I met my best friend on a cross state bicycle ride. At the time, we lived 100+ miles apart, but when ever the opportunity arose, we would go on a bike ride together. Later, we lived 30 miles apart, then 120+, then 110+, and now just 17 miles.

We go on lots of rides, even bicycle tours together. We talk about everything except sex. LOL

I don't know of many other male female best friend sets, that even finishes each others sentences.

I have two best friends. One I met when I was 7 years old and she was 5 or 6. Both our dads were in the Navy and our brothers used to hang out together too. She moved clear across the country after a year or year and a half, and we kept in contact through letters. I didn't see her again until I was a 16 or 17 and she came to visit. But, through those years we would write letters and send each other taped cassettes with music and us talking. We see each other now every 5-10 years.

The other friend I met when I was in 6th grade. She was a friend of a friend. I'm still friends with the other friend, only we aren't as close anymore. We e-mail occationally and when I go back home we usually see each other.

Cmama, you have some interesting posts. Thank you. I have had three best friends in my life and all of them have died. I sure miss being able to call one of them and just gab, or to have someone to go out to lunch with. Dottie

We've been best friends for 36 years. We were

We have just stayed best friends. We don't have to

I love my BFF we met in 2000 and immediately became confidants. Another BFF lives in Austin. We met in California in 1989. We talk at least once a week.

Two other BFF's live near me and we have known each other all of our lives. I know their Cousins and Aunts/Uncles and Grandparents. We are part of their Families.

Ever since you posted this, I've had the earworm "People let me tell you about my best friend" from Courtship of Eddie's Father running through my head. lol

I have two BFF's.
I met Linda in 5th grade and we lived about three blocks from each other. We remain best friends and keep in touch on an almost daily basis even thought she lives 125 miles away.
I met Alice when we were freshmen in high school in our journalism class. We are opposites but that is what makes our friendship so strong. She moved to Arkansas right after high school but we kept in touch for a long time. And then we lost track. When DH and I were in Arkansas we called her parents and she was on her way home for the weekend....so we surprised her. It was like we had never been apart.
She now lives in Arizona and we keep in touch almost daily, too. Thank goodness for the Internet.
I had another friend from grade school (kindergarten) and I was heartbroken when she died. It felt like a piece of me went with her. RIP Dorothy.

The loss of a good friend is one of the most difficult thing about aging. I, too, have lost dear friends. To you "young" KT'ers, cherish every moment with friends and know how lucky you are to still have them in your lives. I miss you Bobbi and Susan.

I have two very best friends. One I met in 1976 and she has moved to other parts of the country, but we talk on the phone once a week. The other one was my last next door neighbor that I had known since 1970. I dearly love my best friends and let them know each time we talk.

I have 2 best friends too.

One I met when I was 5 and we are still friends at 50! We email each other every day and get together once a month to shop and have lunch.

The other I met when we were both waitresses at the same restaurant and our children were toddlers. We are very different personality wise - she is crazy and fun and I am more laid back, but we think alike on so many things. We usually get together once a weeks for drinks.

I've known my best friend since first grade. We live about 300 miles away from each other but talk on the phone at least a few times a week. We are really different in alot of ways, but I always feel comfortable talking to her about anything. No matter what we are always there for each other when it matters most. Her little boy had a life threatening illness last year and I rented a car and was out the door in twenty minutes to go spend 18 hours a day at the hospital with her for a week. I would do anything for her and I know she would do the same for me. She's the best.

When we moved to Ethiopia (Army) we had to stay in the Nyala Hotel for a month waiting for quarters. We wanted to live on base and there were limited quarters available. Mike had a friend who was moving into a house down town. I knew them and really liked his wife so decided I would help them get settled. I was a 25 year old mother of a 2 year old at the time and pretty shy if you will believe that.

The military had what they called the "city bus" that traveled around the city of Asmara picking up military dependants. It traveled from the main base (track E ) weaving itÂs way around and over to a housing area (track A) and then back to the main base.

On this particular day I hopped on the bus and was headed over to my friends. A black lady got on the bus at Track A and we started up a conversation. She was telling me about things to do, which I was very interested in being new there. When it came time for me to get off she got off too. We discovered that we were going to the same place. This started a friendship that has lasted from 1970 to this day.

Millie is my best friend. Even though many miles would separate us over the years we stayed in contact. About 14 years or so ago she and her husband ended up moving here with his job. I was so excited to have Millie close, we live six miles apart. We do many things together and are like sisters. I would do anything in the world for Millie and I know she feels the same.

I met my best friend 26 years ago, when we were in the 7th grade.

