Mechanical Mouse on Mac?

I'm using an optical mouse on an iMac for the first time and for me it just sucks*. I'd very much like to try my Microsoft wheel mouse. From the net I see I will need either a PS2 to USB adaptor or a PS@ to USB converter.

Which is it?

Do I dare use a MS mouse on an Apple machine?

* I don't like the response and it aggravates an old wrist injury. The Ms mouse doesn't; so its no small thing.

I'd remove this thread if it was possible. Hope it dies off soon. I found the answwer.

Thank you. There was no restore defaults option but I moved the selection from image moves all the time, to image moves when the edge is touched. Much better. Thanks again! I wonder how that happened? I would have never found the mouse setting without your help.
