What is the update kb numbers & which windows version ?

If you are absolutely certain that it is from a Microsoft site you could try turning off your AV, firewall, and any real-time scanners you may have configured. I don't like the idea, but it is an option.

Or, you could try in Safe Mode.

Hi...first of all I am not a computer person. Been
having a multitude of problems with screen 'freezing'
delays and numerous times getting message that
'internet explorer is not responding'. I came to
this forum and Raven suggested updating. That's when I found
out that a program had failed twice. After I posted here,
I went back to the windows update to get the number and
that's when I found out that it's more than a dozen
KBs that failed.

I have windows 7 and I can't get the ie problem solved
unless I get the updates. Do I need a profesional person to help? Thank you for any advice!

Your second post should have been the first one to get the best help. No problem, now the picture is clearer.

Tell us what you have done, if anything, to resolve your issues.

Windows 7 is quite good at fixing itself so let's start there and have you report back what happens.
click Start
click Control panel
You should see a heading 'System and Security', click the bottom link to 'Find and fix a problem.
At the bottom of the next page is the option to 'Fix problems with Windows updates, click that. The next window says 'Next' so foloow along to have the test completed.

What program/s are you using for anti virus and anti malware?

OK....Mr, fixit made 2 changes and Microsoft also made 2
changes. Still having the same problems but not as
'intense'. The update that has failed 4 times is
KB976932. It tried to update for over an hour and only
got to 75% before failing.

The antivirus I have is VIPRE and I use MALABYTES.

Before I forget, I would like to thank you and all the
helpful members of this forum from the bottom of my heart.
I'm in my 70s and treading on a new planet.

OK young man (I'm 75) what about other updates as there have been a huge number in recent times for Windows 7. Do you have SP1 installed?

click System and Security
click System and it should show near the top of this window.

What version of Windows 7 are you using? That too will be on that page if you are unsure.

Yes I
have SP1....windows starter. Yes, many or all of the recent
changes have successfully downloaded.

BTW it's not important but I am of the female persuasion.

OK now we have a dilemma of sorts. You noted the failed update as KB976932. You have just now stated you have service pack 1 installed. Those are both one and the same thing so perhaps that is why it is failing to install.

yes that KB number is the number for windows 7 service pack one. Some people definitely did have problems installing it, it would stop installing at a certain point and never complete. If you search here there is a thread discussing service pack 1 and I posted some info about this and also some options from articles to help with that problem.

You can also right click on that update and select to not install (hide) it for now so that it will stop trying to come through it can be easily changed later
