Oh she is a beauty! I wonder what her story is. Someone out there is heartless to have abandoned her or heartbroken because she is gone.

Just look at those eyes. Wow.

How about Orphie because she is an orphan?

Be sure to let us know how things go. You have a good heart to take her in!

How about Mignon? Tosca (she looks like a diva for sure) Mimi?(down on her luck for sure) Or Cio Cio San (looking for her lost love).
I like Cio cio San (pronounced Cho cho) because of the Asian sound....but Pitti Sing from the Mikado would be good too.
Can you tell I'm going to the opera tonight? LOL!
Linda c

How sad. I hate to think that someone actually abandoned that beautiful cat. But how lucky for her that she found you. She is gorgeous Sharon.

Ann

Oh, isn't she GORGEOUS!!! I wish I'd have a smoochy puss move in with me... was just thinking the other day it would be lovely to have a kitten but the current incumbent would NOT LIKE that ONE LITTLE BIT. So a kitten is a few years off yet...
With those beYEWdiful eyes, how about Sapphire?

What eyes. There's always Boots.
Magic. Rogue.

It's lovely that you found each other. I think her name is Azure!

Sharon,
She's gorgeous. Wish you many happy years together.
Sophia sounds good to me. Sophia Loren is also gorgeous.

Kim

She's a real beauty, enjoy. We had a Siamese 30 some years ago, Shenandoah, she was a great pet.

FWIW, keep an eye on the missing fur spot (any redness or crustiness)--if it happens to be ringworm, you'll want to have it checked by a vet and start treating it before it spreads.

Gorgeous and lucky kitty to have found you!

Our first cat and very best cat, the cat against which all other future cats was compared, was our feral Siamese. She was a challenge to tame, but once ours was absolutely irreplaceable. We named her Bibi, which means Lady.

Your blue-eyed lady is a treasure. How lucky she is to have found you.

Carol

She is lucky to have found you! What a beauty.

When I see blue eye's I think of the name Maggie ;-)

Awwww, she IS thin! Of course, Siamese are supposed to be thin, but not that thin. You're such a sweetheart for taking her in.

I like the name Sapphire, too, but I bet she tells you her name. Sweetheart was the name that came to me, because of your description of her personality, and because I must just have that word on my brain this morning. Although you have to be careful with a name like that. I named one of my cats Sweetie, because she was so sweet and I just kept calling her that - but it turned out to be the wrong name for her. She is a sweetie towards people, but she's just plain mean to my other cats, and would probably be better named B....chy. Oh well.

Congratulations on your new family memeber!

Sally

Mau-Mau? Fru-Fru? Lulu?

She's beautiful Sharon, but yikes she is skinny. Poor gal. Well she'll fatten up in no time at your house. How about calling her Omelet? LOL. for your favorite spanish omelets ya'll eat so often. I bet she'd like a piece. Smiles. Good luck to all of you. She sure knew what she was doing when she came to ya'll to be rescued.

She's a beauty, enjoy!

Coco because she's so elegant with beautiful chocolate markings; and, of course, there's the whole food thing tie in, too :>

Oh Sharon! She is a lovely little cat! When I saw the photos of her I immediately thought of Pitti Sing also (like LindaC) but if you don't want an operatic name, I can understand.

I like Sappho too - She was one of the Nine Lyric Poets and since she looks lovely and like a dreamer, I thought a poetic name might fit.

Best of luck with her - she is a beauty!

Alexa

Lucky her and lucky you Sharon. She is a sweet good lookin' little girl. Glad to see you found each other...those blue eyes are something else. I'd name her Lucky....looking forward to more pics of her hanging out in the house or backyard.

David

Azure is a great name.

I thought of Stella or along the same lines as Coco..but Channel.

Thank you everyone for tips and names!

I also love those 'blue' names and am still thinking. Linda...Wolfram had chosen Mimi before you mentioned it and Carol....I automatically call any new cat Bibi and I guess it's because when they're new I call them Baby (I know ....it's silly....'here baby come and have some dinner' etc) and Baby always evolves into Bibi.
So since I'm already saying that to her...it may just stick!
But I also love Coco...as in Chanel. It has class. :-)
But I won't give her a name until the vet confirms that she's not chipped.

I've called the vet's clinic. He wasn't there but his co-worker said he may be able to come to the house tomorrow afternoon.
He comes in his jeep....great house call service... and will bring a microchip scanner just to be sure she's not just wandered off from a loving home.
And he'll give her a checkup and tell me what to feed her as she's ravenous but also vomiting a bit.
Perhaps I should give her smaller quantities of food. I even found some cat milk for kittens and older cats at the supermarket and bought 3 bottles, since I haven't seen her drinking water.

