I suggest that you should do a lighter stain in the bathrooms that will blend in with the doors and trim. That stain will be automatically adjust to the current look around it. You can say that its part of the design. Any of the option will do but I guess this is better. That's only my opinion. This could be nictotine gathering in humidity of the bathroom, or it could be latex in the paint. Both have been proven to have this result. You can get a mop and see if it comes off with some Pinesol or sugar soap, then wait for it to fully dry, before putting on a coat of Kilz or Zinzzer mould killing primer. To stop mould growing back, you could try a full white vinegar on the mop after you have cleaned it, and before priming.

I am in the middle of a whole house reno. I wanted to paint the kitchen cabinets and the attached crown gray, but the kitchen opens to the living room, which will have white box paneling and also white crown like the rest of the house. There is a corner where the two rooms meet (a recessed bar niche between the living/kitchen. I don't love the idea of two colors of painted crown meeting up, is there a good way to do this? Or does anyone have a picture of a similar situation? I have seen stained cabs/meeting with painted and that looks ok but two different paints seems like a bad idea. I can't seem to find any photos of this situation. Kitchen is the the right, bar niche to the left with the pretty white pipe running through it, living to the far left. (Dining is through the cased opening with window) My current thought is to do the bar area cab/crown white and extend the white over the tiny bit of wall between that and the kitchen. Then the gray kitchen cabs would start on that wall to the left of the wires. Thank you!

"Well, it's not really crown, but more like a flat board to fill the gap, and a strip of cove molding along the top to make up for the uneven ceilings." This statement heads me in a different direction. There's a joint between the two cabinets now. If you are basically putting in flat fill pieces (as you would do in a modern kitchen) I would put in two pieces of wood, with the joint lined up with the cabinets, and paint each the color of the cabinet below. Since this is usually done in a modern kitchen that's the example I found and you can see below they extended the color of the cabinet below up to the ceiling. I realize you don't have a modern kitchen -- but you are proposing a modern style fill strip for the gap so here ya go:
