Hi Lrae, I am so worried. My dirt is expletive deleted and it has taken R.J. like almost an hour (I think) to dig each hole. Then I have to mix the good dirt with the best I can find of my sandy stuff, mix in the black cow and make the little mound. It's been at least an hour or more on each plant. This week we've had fires all over our area and and his father have been busy. One day the air quality was not good enough, one day he had finals and a retirment party. So today was the first day since Saturday morning that we could plant. We got about four in the ground. I have two more in the back to plant and ten in the front! I am so worried about my daylily puppies. We were planting in the dark (could not start til seven pm tonight. He was so exhausted he had to stop. I am so worried that I am planting wrong. The holes do not look completely even with the bed, but I guess we can work on that. Because of magnolia roots, there are places that I would have liked to plant to make a nice design that we have not been able to. He's been digging out big pieces of concrete (??) and weird hard white soil that is like rocks. Now we have big piles of dirt that has to go in the woods and the bed looks disgusting. waaaaa. Sorry to be a whiner. does anyone else have such problems. I have been told daylilies do not like ANY roots around. I am afraid even in the front yard bed there will be roots from the ligustrum tree, and juniper but we're digging out as best as we can. I need encouragement. I also thought we could plant all the fans in back, so took two out prematurely from their littel mound. I had to remake the temporary mounds and water them. Although I was told not to water more than once a week, I think, when I took them off their mounds it was bone day. I guess due to our windy conditions late last week and during the weekends. You may have read about our Palm Bay and Malabar, Florida fires. Thanks for listening. Lin

Nice stone-may look richer in color with a good properly applied color enhancer. Just curious as to why you don't like it. If it is because it is blotchy or spotty the application may have been incorrect. I think verde lavras is quite is quite dense so the color enhancer must go on very thin and then buff off so it feels dry. think of the honed surface as a microscopic English muffin. The color enhancer just needs to settle in the nooks and crannies. There isn't any absortion into the stone so the product must be treated as a topical sealant. It should look pretty good if applied that way. I hope that makes sense.

Warm and loving Thanksgiving wishes to our Canadian friends.

Thank you rhizo, and other American posters! I wonder if you could give me your opinion on this. When I'm listening to Americans (on t.v.) discuss what they did for Thanksgiving and for Christmas, it seems as if more people make Thanksgiving their bigger gathering, if they can't do the same for both. In Canada, I feel as though Christmas is more often the 'bigger' holiday to get together. I'd say we also have more huge shopping sales around Christmas, than Thanksgiving. Anyone care to share which holiday meal they tend to celebrate more, with others?

No real damage but a bit of a shocker. The real fear was in downtown Toronto which is hosting the G8 and G20 summits starting tomorrow.

The security is crazy, tons of demonstrators, security fences everywhere, they thought it was a bomb! Gave the Toronto security forces a chance to do a live practice! Not funny!

But everything is fine just a little "shaky".

At least it was only 5.0, which is smaller than a lot of aftershocks I've been in. Still, it can be startling because they are seldom expected. I was inside a Santa Monica restaurant near a huge plate glass window during a 5.0 quake, and the window bulged in and out like a bubble. Fortunately, it didn't break. From what I've read so far, there are no reports of damage from this, and I would expect them to be minor, if there are any.

Did anyone else feel it?

I didn't feel it here and just now heard about it.

Sharon, I'm glad you're OK, and that Toronto got a quick security drill without really having a security issue! Wow, what timing...

I'm glad to hear all is cool with you to Sharon and all of our other friends north of the 49th.

I have to say I feel for those working and or living in downtown Toronto area with the summit meetings going on. I'm sure it will be a PIA for them more so than this quake. Not mocking or anything bad towards Toronto or their test of security today.

I know it's a big deal to host these events.... to me it would be easier to have them in a more remote area away from major poplulations/traffic areas. I would think security would be easier too. Maybe it's just me??? but it does make sense to me in so many ways.

Again, glad to hear/read that everyone is okay.

I felt it outside Hartford. So small I didn't realize it was an EQ until someone told me. They ended up evacuating our building for about 45 min... a little over reaction, I expect....

Quite a novety here in Connecticut

I was golfing just outside the city and did not feel it at all, no damage reports on the news this morning.

David it is way more than a PITA! It is absolutely insane to have the G20 right smack in downtown Toronto. Most banks and business downtown are closed today and tomorrow, windows are bordered, statues removed, thousands of police and even more demonstrators. It's nuts!

Meredith is going to a wedding in Toronto Saturday at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The venues has been booked two years and now they have to bus in all their guests ...at their expense...becasue of security and traffic. Did I say it's nuts!!

Pu them on a cruise ship or in a mountain top resort but not downtown in Canada's largest city!

What amazes me is that I've had the news on a lot and have heard no mention of this. Just very glad everyone is okay.

Which one Beverly, the earthquake or the summit? Thank God they are both very rare in Canada!

There was structural damage to a very old church and some roads and bridges near the epi center but all in all it was pretty insignificant.

Scary becasue we have no experience with them but no serious damage.

I LOVE the idea of a cruise ship!

Sorry to hear about the wedding challenge Sharon. Man, what a PIA to the wedding party not to forget the added cost that I'm sure they were not expecting.

David , a cruise ship is the perfect answer The G8 can buy one of those huge ones outright and just sail it to the coastal waters of the hosting country..... OK Germany has a problem!

A few F18's in the air and some PT type boats in the water and all those important types are safe. Heck just to be fair minded the demonstrators can have a ship of their own and some blow horns! the cost of hosting in Toronto is over 1 billion dollars......buy a damn ship!

It is nuts what is happening in Toronto right now.....absolutely nuts.

Earthquake - Hope all the Canadian friends are okay!