She's advanced to lying on my desk between me and the keyboard, her tail gently brushing the mouse.

Here is a photo showing how thin she really is. It was taken two days ago after she's already been eating here for a couple of days. Poor thing.... her back is just bones.

I hope I can post some better photos in the next days of a plumper, happy cat that will be another member of our family!
I'll return and report what the vet says.
Thanks all!

SharonCb

Skinny....but her coat looks good....
perhaps you are dealing with tape worm and perhaps other parasites.
maybe you shouldn't call her Mimi....she didn't have a happy ending...
How about Kate....for Katheryn Hepburn....charismatic, elegant, witty, loving....and thin and very long lived.
Linda C

Thanks Linda...yes I've thought about that too. I have a good parasite medication that is squirted into a cat's mouth in case the vet thinks she might have that.

I don't see any signs of parasites though. Ok re the name!

SharonCb

Oh Sharon, she IS thin, poor thing.

Siamese cats always look Egyptian to me, for some reason. Cleopatra?

Annie

I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that the vet's report is good and that it's just been a long time since she had a good meal.

DH is especially gifted with feral animals (though that's not the issue with your little girl) but boy, the many and varied health issues wandering cats can have.

Isn't it amazing how cats seem to have a special sense for the "good homes?" Danny and I were just wondering if it's like the hobo signs put on fences and doors - some kitty shorthand identifying the best people to approach.

Carol

Well the vet came and checked her out. She doesn't have a microchip so that means her (former) owner is not traceable. :-)) She doesn't appear to have any signs of parasites or a tapeworm (I checked the necessary places) and so he gave me a pill for her in case she's carrying some other illness not yet visible, gave me a cream for the bald spot near her nose in case it's a fungus and told me to watch her weight.

How is it that cats know instinctively when a man who walks in with a briefcase is a vet and not someone else? Kitty was so loving towards my hubby (he didn't carry a briefcase) but the moment she saw the vet she started to run! We held her and he checked her over, as well as with the microchip detector. House call and all just for over $10 (ten Euros.)
Here she is today as she stakes out her place by my computer:

SharonCb

Oh, she is gorgeous! I'd love to cuddle her. I think vets probably have that special "vet" smell, a mixture of other animal smells (and often frightened animal smells) and disinfectant. I'm dreading taking my Mischief back this year for her shots after her last performance. You'd have thought she was a feral the way she carried on.

You might give her some canned food mixed with water. That's a good way to get more water into them. Sometimes cats are just not good about drinking enough water. Also, I don't know what's available where you live, but there are tubes of high calorie supplement designed for cats. The tubes look like toothpaste tubes. You can squeeze some out onto a plate and see if she'll eat it.

Do you have any other cats? Did the vet do any blood work? If you have any other cats I'd recommend keeping them separated until you're sure she doesn't have any diseases.

Sally

When I saw her I was so afraid she had feline lieukemia like a little kitten my DD tried to save last week. I'm so glad she doesn't and that you have saved her. She is very beautiful and looks like one I had named Coco. I will have to say mine was very high strung though.

Sharon, yes she is thin, but oh so beautiful! Glad to hear she has a clean bill of health.

Others have offered up some really great names. Only one from my list that would fit her is Rio.

Linda

Oh my, is she pretty! And I am happy to see she is healthy, just way too skinny. Kitten chow for her!

While feline lieukemia can be fatal, don't worry if she has it show up. My Shadow had it when we took him in, also very thin and sick with an upper respertory, but nursed him back to health. He was with us for 22 years after that!

Now, does she have a name yet? We all know she is not going anywhere other than your laps......

Sharon she is so sweet! Makes you wonder how anyone could desert her.

Have you settled on a name? I thought of the musical CATS when I saw her and heard her story (don't ask me why!) so how about Cassandra or Victoria after two of the female cats in CATS.

Cassandra is my favourite.

How I love those beautiful names! I wish I could use them all, but I always think how easy it is to call that name when I want her to come in out of the garden, or out from under the bed!
I think it's going to be BIBI.

Here Bibi, here Bibi, Bibi, Bibi... is so easy to say, although at the moment she sits on my computer desk so I don't have to go looking for her!
She already sticks her head lovingly inside my shoes in the bedroom....so I guess she's happy with her new mom, LOL.