I have 2 best friends in CA. Pat and I have been friends since 1978 when I started working at the student health center at a university. She is a nurse practitioner and her son was almost one and my son was almost two when we met. We talk about once a week and sometimes e-mail and I usually stay 2 or 3 nights with them when I go to CA.
Judy is my other best friend in CA. She and I met around 1982 or so at a singles event. We used to have so much fun with that group doing bike rides, camp outs, parties, etc. She was divorced when I met her and has stayed single so she has been more available to travel with me than Pat is. Pat has a DH and 3 grown kids and 6 grands so she has more family responsibility.
Helen, who lives in my town now, became a good friend when I injured my arm a couple of years ago. She put direct pressure on the laceration until the fire dept. arrived so now she jokes that she saved my life. She also rode in the ambulance with me to the hospital here and then to Des Moines when I was transferred there. She made two trips to St. Louis with me last year when I had arm surgery. Her DH is very understanding about her traveling. In fact, she left yesterday for 2 weeks in France with another couple from church. I am going to take a meal to her DH next week.

My BFF is Kim. When I got my divorce and had very little money, she offered to let me stay with her. We knew very little about each other. We worked for sister companies and shared a break room, which is where we met. We clicked from the moment we met. Neither one of us had a lot of money and whoever had money at the moment paid the bill that was due.

We would sit and talk for hours every night after work and never run out of things to say. And we could laugh until we cried. I got re-married and she met a guy on the internet. They moved away to Tennessee about 5 years ago and got married a year ago. We still call and talk for hours...and laugh for hours. I REALLY miss her not being here in the same town...but I understand why she moved.

My 2 best friends are my daughter and my stepmother. We hang out together a lot.

All 4 generations went to pick out DGD's prom dress. 80, 74, 55, and 17.

I have sort of lost touch with my best friend from high school, although I know she would like to keep in touch. It has just been difficult lately for me to get away. I don't have that many really close friends. One of them died on Saturday, but he had been in poor health for years. One of my favorite friends, I seldom see, but when I do, we get together and go yard saling or to the flea market. I enjoy him because he is so devoted to junk and funny. I have a friend that I rehab with and I talk to her several times a day but it is mostly about animals, picking up food, etc.

I have 4 BFF .I met Lupe when i first came to Ca in 1964,we were next door neighbors and we hit it off right away.I had 4 little kids,she had 6 girls,her first 3 were older than mine,but her last 3 were the same ages as mine.

We babysat for each other and helped each other out in all kinds of ways and still do.Neither of us drove then(back in the 60's),so when it was time to pay our bills we would exchange sitting each others kids while the other went to town to pay the gas/elec etc.

DH was still in the marine corps then,and a few times i had to go in the hospital for surgery,between her and my upstairs neighbor Barbara they took care of my kids and house and were there to help me when i got home.

Lupe and i have always lived within 10 minutes of each other.

Joy is my other BFF and we met her dh to be before we met her when we were both stationed in New Hampshire.We were transferred to ca first and then he was transferred within 6 months of us to Ca also.He also was from L.A. originally.

My 4th BFF i met at a job i had from 1970 to 1987,and we had a lot in common,as did all the other 3.We all sewed,did crafts etc.To this day we are still all bff's and we have NEVER had an argument with each other.

We've been there for each other through the good and the bad times and everything in between.

Lupe,Joy and Norma all live within 10 minutes of me,barbara live a little over an hour away.We all talk,do lunch,see each other very often and they were my ROCKS when i went thru cancer and chemo last year.Thank God everyday for each of them.

My best friends are the girls I have known since childhood. Vicki, Kathy, Mary, Marilyn and Donna.

Mary lived next door, Vicki and Kathy down the block, Marilyn around the corner and Donna I met the first day of Grade 9. She was the only one in the class who had a dress on. LOL

I am close to all of them but they aren't necessarily close with each other. Vicki and I are close, Kathy and I are close, Marilyn and Mary are close, Kathy is Godmother to Mary's oldest. Marilyn has been close to each of us at different times but we all get along and a few times a year Mary has all of us over and sometimes Mary will only have Vicki, Kathy and I over. I spend most of my time with Vicki, Kathy and Donna.

Vicki was with me at my Mom's bedside when she passed away and held my Mom's hand. Kathy's Mom just passed away a few weeks ago and I was really close to Kathy's Mom. Kathy's Dad called me his "adopted daughter" after my own Dad passed away. Kathy would say I was closer to her Dad than she was. He liked to tell stories and I liked to listen. LOL Mary's Mom is 91 years old and when she sold her house next door I missed her terribly. She is still going strong and I talked with her last week at Kathy's Mom's funeral.

