Strange message from AOL email....

I sent an email to a friend who uses AOL. I got a strange reply back immediately. I used my Gmail account to send it and also my old AOL account to be sure she received it.

RE: sick (my subject to her) :)) Automatic Response

Rushe3ybreana.myvnc.com (as a hyperlink)

What could this be?

look at the full header on the emails. This link has the instructions for most email clients on how to view full headers.
Message headers

do not click on any hyperlink it could be a phising attack or lead you to an infected site.

Do you have WOT installed if not I urge you to do that it will indicate with green, yellow and red circles if links or sites are safe to visit, you can add it to your browser, both IE and Firefox can use it.

I looked at the "full header" and it's a page of stuff. How can one determine if it's a concern?

I do know not to click on hyperlinks like that but I worry about all her other friends who write to her who don't know that. What advice can I give her other than to send an email to everyone who might contact her today/tomorrow etc and alert them?

She did say she just deleted about 1,000 emails, could that have anything to do with it?

Is this just a random act and not likely to happen again or might it continue to happen when I email her?

I don't know WOT but will look into it and most likely install it as I trust any advice you give.

I checked the computer help forum and didn't see it there, so . . . Did it have an attachment? If so, is it possible that you're exceeding the size limit at AOL? Is there some sort of virus scanner at AOL that may be stripping the email out because of the attachment? Do you have a SPAM folder on AOL, or SPAM filtering that could be incorrectly identifying it as SPAM? Can you temporarily turn off the SPAM filter at AOL? Is there any message from Google that gives any indication as to why it didn't go to AOL?

Peg, I don't know how it started. I think most people my email was returned, or they did not open it after I posted on all my visiting forums. This week 4 people from the brugmansia forum have had their email hacked. The latest email is asking for $2500, to help pay a hotel bill in the UK. You usually don't even know until somone sends you an email. I saw pages and pages of returned emails, scared me to death. Thanks to a friend of mine telling me to run the security check. I went to McAfee, it said your computer is security, no action required. I ran the security check anyway. It found 4 virus files and tracking cookies. I am so glad I did. So far no more problems. Same thing happened to me a while back. It's a computer hacker from China. He somehow got into my (previous) Hotmail account and started sending everyone on my email list, emails that sounded like they were from me! He made it sound like I was suggesting they try out his wonderful site in China to buy things. Hotmail and MSN were extremely worthless in helping me get rid of it. Frankly, it seemed to me that they could care less, despite numerous emails to them. I finally closed all my accounts with them and moved to Comcast, which has much better security. But, the bottom line is that they stole my email list and continue to send emails to my family & friends every so often. Talk about creepy! I feel for you and hope you can stop it. Let me know if you do, but definitely make sure your computerfiles haven't been compromised any more! Lynn

Yep, erased the saved PW2 and tried to send an email, was offered a chance to inter PW1 and the transmission of the email went. Checking Options/security I don't find PW1 saved, I may need to click on "save password" on the next use. Thanks, this comphelp has been helpful as always.