Peppi....that is a record old age....22 years! I have had feline leukemia (like AIDS in cats) in just about all my cats and the vet has said that it's almost impossible to find cats on this island who have not been infected. But at the same time mine have lived to about 15 years of age even with that ailment, which only showed up when they were old and too weak to resist some infection such as a respiratory disease. So this little cat appears healthy and I hope she'll be happy here. She has her own little garden off my computer room where the feral cat Tigger doesn't go so she has her own territory outside as well as inside.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments. (I also love Cassandra as name!) Photos of her as she gets plumper will come from time to time. :-D

SharonCb

I keep thinking about what you said regarding vacationers who abandon their pets when they go on holiday. Hearing that makes me sick to my stomach.

Cats have been our companions for thousands of years; they don't return seamlessly to the wild. I'd like to put her previous owners out on the streets to see how they like that existence.

I am so glad your cat has found her proper name. Whatever is given, she will return a thousand times in affection, company and grace.

Carol

Carol...thank you for your comment. Sadly I have to say that there are worse situations here sometimes when people want to go away on summer holiday.

There are cases where old people have also been abandoned. Grandpas and grandmas with Alzheimers have been discovered sitting on a park bench with a sports bag full of clothing, left to whomever might find and look after them. Of course that makes the national news. I don't know how often that happens here in the islands but it has been seen on mainland Spain.

However the quantity of dogs and cats abandoned at summer vacation time here is shocking. The animal refuges are already full of abandoned animals and at this time they are desperate for both space and money to feed them. It is nearly always the foreign residents who take it upon themselves to volunteer to work, clean cages, raise money through raffles and entertainment gigs in bars etc. to try and keep these refuges afloat. Often the local authorities turn a blind eye and don't help when it comes to looking after lost and abandoned animals.

The Germans are very helpful and have a rescue system for abandoned dogs and after caring for them here and getting them back in shape, they fly them to new homes in Germany. It costs just over $30 per dog to fly them to Germany. But my British friends and acquaintances are always doing something to help, whether it be bringing in books and old clothes to sell at raffles, or as in the case of my friend Lynne, spending every Saturday morning for years washing blankets and cleaning potty trays at a local cat refuge. I do have to admire these folks for being so selfless. My small contribution is in taking in any stray or feral who wanders into our garden. Always room for one more at our house! :-)

SharonCb

She is so beautiful. Have you named her officially yet? Bibi? How about Lily? Coco is a good name too. She looks like a Coco (Channel, think most extravagent looking), or brown like cocoa.

Sharon, What a sad situation that you shared about the abandoned pets. We had a guy in my area who went to Las Vegas for two weeks and left his two dogs in the bathroom of his apartment. One didn't make it, and of course, the other was critical.

My Buster Frank is a Bermin and has the same colors as your new baby. Buster was so pretty that it was hard to believe that he was abandoned. He has certainly had a good life to the point of sleeping on top of me every night and I don't have the heart to push him off. I've had him for 14 years.

Thank you for taking her in.

Ah Sharon. There is a special place in heaven for animal rescuers, I'm sure!

Rob she's now a Bibi. I love all the other names but since she's been here I've sort of been calling her "Baby" and that's evolved to Bibi, so she comes when I call her.

She is having stomach troubles though and is still vomiting occasionally and has a hard time keeping food down. I've found some high quality dry food and am giving her very small doses and it has calmed her down somewhat, but I may have to call the vet again today or tomorrow to see if she has some digestive ailment that we didn't spot.

In case she needs to be under observation, the vet has a clinic together with two others where he can keep cats for days at a time and he will also pick up and deliver a pet.
I'm lucky with that service, I know.

Thanks for comments all.

Sharoncb

Sharon, my own feral cat, Cinder, AKA the Dead Cat from He!!) has always had digestive problems, still vomits if she eats too much or too quickly. The vet told me it was a side effect of her being so malnourished that her jaw is malformed. You can see her two front fangs hanging over her bottom lip like a vampire. Since she's a black cat it's kind of scary, LOL.

The result is that she doesn't (or maybe can't) chew so carefully and if she gobbles down her food she ends up with problems. She also seems to have a bigger problem with hairballs (which always end up on my light colored living room carpet, sigh).

However, she's fat, happy and otherwise relatively healthy, and she's 12 now so I guess it's not going to change.

Good luck to Bibi, hopefully her digestive ills are so easily dealt with.

Annie

Thanks Annie...
I'm taking it very easy and just giving her tiny amounts of food now and letting her eat outside on the patio as the carpet in my computer room has been hit too many times now. But I'm keeping a close eye on her and will try again with that kitty milk I bought. I think at the moment very small amounts of food not too often is the best and if it doesn't change, then I'll make another call to the vet.
