I have a 9" pullout, also, although it is an in-cabinet pullout, and you do loose a lot of room. It does make the space left much more accessible, though. The inside usable space dimensions would be very helpful. I have looked everywhere and not been able to find them. If anyone has the measurement, PLEASE post it. I am sure it would help a lot of people considering these pullouts. I would want the upper spice pullout only for the small jars and rectangular tins, of which they make very few any more. So most would be the small round jars. I can keep my larger spices in the upper cabinet next to the pullout. The smaller ones tend to get lost though, and hard to find without emptying out the spice cabinet. I designed away my corner lazy susan that I used in my old kitchen that kept them relatively accessible, in favor of a glass front lighted cabinet. I measured my spices and the tins are 1 1/4 inches wide, the McCormick small glass jars are 1 1/2 inches and the McCormick small plastic jars are 1 3/4 inches wide. Small extracts are about 1 inch wide to 1 1/4 inch wide. So 1 3/4 inches are plenty to make it functional for me, since not all my spices would fit in the upper one anyway. I love the idea of the peg board, but with no solution for my spices I am not sure if that would be most useful if I can only have one. On the other hand, I know I would rather not be bending down or kneeling on the floor to find the most frequently used ones. The peg board might let me get rid of the on the counter utensil holder, which would leave a nicer, cleaner and less clutter look. If I went with a lower spice pullout, it would probably just house the less frequently used items. Then I would keep just my favorites in the upper cabinet. Anyway, I need to decide soon. If anyone has the inside dimensions or can show how they were installed in an upper filler with wide moldings over it, it would be immensely helpful. Ordering them and returning them is not an option since there are steep restocking fees as well as shipping to pay. I would only get about 50% back if I had to return one. Sue

What if you did a blind corner pullout instead of the 15" cabinet & super susan to the right of the range? (See link below) You could have the cabinet people make the cabinet front into a faux set of drawers to visually match the drawers on the left side of the range to get your symmetry. The door would be hinged on the right and open toward the sink wall. My Mom did this in almost the exact same scenario at the corner (- the faux drawer front) & it works great. Then you could also have a bigger spice pullout next to the sink. We have a large spice pullout (15" wide & 3 tiers) & it holds our salt, pepper, cooking oil, non-stick spray, flavorings, spices, sprinkles, etc. I don't think they called it a spice pullout though--maybe an undercounter pullout pantry? Ours does have a faux front with a drawer over cabinet look to make it symmetrical with the other side of the range. I would see about changing the exterior of the spice pullout to look like a cabinet vs. a column as there is no matching column on the other side of the sink which makes it look awkward & out of place to me. Unless you're going with a large D-shaped sink, I would be tempted to eliminate the cabinet on the end of the sink run, slide the DW down to the end & enlarge the sink to a 36" base that would allow for a very nice size double sink. I suspect you're looking at the minimum cabinet opening. That means the actual opening, not the cabinet size. An 18" cabinet has 2 side walls that take away from the opening. If you have face framed cabinets, you also lose some additional space from the frame. For example... If the walls of your cabinet are 3/4", then in a frameless cabinet you lose approx 1-1/2" in the opening (3/4" + 3/4") So, 18" - 1-1/2" = 16-1/2" cabinet opening If you face framed cabinets w/a 1-1/2" frame, you lose 3" from the opening (1-1/2" + 1-1/2") So, 18" - 3" = 15" cabinet opening

Thanks, Lisa--it took long enough! The designing, that is. Like a year or more. I like the second picture a lot. The cabinet hardware is casual and the same color as the boards, so it all does look finished and intentional. The first picture is more formal of the cabinets, but the books and oatmeal make it more casual. The boards would look fine as they are, all a-tilt, if the cabinet were finished. As it is, it looks like the door is missing. If that opening were trimmed out flush with the doors/drawer fronts, it would look vastly better. The second one doesn't have that issue because the cabinets are inset. I think it will function for you just fine. But...don't you have a 4.5" gap? Or is that without considering the box? I thought you meant a 4.5" space within the box like SJHF, which is why I was encouraging you to do a pullout. If it's 4.5" including the box, and therefore a 3" gap, you're right that the open space makes the most sense, with or without a door. (I had one with door in a previous kitchen and it was right handy. )
