We are planning wood couter tops in our new bathroom. I'm going to get some Oak ones from Ikea (in the kitchen dept) and then put on loads of sealer.

I'd love to here about anyone's experience.

I've just started on our bathroom remodel and our inspiration was "Mongoct" bathroom that has a wood counter top. Do a search of this forum using "Mongoct" and you will find a photo of what I think is one of the nicest bathrooms on this forum.

Gosh you are so right - thats a great bathroom. And the sink I have chosen is very similar.

I don't have wood counters in the batroom, but I do have wide pine floors. I also just bought the Oak counters at Ikea that I will be sealing with Waterlox.

Fourteen years ago when we built our house, I couldn't afford the granite that I wanted in the bathroom. The cabinetmaker made me wood countertops that match the cabinets on the thinking that they were cheap, would look nice, and after I trashed them we would replace them. Well, they are still there and still look beautiful. I am currently building a second home and I will put wood counter tops in my master bath again based on the beauty, price, and liveability of my current cherry tops.

We used a slab of reclaimed old growth cedar as a unique countertop with a hand blown glass sink in one of our offices:

We paid about $500 for this slab.

In our master bath, we have two Wm. Garvey teak wood vessels. These are incredible sinks and look the same today as when we installed them 4 years ago. Just soap and water clean up and some teak oil about once a year. I've put a link to the website where we bought them.

We had a nice custom vanity made for our guest bath in our last house that was knotty-alder with a beautiful wood top. We got tons of compliments on it and it wasn't any more difficult to maintain than a standard stone countertop.

And, just fyi, it cost me only $150 more than buying a mid-price pre-assembled vanity from a big box store. When we sold the house, it was one of the items that the new buyers flipped over.

15 years ago we put a thick golden oak stained 'red oak' top on our 36" bath cabinet. It actually held up very well. The poly finish did start to wear in areas down to the bare wood after about 8 years but I simply refinished with some new poly.
