Adding Video To DVD

I have a very short video on a DVD+RW. I used Sonic. I tried to add more video to the DVD, again using Sonic but get a message that the disk is not blank. Is there a way to add more video to that DVD?

You're creating a DVD that will play in a DVD player like one connected to the TV, right? If so, you can't add to the existing DVD the way you're thinking. You'd need to copy the existing video to your hard drive, blank out the DVD+RW and create a new DVD project with both movies.

Yes, it's a home video that will play on a DVD player. I copied it to my hard drive. It copied as a folder with 5 files within it. I can't seem to import it into Sonic, either as the whole folder or parts. Any advice?

A quick note to say that DVDflick worked. I got the video's made - just in a nick of time (bc. I have a full day conference tomorrow). Now my daughter can bring her friend the videos (and scrapbook). DVDflick was amazingly easy compared to other things I tried. Once on the program, I printed the 6 page guide - which explained most of what I needed to know. Two things I had to figure out myself - and am posting here for others who may try this. 1 - on the Configure your Project tab, there are settings for video. If you want to change the resolution/file size (as I did to fit a 45 minute video on a standard dvd), you can adjust the bit rate). 2 - I would recommend on the burning settings (also under configure your project tab), choose to have it burn it to dvd, and verify, and eject. The first dvd I made I only selected burn it and verify. It burned it - ejected, reinserted and played it. But then the dvd tray was locked and couldn't be opened. This is somewhat frequent occurence with disc burning software - which wants to prevent you from accidentally opening the tray before it's done. The only way I could open the tray was to shut the computer, and hit the open disk tray button as it was rebooting. The next video I made, I selected eject when done - and it ejected it. For a while I thought the tray was broken - and tried the usual methods to release - like the paper clip in the tiny hole near the tray. And going to my computer, d:, eject disk. Nothing worked bc. the software was preventing it. Once my disk was ejected - and the software closed, the open and close tray works fine with other programs. Thanks so much. This was a great program. Just curious if convertxtodvd would get me additional features. I can see burning many dvd's for people (we seem to be the videographers of many social gatherings and I'd like to give dvd's to people who were part of the plans). DVDflick worked great - but I don't mind paying a little if it gets me more features. Any thoughts? Thanks so much. You saved me. Lynn.

How well does it do with dropped frames and out-of-sync audio. I can't seem to overcome that problem with my TV tuner card. On long video captures, I get out-of-sync audio. If you have irreplaceable video tapes I would go with a standalone DVD recorder. If these are movies you have I would get a DVD burner for the computer and rent each movie and copy it. It is much easier this way and much better quality. Pooh Bear

JVC model XV-S500, DVD player Disks play, but video goes black for a few seconds and then returns. This occurs randomly and for different lengths of time during playback Audio does not stop; and when the video resumes it is clear and sharp. Switched disks and had the problem with every disk that we tried to play. Checked the component output cables and all are tight and work when put on a different source. Thanks for your help. I Need Help Getting a PhotoStory3 Video to a DVD

I've never used PhotoStory but found these instructions online. Make sure your computer has a DVD burner and that it is working. If the instructions below don't work, open Nero (which I also don't use) and create a copy by dragging the file into a new burn project window. Other than that, can't help you much. Good luck. Insert a blank recordable DVD into your DVD burner. On the Save your story page, click Save your story for playback on your home DVD player. Click Next to temporarily save the photo story. On the Completing Photo Story for Windows page, click Continue and save your story to a DVD for playback on your home DVD player. In the Create a DVD dialog box, do the following: * In the DVD Title box, type a title for your DVD. * In the Video Title box, type a title for the photo story video. * If you have more than one DVD burner installed on your computer, make sure that you choose the correct DVD burner. Click Create DVD. The time it takes to save the story to DVD is determined by the overall performance of your computer system, the length of your story, and the recording speed of your DVD burner. In the Disc Create Complete dialog box, click No to close the dialog box, If you want, save the project for your story. To save the project, click Save Project, and then in the File name box, type a name for your project, and then click Save. By saving the project for your story, you can later open the project in Photo Story 3 and make additional changes, and then save it to your computer or save it to another recordable DVD.

Hmm. If I remember correctly, one of the VOB files is really an MP4. I'd look for the largest VOB file and rename it MP4, then try to watch it. If it works, use that file as the video for the new DVD.

I clicked on one of the files and can watch it, but when I click on Add Video in Sonic, nothing happens.

Did you rename it and play it or play the VOB? I think you'll have to rename it. Also, I think it's mpeg, not MP4.

I didn't rename it, just clicked on one of the files in the folder and choose Windows Media Player to open it. Should I rename the main folder or the files within? Hate to sound dense but what do I rename them? Appreciate your help.

You need to change the extension on the vob file to mpeg or mpg. So if it's file1.vob (for example) change it to file1.mpg or file1.mpeg.

I changed the file name, now when I clock on add files in sonic the mpeg files don't show up.

When I make DVD's to play in my DVD player - I have to "create a DVD". I cannot just place files on it and have it play.

I also have to "capture" the video, not just copy the files onto my computer.

I have an older version of Sonic that I use. THe part of the program that I use to create playbable DVD's is called My DVD

Once the DVD project is done, I cannot add more to it. I can add many different video chapters while I am creating it, but not after it is finalized.

Some DVD players will not recognize DVD-RW also.

The video that I had on the DVD+RW was one that I created using Sonic My DVD, it's also an older version that came with my computer, 4 or 5 yrs old. I wanted to add to the DVD instead of just creating a new one b/c I want to keep the # of disks to a minimum. I "copied" the video onto my computer from the DVD+RW but when I tried to "add files" using the Sonic My DVD the files wont import. Don't know if I'm explaining all of this correctly.
