Pull out 'spice' like cabinet in master bath?

My KD is trying to talk me into one of these 12 inch width cabinets in my master bathroom. I have an 85 inch space and plan on doing from left to right 15in drawers, a 21 cabient, this 12 inch cabinet in middle, and then 21 in, then the 15in drawers again. It will be standard height ?30 inches tall and would give maybe three levels inside.these are usually on the cooktop range areas, for anone still confused.

Does anyone have one of these and if so, so you like it or is it annoying to have to reach under the top shelf to reach the second?

What about pictures?

there are many of these type of cabinets, can you post a picture or link of what you're talking about specifically?

Here is a pic of ours. We have "spice" cabinets on each end of the vanity area. It is one of my favorite things about the remodel. In the morning, I can just pull out the shelves and have most everything I need. Then it just slides in and out of sight. The slides are full extension which makes it easy to reach anything. Normally, the middle cabinet would not be open like it is in the pic.

I have 3 inch spice pullouts. They are TINY, not big enough for wraps or foils for sure. Even certain spice brands don't fit in there. A McCormicks bottle fits but not my vanilla bottle or pepper grinder. I can fit a can of PAM in there but it lays across the top of the sides of the shelf. They are really small-really only suitable for spices or tylenol (one of my spice poullouts is my medication/first aid cabinet since my kids are bigger now). My 6 inch pullouts are much more useful-I was considering doing the same as you but ended up with 6 inch fillers on each side of the fridge.

What if you did a blind corner pullout instead of the 15" cabinet & super susan to the right of the range? (See link below) You could have the cabinet people make the cabinet front into a faux set of drawers to visually match the drawers on the left side of the range to get your symmetry. The door would be hinged on the right and open toward the sink wall. My Mom did this in almost the exact same scenario at the corner (- the faux drawer front) & it works great. Then you could also have a bigger spice pullout next to the sink. We have a large spice pullout (15" wide & 3 tiers) & it holds our salt, pepper, cooking oil, non-stick spray, flavorings, spices, sprinkles, etc. I don't think they called it a spice pullout though--maybe an undercounter pullout pantry? Ours does have a faux front with a drawer over cabinet look to make it symmetrical with the other side of the range. I would see about changing the exterior of the spice pullout to look like a cabinet vs. a column as there is no matching column on the other side of the sink which makes it look awkward & out of place to me. Unless you're going with a large D-shaped sink, I would be tempted to eliminate the cabinet on the end of the sink run, slide the DW down to the end & enlarge the sink to a 36" base that would allow for a very nice size double sink. I had a spice pull-out on my upper cabinets in my old kitchen, and it wasn't useful. The main problem was that a pull out that high was hard to see. It would have been much easier to see into a cabinet by either climbing on a cabinet or stool. The problem with a pull out at that height is that you can't see the top shelves very easily. This is hard for me to describe, but do a mock up of it and I think you'll get it. That said, I would not to let 4.5 in. go to waste in a small kitchen. You may get more use out of a regular door (rather than the rack.) That would still allow you to put spices inside or anything else. The benefit of a door rather than a pull out is that once you get to eye-level (by climbing on something!) you can see in quite easily. You could also shelves to create a vertical cabinet for a few trays. You'd be surprised at how much you can store in a small space.

I have the same thing and if there was an error in installation it was mine, because I installed it. :) One thing I considered was how level the floor is. My floor is not completely level not being a newer house, but the floor tends to drop off at tad rather than get higher, so I didn't have as much of a problem as I could have. I only have a little rub if I pull it fully out the last few inches and if I lift slightly it doesn't rub at all. I think I might try the felt pad on the bottom, though, just to be sure. In my case, I have a very chunky turn post attached to mine, and I am really afraid of cutting it. It would be expensive to replace and I am afraid it would show too much. I think I would prefer to shave a quarter inch off the bottom if it looks like it will be a problem long term. Of coarse, I don't have any kids at home who might forget and just drag it across the floor. :) Strange effect in this photo, the top of the turn post is stained dark just like the rest of the post and cabinets, but it looks unfinished here. I plan to get a longer piece to put behind the turn post and I think it will look better. A wheel under the turn post would be too visible for me and I think it would still cause wear in the spot it rolled over all the time, eventually. Yours isn't as chunky, so attaching the bottom portion to the cabinet might work, but I wonder if the cut will be at exactly the right spot on the filler if you cut it just below the pullout or will it matter? Please post pictures when you have it done. Lots of people are using these and any solutions will probably help lots of people. Sue

We used 12" base pullouts from Ikea, and the full-height door has a handle up top but is attached to the bottom pullout, so you never have to reach under a pulled-out drawer to get to one beneath it. You might want to consider configuring the door that way.

Thanks for the suggestins but I am doing a semi-custom cabinet line, flyleft.

these are differnet than drawers becuase the whole thing opens versus just one drawer at a time. I am just unsure.

Lucy cakes, yours is nice!!!! I thought from my KD that it was an all or nothing open. Meaning the door opens and is connected to all three shelves.

I didn't think you would be necessarily using Ikea, teddas, esp. since you're going with a KD; just thought I'd contribute that we do have something similar and like it, since you'd asked. I'll know in the future that you exclude Ikea from your consideration of "having" a cabinet.

I have two in my kids bathroom. They have two shelves and attach to the cabinet front so they both pull out at the same time. I love them. they are great for all the product we use like hairspray, lotions, hairproducts etc that typically get all jumbled in drawers or left on the counters. I loved them so much that we are in the process of remodeling our master and I made sure our cabinet maker made one for there too. It helps keep things off the counter, but organized and accessible. Since they are not too wide things don't shift around too much either. I mounted a 7" bar pull towards the top of the cabinet front so that it is a comfortable handle to pull it out with and I hang my hand towels from it as well. Mine are 9" pull outs not 12" though. Hope this helps.

The pullouts on our vanities remind me of a spice rack. They're about 3" deep and are spaced far enough apart (farther apart than those pictured on the linked page) to hold tall bottles of hairspray, lotion, etc. Each shelf has a rail to hold everything in place. I think they're a great compliment to standard drawers.

Pullouts are better for holding bottles (especially spray bottles) that could leak because they keep everything in an upright position. They make it easier to find things too because you can see everything at a glance without rumaging through a drawer.

I added clear acrylic flatware/drawer organizers to my pullouts so I could use them for smaller items (e.g. make up, hair ties, nail clippers) too.
