How about our friends in Texas?

I'm glad to hear that CFers in the southeast are okay after the terrible tornado damage.

But has anyone heard if the wildfires in Texas have affected our members there?

They were all west of me. I don't know about some of the other members, but I'm thinking most live south of most of the fires.

The fires were very bad, and sadly killed at least two fire fighters, not to mention destroying dozens of homes. I did have a customer that has a friend that's a rancher in that area. He had to open the gates to his ranch so that the cattle could escape.

I saw on the news that Texas is having a drought and March was the driest on record for decades. I'm sure hoping you guys get some rain, that's for sure, to help with the fires and everything else.

Those big ranches cover thousands of acres, I can't imagine trying to move that many cattle out of harms way.

I just got back from Rockport today, and we were flooding. My yard had been underwater for days, I had to bale out water from the laundry room, everything was floating. I had to remove the bricks from around my flowerbeds and dig trenches. I cannot believe all the flooding around the Corpus Christi area. Today coming home IH_37 was under water before the 188 exit. Nothing on this was on the news. I watched the weather channel, and nothing. Last Saturday Linda, came over to take pictures of the white hummingbird in my yard, she said we already had over 10 inches of rain, not including Saturday. It has rained almost every day since then. I was down for 3 weeks, and this last week was a nightmare. I am glad I was there, the water was at least 5 inches deep in my flowerbeds, I removed the bricks and dug trenches so the water could escape. I was soaked, but I think I might have saved some of my plants. Today when I left some of my new plants had lost their leaves, and the datura actually looked like they had been fried. I will go back next weekend, no telling what I will find. Three weeks ago I planted some new giant elephant ears, today they actually looked yellow, I sure hope they make it. My best friends are the girls I have known since childhood. Vicki, Kathy, Mary, Marilyn and Donna. Mary lived next door, Vicki and Kathy down the block, Marilyn around the corner and Donna I met the first day of Grade 9. She was the only one in the class who had a dress on. LOL I am close to all of them but they aren't necessarily close with each other. Vicki and I are close, Kathy and I are close, Marilyn and Mary are close, Kathy is Godmother to Mary's oldest. Marilyn has been close to each of us at different times but we all get along and a few times a year Mary has all of us over and sometimes Mary will only have Vicki, Kathy and I over. I spend most of my time with Vicki, Kathy and Donna. Vicki was with me at my Mom's bedside when she passed away and held my Mom's hand. Kathy's Mom just passed away a few weeks ago and I was really close to Kathy's Mom. Kathy's Dad called me his "adopted daughter" after my own Dad passed away. Kathy would say I was closer to her Dad than she was. He liked to tell stories and I liked to listen. LOL Mary's Mom is 91 years old and when she sold her house next door I missed her terribly. She is still going strong and I talked with her last week at Kathy's Mom's funeral. Donna knows Kathy from Grade school and knows Vicki through me. They are just acquaintances and know each other through me. Vicki's Mom used to be friends with my oldest sister since they grew up on the same street so Vicki's Mom has a picture of me and Vicki when we were just babies. All the girls are married except Kathy and I and still have good marriages. Marilyn met her husband Doug when we were in highschool and "had" to get married. LOL Those were some trying times. Mary's husband Mark was the boy around the corner - our paperboy and we always knew Mary and Mark would end up together since we were kids. Mary was Bucky and Mark was Duck. LOL Kathy was Moo, I was Higgy, Vicki was Druke and Marilyn was Armie. Kathy's Mom called me Higgy right up until the week she died. One day I will post pictures of us now that I have this laptop and once I get a scanner. We had such a good time growing up together and they will be my best friends 'til the day I die. Anne

ohhhh Ok I see him now! he is just a few feet from Bongo to the left of bongo and you can just barely see his um face poking through the flowers, his slight different shade of um green gave him away! Timrek the Gorf! Man that sure looks like a yellow duck over there by the other star leg LOL maybe someone hid one there! by the way where is that located I know I have been where that big Texas star is.

True, you did not bother to check facts: http://www.lao.ca.gov/Publications/Report/3507 CA is the 6th largest economy in the world by GDP: "...Earlier this month, the state of California's GDP passed that of France to become the sixth largest in the world. The country just ahead of California, in fifth place, is the United Kingdom, where last year's GDP totaled about $2.85 trillion according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF)." - Jun 24, 2016 TX GDP was 10th in 2016 but I can't find any budget forecasts for 2017/2018, nothing on-line yet on their website. Still a very respectable showing, especially in view of the collapse of oil prices over the last two years. It is forecasted that should the US economy continue to improve, CA will surpass the U.K. to move into 5th place. One reason the budget has been so tight under Brown: he's insisted upon building up reserves for a "rainy day" fund. The reserves are estimated to reach $11.6 BILLION in 2017.

My parents are slightly east of I35 and therefore east of the major fires (as well as south, I believe), but they are having a terrible dought and my father has to haul water to his cows every day, which means my mother has to do the driving since DF is legally blind and is on medication for Parkinson's. The drought is a slow disaster, compared to the fires and tornados. I think DF needs to do a rain dance, which he would if he knew how.

A warehouse burned last week in Temple, which is close to where my parents live and where DM used to go to church, until that burned down. Both of those fires were probably arson, however.

In North Central Texas and Northeast Texas, we've had rain all day today, and some yesterday. It's been very cool, too, way cooler than May usually is. Our high today was maybe 52 degrees. I made chile yesterday, and am making roasted vegetable soup today. I'm loving it. It feels like November! However, there's still so much of Texas that isn't getting the rain, and who knows when we'll see more. The drought is terrible.

It is as dry as I have ever seen it in the Texas panhandle. Worst drought conditions and no hope of any for the next 10 days. Every day is windy and I mean windy and every day is high fire alert. We've had small fires around us that the fire dept. got put out, but there have been some bad ones that burned many, many acres and many homes and barns. Please pray that we get rain soon, it is getting very serious!

Trixie, I was wondering about you. I wasn't sure where you were in relation to the fire areas. If only the rain that's swelling the Mississippi would go to Texas instead. The destruction in Alabama and other southeastern states seemed to take the attention away from the threats in Texas.

Lars, I hope your parents' farm gets rain soon.
Sally, I'm glad your area is safe.
I know May is all the way down in Houston.
