First, what AV are you using? Try deleting all the residual components from your Tool box and then reboot, and start over again.

Magic - I am assuming you are d/l-ing AVG 8?

What type of connection do you have? I am a dialup user and I had to let it run overnight to d/l - it took hours. It is a huge d/l.

I downloaded directly from the AVG site. On the link I have included has the link to d/l from download.com or you can go down a little click on the one to d/l directly from AVG.

I do think the 7.5 version works until December? Not 100% on that though.

Yes, AVG 8 is what I am trying to download.

I have a cable connection. I have tried to download from gris something or other and from download.com.and directly from the AVG server.

I also read that when it prompts you to run or save, that you should save it to your desktop, so that is what I have been trying.

Maybe I just need to try again tonight and let it run.

Below is a download site for AVG8. I usually select 'Run' when asked, it simply saves one step and avoids you storing it on your computer. Unless you are on dialup as Iowagirl is then of course you would always save in case there was a need for a re-install in the future.

support for 7.5 has not yet expired so you can continue with it for a while yet which is a good idea since they are still ironing out the bugs in version 8. Also if you are going to go with version 8 you might want to follow the directions from the AVG faq to do so with out the added extras that have been causing so many problems for people.
According to the AVG forums and all the tech support forums AVG is continuing support for 7.5 until Dec. 2008 you will perhaps see the nag screen telling you it is ending but it is not actually ending till that date and they are considering letting it go even longer so do not rush to upgrade just yet!

I think there is something installed on my computer that is not allowing it to complete the download.It won't download any of the other anti virus programs either.

I will hold off until I run out of time then I will probably have to hire someone who knows what they are doing to figure it out.

Perhaps your computer is infected. I would be doing a few scans with my own anti malware programs and using online scans also to see what is interfering.

Aren't you supposed to turn off everthing, remove the old version, then D/L the latest version? I use "RUN" everytime I D/L something because I have a problem trying to find and run if I select "Save". Then I get mad. Grady

Make a special folder with a name like "Zipped files" or "DL's" located on your desktop to save to.

I always save them to have incase I need them.

You need to uninstall the version you have then download the new version, easy, simple done!!!!

DO NOT remove the current version then go looking for a new version. You will be exposed during that time, why take a risk?

Download the new version, remove the internet cable then remove the old and install the new. Then re-connect to the web and look for updates.