Donna knows Kathy from Grade school and knows Vicki through me. They are just acquaintances and know each other through me. Vicki's Mom used to be friends with my oldest sister since they grew up on the same street so Vicki's Mom has a picture of me and Vicki when we were just babies. All the girls are married except Kathy and I and still have good marriages. Marilyn met her husband Doug when we were in highschool and "had" to get married. LOL Those were some trying times. Mary's husband Mark was the boy around the corner - our paperboy and we always knew Mary and Mark would end up together since we were kids. Mary was Bucky and Mark was Duck. LOL Kathy was Moo, I was Higgy, Vicki was Druke and Marilyn was Armie. Kathy's Mom called me Higgy right up until the week she died.

One day I will post pictures of us now that I have this laptop and once I get a scanner. We had such a good time growing up together and they will be my best friends 'til the day I die.

As a guy I've never had any really close male friends. I don't hunt, fish or hang out at the bars so perhaps that's where I miss out. As a teenager I did some small game hunting but, by my early 20's I came to the conclusion that if I was going to wander through the woods for a day I'd much rather carry a camera than a gun.

One of my closest friends ever I met as a client. I did some landscaping for her and we clicked immediately. We both had a well developed sense of humor and would have each other laughing so hard we could barely stand up. She was about 18 years older than me and we shared a love of gardening. She had lost a younger brother and always told me that my personality reminded her of him. When my first wife died of cancer she was there to help and comfort me. The whole time I knew her she was fighting lupus. She lost that battle a few years ago. Rest in peace, Bev.

I have friends I have had for over 60 years. However, I don't think it is the amount of time you have had a friend, but how good a friend they are to you. Do they listen to your complaints, do they advise, to they confide in you and do you keep their secrets. Even though I have never met some of you on the KT, I feel like you are truly good friends. I am thankful for all my friends.

I'm jealous of all of you! I've never had a true BF. I think it's cause I was BURNED by girls in grade school; made it hard for me to trust. I've got 3 really good friends, but I wouldn't call them BFs. Thank goodness I like my dh so much!! LOL

Not counting Harry, I have a few really good friends. I used to have a lot more but cancer has reared its ugly head more than it should have for some very dear people. My friend Ginny and I met when we were 19 and have had many adventures and misadventures together. We shared an apartment with two other girls when we were young, then two of them got married and it was just Ginny and me. Then we both got married. We've lost and found each other over the years because we both moved around, but somehow we always end up back in touch. It's very weird because once we'd been out of touch for about 8 years when I heard her voice calling my name at Ruth Eckard Hall in Clearwater. What are the chances we would both be there the same night. (And recognize each other.)

The only person I can call my BFF is my sister, Di. We tell each other everything, share happy times and sad and truly love each other. She makes me laugh and makes me mad sometimes and I do the same for her. I wish she lived next door!

My Best Friend, Isabell, has been my best friend since we were 5 and walked to kindergarten together. That was 50 years ago. She has always been my BF, confidant, my touchstone. We've never, in 50 years, had a cross word between us. I think that is because we are so very different in temperment. She is very quiet, wouldn't say s**t if she had a mouth full of it, whereas I am more flamboyant. In our youth her quiet gentleness helped keep me on an even keel, and I helped her step out side of herself once in a while. With age she has become a little more forceful and I have quieted down a wee bit.

We've always been there for each other, no matter what. We've gone through boyfriends, husbands and children together. Through some rough times and serious life threatening illness. Our respective children consider the other one their aunt, yet ocassionally comment about how our relationship is unique and "why can't we find friends like you two?"

Isabell has been fighting for her life for a few years and I've heard the words from the doctor on more than one ocassion that he didn't think she would pull out 'this time'. But she has, she is the strongest person I know. I pray for her everyday.

Somebody once told me that friendships are like gardens - you have to take care of them if you want them to last. I have a couple of best friends - the friendships have lasted 45 years and 35 years and they grow more precious with each passing year. I find that as I have gotten older its more difficult to make lasting friendships. There is something about sharing a history that creates a feeling of "coming home" whenever we get together. We don't have to explain ourselves - we seem to know instinctively what the other is trying to say. I have to say though, my very best friend is my Mother. I'm so blessed that she is still a part of my life. Amen to good friends.

One of my best friends used to babysit my kids who are 31 and 24 now. My other best friend I met 11 years ago when I moved down here to SD. My sister who is 2 years older than me is another one and my mom who passed away 2 years ago was another one.

I miss you, Mom. I miss you, Vivian. I miss you, Hazel. Even though you've each passed away, I still gather strength from our time together. . . Love never dies.
