Again, glad to hear/read that everyone is okay.

I felt it outside Hartford. So small I didn't realize it was an EQ until someone told me. They ended up evacuating our building for about 45 min... a little over reaction, I expect....

I was golfing just outside the city and did not feel it at all, no damage reports on the news this morning.

David it is way more than a PITA! It is absolutely insane to have the G20 right smack in downtown Toronto. Most banks and business downtown are closed today and tomorrow, windows are bordered, statues removed, thousands of police and even more demonstrators. It's nuts!

Meredith is going to a wedding in Toronto Saturday at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The venues has been booked two years and now they have to bus in all their guests ...at their expense...becasue of security and traffic. Did I say it's nuts!!

Pu them on a cruise ship or in a mountain top resort but not downtown in Canada's largest city!

What amazes me is that I've had the news on a lot and have heard no mention of this. Just very glad everyone is okay.

Which one Beverly, the earthquake or the summit? Thank God they are both very rare in Canada!

There was structural damage to a very old church and some roads and bridges near the epi center but all in all it was pretty insignificant.

Scary becasue we have no experience with them but no serious damage.

I LOVE the idea of a cruise ship!

Sorry to hear about the wedding challenge Sharon. Man, what a PIA to the wedding party not to forget the added cost that I'm sure they were not expecting.

David , a cruise ship is the perfect answer The G8 can buy one of those huge ones outright and just sail it to the coastal waters of the hosting country..... OK Germany has a problem!

A few F18's in the air and some PT type boats in the water and all those important types are safe. Heck just to be fair minded the demonstrators can have a ship of their own and some blow horns! the cost of hosting in Toronto is over 1 billion dollars......buy a damn ship!

It is nuts what is happening in Toronto right now.....absolutely nuts.
