furring strips attached to concrete block, moisture barrier betwe

Hi folks,

For my tub/shower enclosure I am installing ceramic tile on thinset, on cement board, on a moisture barrier, over the framing.

Part of this "framing" consists of furring strips on a concrete block exterior wall, faced on the exterior with brick. No insulation, and no room for much. (3/4" maybe?)

I think this system will keep most of the moisture from the tub/shower from relocating in the framing, but I believe any moisture coming in from the exterior of the house may compromise the furring strips. So I thought to install a moisture barrier between the furring strips and the exterior concrete wall. But then I thought that this could create some kind of undesirable moisture pocket.

What would you do? Just install the furring strips directly to the concrete block? Or install a moisture barrier between the concrete block and the furring strips? And if so, would you install that only where the wood contacts the concrete blocks, or over the whole area?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thank you,

Paul
