Cooktop edges-- can you help me?

We are looking for an electric non-induction cooktop, but I am puzzled by how these guys should fit into a countertop.

We went to an appliance store today, and saw that there is a gap of space sort of under the edges of the cooktops. The salesguy was kind of vague about whether or not they get installed with some kind of gasket or not. (I think he just didn't know).

The only one that had sides that you can't stick your fingernails under is a Gaggenau ck494615. As it happens, the store is selling the floor model (which appears to be in excellent condition and has never been connected) for a considerable discount, since they are bringing in newer models.

Does your cooktop fit snugly? Is there some sort of extra piece that usually gets added to them.

Help?
